Styled after The Greenbrier Resort & the design of Dorothy Draper, the Wallace Cottage is decorated with eclectic antiques & modern touches. The Cottage may have been a civil war soldier’s home in the late 1800s, but today, it’s fully restored to period, and is a stellar abode fit for those seeking a different stay in a different kind-of-place.

The space
Guests have full, private access to the home and property, including washer & dryer in basement, Smart TV's in all the main rooms, Dish Network, highspeed Frontier WIFI, & additional perks offered at other properties managed by Beaverdam Falls. This site is an off-site accommodation, a private home in Union, WV, a short drive from the Beaverdam Falls property in VA .

Guest access
Access includes front and back yard, off-street parking in front of the house, & visits to our nature preserve 20 minutes away from this location. Check in is contactless and self, not only for this house, but also to the nature preserve. The host is not waiting on you to arrive or leave at either location. Host is available 24/7 if you have questions or need assistance at either location. There is no guarantee that guest will meet host, although we like to do so as often as possible.

Other things to note
Let us be clear: Generally speaking, no one is waiting on you to arrive or leave when you arrive at this listing, and when you visit the Falls. Appropriate information and rules are posted, not only on Airbnb, but in the listing, and at the Falls in the Check-In Barn.

After 5 years of business we do our best to lay out in an exhaustive manner all the pertinent information, rules and expectations prior to arrival in order to avoid any and all guest issues.

If you have any questions, issues, or concerns, please address those with us directly-- before, during, but not after. We want to address and fix any misunderstandings or problems when they arise. So, if there is a cleaning issue, a mechanical one, or something you are unclear about, PLEASE JUST ASK. We are always here for you, and want your stay to be as best it can be!

*Please note in the Winter: stays as long as 15-20 days will require a $250 utility fee after booking. Stays 15-30 days require a $500 utility fee. Electricity is no longer cheap enough to include for these stay durations.

Neighborhood highlights

Close to The Greenbrier, The Homestead, Roanoke, VA & Lewisburg, WV, this home is located in a quant, little neighborhood in the small town of Union, WV.

This is an OFF-SITE Rental for Beaverdam Falls, Virginia's Premier Nature Preserve, and is located 20 minutes away from the Property, a short easy drive. This rental is NOT on the nature preserve itself. As part of your booking, all guests also have daily access to the Falls property, which includes a stellar waterfall, series of cascades, cave, hiking, & beautiful views. Swimming is also allowed.

In the Town of Union, there is also a public swimming pool that is open to all visitors.

This site offers the best of both worlds: small town life, short walks to the grocery store and modest restaurants in town--all the basics are there, but it still gives you access to our private natural preserve, which is not open to the public except through reservation.

Please note that this listing has a fence for dogs, and is in an old, historical neighborhood of other homes side-by-side.

Many of the neighbors have dogs, so you may hear occasional barking and vehicle noise. It is also a great neighborhood in which to walk your dogs, or to take a nice stroll. Everyone is very friendly, and respects the privacy of our guests.

Many people love this little town precisely because there is not much to do! It has never changed, and that is the point! This is rural country life, and all are welcome, regardless of their sexual orientation, skin color, or place of origin.

My work: French Teacher/Entrepreneur
Speaks English and French
Having worked in many areas, I have much of my work experience & time in the service industry: managing at the restaurant level, and in events, & even at wineries as well. Although I love the service industry, my passion has always been teaching. But, I love working in nature, managing natural land, & restoring cars in my spare time. Most recently, I taught French in public schools, managed online learning programs in Richmond Public Schools, & I have my BA in French & Theatre, & my MA in French Literature from UVA. Born & raised in Florida, Melbourne/Ocala are both my home towns, but the Virginia’s have my heart! After finishing my MA & teaching French as an instructor at UVA, I ventured into ecotourism, camping & property/land management for my family properties. Currently, I operate an ecotourism business at our ranch & nature preserve, Beaverdam Falls in Alleghany County, Virginia. We operate glampsites through Tentrr, Airbnb rentals, among other things, & manage other lands & homes in WV and FL. I’m fortunate to do what I love, & to be in the great outdoors. We do not discriminate, & welcome ALL!
