Minutes from Bond Street tube yet in a pretty, quiet cul-de-sac mews, this is an unusual opportunity to have your own 2-bedroom house in fashionable Marylebone village. Close to everything, yet still a peaceful retreat in the city hubbub.
Quiet, exclusive mews location only two minutes walk from the world's busiest shopping area - Oxford Street!
Exquisite 2-bedroom cottage in a quiet mews in the heart of Marylebone Village right in the absolute centre of London, less than 5 minutes walk from world-famous shops of Oxford Circus, Regent Street, Bond Street. Minutes from Bond St tube.
Virtually everyone who walks through the door of Bentinck Cottage says they love it. It is a very unusual tranquil space because it is truly less then five minutes' walk from the world's most famous shopping street and yet being in a cul de sac mews, the acoustics are such that you can't hear anything. (Quieter than the countryside!)
It is south facing with tall windows so it gets flooded with sunlight during the day. The large downstairs room is cosy and I have often hosted gatherings for over twenty people with talks for famous authors who have passed through London over the years. When I first bought the house and refurbished the place it was featured in a national Sunday newspaper. I am an author of best-selling books on healthy living so the house has a wonderful vibe and is decorated throughout with organic non-chemical eco paints. It has just been repainted with quiet neutral colours, giving it a fresh look for 2015.
In addition to being in the bustling West End and walking distance from Theatreland and Royal Parks, you will be living in Marylebone Village which is now trendier and more interesting than its famous cousin Mayfair (you will recognise all the places from the expensive end of the Monopoly Board !) Endless great restaurants, bars & pubs; interesting shops & boutiques; really good grocery stores, delicatessens. wholefoods store and a Sunday organic Farmers' market too. Foodie heaven!
BETTER THAN A HOTEL: you really have a bedroom as comfy as a hotel but with the use of a kitchen which helps keep costs down for breakfast, refreshments and meals AND you can do your own laundry which is expensive in a hotel. There is a "Pimag" energised water filtration machine so you don't have to buy bottled water. You will find the house a tranquil respite to your busy day out. There is Sky TV, bring your laptop with you and use the internet (no daily charge like a hotel) plug in your iPod and play your own music. And you have your own front door out into one of central London's quietest and quaintest mews settings.
ACCESS & LAST MINUTE BOOKINGS: The house is always left ready so I can often accommodate last minute requests. You can access the key any time of day or night via a key safe on the wall outside, my housekeeper will make sure the house is ready and that beds are made up clean and fresh with 100% cotton linen. Your housekeeping charge covers the cost of the house being returned to its clean state ready for the next arrival. I am in and out of the house myself as I travel a great deal overseas and live in a country home in Yorkshire as well.
BEDS: there is an (English) king size bed (5 ft) in the master bedroom with a magnetic mattress & pillows which supports deeper sleep & really helps to get rid of jet lag. There is a soft comforter-like cover over the mattress to make it extra soft (you can remove it if you wish). The bathroom and dressing room adjoin this room. Lots of big full length mirrors. Plus a hairdryer. The second bedroom has a single bed with another single stored underneath so you can make up a second double bed or a 3rd bed as another single in that room. Bedroom 2 has "Alice" who is a sculpture when the room is vacant and becomes a wardrobe when a guest arrives :-) There is an en-suite walk-in shower room for the 2nd bedroom.
CHECK IN & OUT times: we need at least 4 hours to get the house ready for you. However, if I don't have a back to back booking, then these can be flexible as I appreciate if you are flying in/out of London then you may want access at different times. Please check with me. We can always arrange for you to drop off luggage in the morning and check in in the afternoon
There's a very comfortable lounge, fully equipped kitchen and every kind of delicatessen you can think of just a couple of minutes walk from your stove. A whole top floor of the house for luggage storage and laundry. Lots of space. The best coffee shops 2-3 minutes from your doorstep.
Interaction with Guests
The house is yours to enjoy. The keys live in a key-safe mounted on the wall outside so you are free to arrive whenever you like. I am readily accessible by email. My London housekeeper can attend to any problems arising.
Marylebone Village is unusual … imagine, a village community in the heart of London! The best shops and cafes … this is 'North' Mayfair but more fun and friendlier. It has become quite the hottest place to be in London.
You can walk to so many of London's best sights. Bond Street tube station is just than five minutes walk. Less than a 30-minute walk to Theatreland and Covent Garden!
Please respect my home, take off your shoes .......... and enjoy it. It has been a haven of well-being for everyone who has visited or stayed there over the years.
