A redwood-floored sun-filled, shuttered bedroom with arched windows and gabled ceiling in a unique 1860s home in Santa Cruz. My unique 'Carpenter Gothic' is one of the earliest houses built by settlers in the mid 19th. century. Both room and
adjacent bathroom (shower, toilet, washbasin) are fully remodelled and immaculately clean on the second floor of my home. The guest room is private, quiet, and
has its own entrance staircase. It also offers panoramic views of the Monterey Bay in one of Santa Cruz's oldest, safest, quietest neighborhoods. Walking distance to downtown through other historic areas. 1/2 acre of mature gardens and an
'orchidarium' surround this unique house on the hill.
The main bus line to UCSC has a stop 3 minutes' walk away; the main terminus is a 15" walk - all downhill! Nearby attractions include the Santa Cruz Mission, its park and
all the old historic downtown replete with Victorian homes a large variety of coffee shops and restaurants. The bus route goes straight up to the UCSC Main campus; the bike ride up the hill takes about 20 minutes and granny gears!
Be sure to read the price for TWO people when making a reservation!
It's $85/night for ONE; $125 for TWO.
No sharp heels or other spiky objects can touch the redwood floor
in the guest bedroom.
The cat cannot get into the guest bedroom.
The listing description is spot on! Caroline's home is beautiful, and we loved our time there. Caroline helped make our visit to Santa Cruz a wonderful experience.
Everything was great. Wonderful house & garden and great view. Didn't stay long enough to really enjoy it, though.
It was a delight to spend a night in Caroline's beautiful home-- far and away more beautiful in fact than any photo could portray. I speak for myself in saying that it felt as if we were staying in the comfortable home of a friend, to which I suspect my traveling companion would agree. Caroline is immensely interesting and knowledgeable in many areas and is a charming and helpful host.
Caroline was a wonderful host and her home was an excellent place to stay when I visited Santa Cruz. She has taken great care of her home and decorated it very nicely. She is very knowledgeable about the locale, places to eat and things to do. I found her home to be in a very nice neighborhood and convenient to the downtown area. It was easy to simply walk from home. I loved her friendly cat Claudius! He's very outspoken!
Our second stay, experiment, with AirB&B. What a pleasure it was to meet Caroline. The bedroom and bathroom were great. We will be back.
Caroline and l'Empereur were wonderful hosts. The room has exceptionnel views of Santa Cruz and the Monterrey Bay, which is warm and inviting and so incredibly quiet you can here the waves crashing at night.
I am a phonetician, speech technologist, and linguist.
Apart from my professional work, I enjoy my unique Victorian house, gardening, growing orchids, cooking and fine wines, antiques, painting, hiking, camping under the stars, international travel, and, most of all, my gorgeous Bengal cat.
This is a quiet, non-smoking, cat-loving house where dogs would have a hard time but cat-lovers will be delighted!
