Double Room in Victorian house. 2 minutes to Hackney Downs Station and under 10 minutes to Liverpool Street station. So the location is in a very central London position (Zone 2) and in the heart of the most up and coming area of London.
One stop fom Hackney Central Station is a couple of stops to Stratford, the home of the Olympics 2012.
The house has a rustic, curiosity- feel from teasures found in the many trendy fleamarket s and vintage shops in the area. Very nearby is London Fields where there is a heated outdoor swimming pool and Ridley Road Market where there are lots of ethnic food and fashions.
It is a vegetarian house, but easy-going and Bohemian, sharing it with a 25 year old young man and 45 year old, Heath, who is also an artist/ musician and two nice cats who live downstairs. We even supply ashtrays on request!
There is WIFI in the house so if it rains you can relax inside. But there's so much to do in the surrounding areas. if you like Art and Museums, therse the Museum of Childhood at nearby Bethnal Green, the lesser known, Geoffrey Museum takes you through the English Interiors through the ages and at Walthamstow you can see the home of William Morris (Arts and Crafts) .
On a Saturday or Sunday we like to go to the Boot fair (Garage sale) at a nearby School and are always happy with our bargains.
** The photo of the smallest room with a pot cupboard in it, is now being converted to a shower room/ extra bathroom. It's not quite ready yet but any day now!**
**One of our Reviewers has said the Hackney Downs station is not open on weekends - this was only prior to the Olympics.**
Heath was very welcoming when we arrived. The space was spotless and the tea and toast was very much appreciated. The easy access to transit made it an excellent one night stop over.
Had a lovely stay for three nights while we were seeing sights and friends in London. The room is lovely with a fab bookshelf and a cabinet of curiosities, Heath and Bodie were very amenable hosts. Only wish we could have got to meet them properly - we were rushing in and out the whole time!
I had a comfortable couple of nights, and everything was very clean. I found it very good value for money! Having a kitchen with all the food set out for breakfast was also great. Would have liked to spend more time with the cat..
Comfortable bright bedroom, cosy kitchen, charming hosts.
The contrast between paying three times as much to stay in a bland hotel facility staffed by people who are paid to be polite versus the opportunity to enjoy the character of somebody's household is, in my view, inestimable.
Sylvia and Heath's home felt like just that: home.
“Il buongiorno si vede dal mattino!” So, even before arriving, you get a positive impression: from the very first e mail exchanges, Sylvia was always ready to give accurate and prompt replies .
I can definitely say I had a lovely stay at Sylvia and Heath’s place! One can feel that sense of freedom necessary for a healthy living ☺, so, privacy is assured, but at the same time you can rely on a friendly availability of the hosts, which is really enjoyable. Very original furniture, absolutely charming, due to creative host Heath, is a touch of humanity and personal taste. Heath’s son really friendly and discreet. Delicious cereals help to a better start of the day. Flowers and cats a lovely plus.
My stay at Sylvia's home felt like I was at home! It was extremely cozy and the warmth hospitality from Heath more than offset the psychedelic weather in London. I also appreciated the privacy and total freedom given here (Heath is truly amazing and cool!), hence why I felt at ease here. Though not in the centre of the city (but you would never get a very spacious room there), her home was conveniently located, a very short walk from the train station, as well as the underground and bus stops (this was a blessing when you miss the last train). If you would like to explore the East side of the city, I would recommend Sylvia's place! :)
Warm welcome from Heath, friendly interesting house with a lovely atmosphere, fresh and clean nice big room, comfy bed, great shower - all you could need, and two minutes from Hackney Down station. Hope to stay there again.
Heath was kind enough to let me borrow his vintage bike to cruise around town. I had plenty of privacy since Heath lives downstairs and his son Bodie was out most of the time, but he was also very accessible if I ever needed anything. They also had cereal and yogurt and fruit in the kitchen for breakfast which was really nice. I only wish I could have made it out to see Heath play some music!
The room is big and very cosy. The whole house is clean bright and has a fascinating forniture. I booked a place at Sylvia and Heath for my mom who cannot speak much English but she has been warmly welcomed. We spent most of our time out but the landlord have been very kind! They provided my mom with all kind of appliances and objects she might have needed. They showed interest and complete avaiability in sharing a tea and in giving all necessary information about the area and London in general. I defenitely reccomend this place!
As before on the beginning of my trip, my stay here was enjoyable, comfortable, and close to all the amenities one would desire on a trip to London. I enjoyed my time, and the ease of communication with Sylvia and Heath.