Gina met us on our arrival and instantly made us feel welcome and at home. A perfect house for the three of us for a weekend in London. Walking distance to everywhere we needed to go and right on the doorstep of the delights ff Marylebone village. Would love to return.
Staying at 11 Bentinck Mews was a fabulous experience! The cottage was just as described, and Gina did everything to make us feel welcome (even picking up a few essentials since the grocery stores were closed due to our holiday arrival). We could walk everywhere, and could take full advantage of the amazing array of things that London has to offer.
Thanks for a warm welcome. The space is beautiful! An oasis a few minutes from Oxford Street, completely quiet and tranquil. I felt very much at home.
Great centrally located apartment, minutes from amazing restaurants and the best London shops and attractions. My family and I spent a weekend exploring London and used the apartment as our base. Very comfortable and clean.
Beautiful, tranquil space monuments from Marylebone High Street and Bond Street Station. Easy to follow instructions. Responsive, attentive and personable host.

Thank you Clair for your lovely feedback. Sorry not to actually meet you but I am pleased you all enjoyed your stay. For the benefit of my friends who don't speak Korean I have taken the liberty of having a go at translating your review via (website hidden). Here goes (I hope it is reasonably accurate): Our trip was the first time to stay in London, we had a wonderful experience where we were comfortable as if it was my own house. The host was incredibly friendly giving accurate information about the home in response to a bit of anxiety from me before travelling. Even though the house is in the centre of London I was still able to sleep deeply at night and I can stay without difficulty. Gina kindly gave answers to questions through the messages while we stayed.
Pros: Fantastic location; clean; good wifi; easy check in check out (host gave us access to the cottage before check in time and allowed us to keep our things in the entry hallway for the few hours requested after we checked out); host responsive to emails.
Cons: cottage, furnishings, bedding (particularly the pillows) all a bit tired; we weren't notified until well after check-in that the shower in the master bath was unusable due to a plumbing problem (no hot water) meaning we were left to use the hand held devise in the bath tub (less than ideal for a relaxing hot shower); after showering in the "wet room" second bath one must walk on a wet floor through puddles to use the toilet (also less than ideal); although the owners personal items were everywhere (closets, kitchen, etc.) she doesn't provide shampoo and conditioner); the only coffee maker is a press pot (not ideal if you like more than one hot cup); no dedicated closet space (i.e., the closet in the master was full of the owners things--rod and floor--with little room for our hanging items) ; the iron looked like it was from the 1950's (cloth cord)--I was afraid to use it.
Thank you for your feedback Jean. I am really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. It seemed to be one of those weekends where everything went wrong for you. Firstly, the issue with the shower was a difficult one. I was out of the country and my housekeeper discovered the shower issue so called the emergency plumber. He said the remedy involved breaking through the wall to the back of the shower and ordering a special new part (which was probably going to take much longer than your weekend break to arrive). By this stage you had already checked in and I had to make a judgement about how much disruption would be created with the repairwork while you were there (if this could even be done), versus what I felt would be the even greater inconvenience of moving you out at the weekend without organising anywhere else for you to go. If there had been only one shower I would absolutely have had to do that but because there was also a bath with shower and the second shower room I thought you might be able to cope for your 3-day stay. Again, apologies, it is very difficult when systems break down.
There were several other things that you were unhappy about so let me tackle those. I can’t think what bedding you were given that you felt it was “tired”. We have very expensive cotton duvets, and sheets, none very old. There are 4 different types of pillows, many brand new. Thank you for the suggestion about the coffee filter. I am not a coffee drinker and the kitchen is very small so there is not much space for equipment. The iron you found was a broken one that somehow got put under a bed in the loft instead of a rubbish bin and was not intended for use by anyone. We have a brand new ironing Press instead. I have since bought another iron for guests who do not want to use the Press. I do provide shampoo and shower gel, sometimes guests take this home (even though they are large size) and on that occasion my housekeeper may not have noticed that they had gone.
Lastly, Jean, about your comment “personal items were everywhere”… I am not sure how to respond. This is Airbnb where people share their homes … this is my home. In truth, I am not there very often because I have a second home and I travel so I just have a few things there. I think it can be seen in the photographs that the house is quite empty. I have very few personal effects and just a few clothes so I really don’t recognise the house you speak about. Again, I am sorry to hear that your enjoyment was spoiled, but at least the location worked for you. Thank you for taking the time to express your views. You might like to know that the house has had an end-of-year fresh coat of paint, a change of furniture, a new garden outside and the brickwork has been sand-blasted. There’s always something to do to keep up!
