About This Listing
A redwood-floored sun-filled, shuttered bedroom with arched windows and gabled ceiling in a unique 1860s home in Santa Cruz. My unique 'Carpenter Gothic' is one of the earliest houses built by settlers in the mid 19th. century. Both room and
adjacent bathroom (shower, toilet, washbasin) are fully remodelled and immaculately clean on the second floor of my home. The guest room is private, quiet, and
has its own entrance staircase. It also offers panoramic views of the Monterey Bay in one of Santa Cruz's oldest, safest, quietest neighborhoods. Walking distance to downtown through other historic areas. 1/2 acre of mature gardens and an
'orchidarium' surround this unique house on the hill.
The main bus line to UCSC has a stop 3 minutes' walk away; the main terminus is a 15" walk - all downhill! Nearby attractions include the Santa Cruz Mission, its park and
all the old historic downtown replete with Victorian homes a large variety of coffee shops and restaurants. The bus route goes straight up to the UCSC Main campus; the bike ride up the hill takes about 20 minutes and granny gears!

Caroline was always quick and thorough in responding to my questions. Best recommendations for restaurants! This experience was totally delightful in all aspects. The location is perfect - quiet, a distant view of the Bay and an easy walk to town. Caroline's home has a wonderful feel to it, enhanced by her artistic touch. The room and bath are spacious, comfortable and private. Conversation with Caroline can be as much or as little as desired - but always interesting and entertaining. This is a most desirable setting from which to explore Santa Cruz and the surrounding area.
A beautiful room full of light where I was able to study in peace and sleep profoundly. Convenient walking both to coffee shops and close to UCSC. Caroline is a wonderful hostess. The bathroom is a truly spiritual zone. Need to just get away far from the maddening crowd but still with wi if and a nearby latte?
The room was spacious and full of light with a wonderful view of the neighborhood. The bed and bath part was excellent as well. The house itself was a beauty, well decorated by the host who demonstrated a quiet and calm hospitality. Should be an excellent value for an extended stay!
A gorgeous and peaceful home on the hill! I was awestruck by the property-- from the tastefully antique-decorated interior to the lush & wonderfully fragrant outdoor landscape. Caroline was a delight to get to know in the short time we visited, and has done a wonderful job of setting up a semi-private upper-storey guest area. The neighborhood is very quiet and dark at night -- a flashlight is a good idea if planning any nighttime walks.
I had the pleasure of staying with Caroline in her lovely home for just one night recently. The home and accommodations are lovely and charming just as the pictures suggest, and Caroline was equally lovely and charming as a host. Communication with Caroline was good and we were able to work out an arrival and departure plan that worked well for both of us. I hope I have the opportunity to return and stay again with Caroline at her home.
Delightful, sunny, private quarters in a beautifully appointed house with a gorgeous view and a very welcoming & warm hostess. Her gardens are gorgeous and her cat, Claudius, occasionally surprisingly vociferous (don't worry, not at night), & very friendly. Caroline's sense of humour is droll & wry & we laughed a lot. Can't recommend her highly enough as it's geographically located within 15 minutes of downtown (walking) and 5 driving. Very kind & considerate while being simultaneously non-intrusive of your time & space. If I visit SC again, I'll be sure to check her listing first.
