About This Listing
Beautiful, quiet room with queen sized bed and view of giant redwood trees, in sunny house with huge fenced yard, organic gardens and plentiful fruit trees (from which you are invited to help yourself!) This home is great for long staying guests.
This house is set amidst a garden full of fruit trees, organic veggies and flowers, and several giant redwoods. It is situated in the very walkable and friendly Santa Rosa Junior College neighborhood, with numerous restaurants and coffee shops in walking distance, and is not too far from the ocean and redwood forests. There is a fully equipped spacious kitchen, (with a water filter) ready for you to use, and there are a variety of places inside and outside the house to enjoy your meal or coffee/tea. We are close to public transit and many bike trails, and you are welcome to park your bicycle in the bicycle shed (recycled from an old barn) and/or your car in the street in front of the house.
A lot of care has been put into creating a safe, healthy and peaceful home that I hope you will enjoy. There are hardwood floors made from sustainably harvested wood, and the walls are painted with natural, homemade clay paints.
While here, you are welcome to relax in the sun by the veggie and flower garden, or under the shade of the redwood or fruit trees, and enjoy the bounty of the garden. Sleep soundly in a room with a view of a giant redwood tree.
If you are planning on biking, a neighbor/friend will give a 10% discount on bike rentals to my guests. His company is called Bike Partners.
p.s. please check out the house "rules" section regarding synthetic/chemical fragrances before booking. Thanks!
Guests have access to almost the entire house, front yard, back yard, vegetable and herb gardens, and all of the fruit trees.
Interaction with Guests
When home, I am often available to answer questions and/or chat. I am also very respectful of people's privacy and recognize that some people enjoy a quiet environment during their travels. When I am not home (which happens a lot, as I am pretty busy), guests are welcome to call me with any needs or questions. Additionally, my next door neighbors love to meet my guests, and help them out with any additional suggestions of what to do in the area, or anything else.
My neighborhood is amazing. So many beautiful and unique front yards, in a very walkable, friendly community.
We have convenient public transit. And a person can walk to downtown, and/or to nearby cafes restaurants and markets. This area is extraordinarily bike able.
Other Things to Note
House is air-conditioned naturally by huge redwood trees towering above it. Additionally, there are powerful ceiling fans in the guest room and kitchen.
In general, in order to allow for turn over of the room, check in time is anytime after 3:00 p.m. , and check out time is 12:00. But if this poses a problem, just let me know as we may be able to work something out.
You are welcome to come in and out of the house at whatever hours you want.
This is a "leave your shoes at the door" home, but if this poses a hardship, it's O.K. to just clean you shoes off really well at the door. Slippers for inside are recommended (I have extra clean ones guests can borrow! :)
Due to a sensitivity to synthetic fragrances, it would be greatly appreciated if guests could refrain from applying artificially scented colognes, after shaves, hair sprays, and perfumes (outside the house, on the way out for the day or evening, is O.K.). Essential oils and other naturally derived scents are fine. Also, I occasionally burn sage in the house. If you are uncomfortable with that, just let me know, and I will refrain from burning sage when you are here. Shampoo, body soap, and shaving cream are all provided. I do have essential oils of lavender and almond in many of the soaps. Thanks!
This was my first Air BnB booking in a really long time and I'm glad it was with Julie. I found her place quite easily, just looked for the giant redwood trees. I met up with Julie upon arrival and she showed me around the place and offered helpful advice for getting around towards downtown and other places.
The house and bedroom were very clean, neat and simple. The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet and I felt totally safe walking the 12-15 minutes to downtown. This is an ideal location for exploring Santa Rosa and the surrounding areas.
Julie is a gracious host and I would definitely return on another trip to Santa Rosa.
I had a wonderful stay at Julie's Oasis. It truly was for me a garden oasis for me. I had to prepare a presentation and couldn't have picked a more pleasant spot. The home is very clean, light and peaceful and Julie makes you feel totally welcome and comfortable. Walking around the tree-lined streets and to the Historic Graveyard in the neighborhood also were highlights of this trip. Julie is a very creative, fun, and generous person, you will be fortunate to meet her.
This is a really friendly and quiet neighborhood. Julie was a fantastic host! Especially when she had little notes at noticeable spots to guide me through all the small things. She also had places/good restaurants around the area written down in a book which was very helpful. Not forgetting, she has an awesome yard and a place to put my bike at! Julie is also a really nice person to talk with. Would definitely come back if I have the chance to!
I was extremely comfortable staying with Julie. There was a welcome sign on the door, post-its with hints like wi-fi passwords...had no hesitancy about making myself at home. I stayed with Julie for two weeks during an internship for grad school and never had any problems. She's extremely friendly and open without being overbearing. The area feels safe; I walked and biked around constantly with no issues. It's right near the community college so pedestrians are normal. There are restaurants and groceries within a few blocks, as well as the downtown shopping/eats a longer walk away, too. The Community Market Julie recommended in her guidebook was my favorite- yummy local and organic food. Julie let me rent her bike for way way way cheaper than bike rental places in town, which really helped with getting to work. Hint: the community college's track a few min walk away is open to the public, so I ran laps there and ran stadium stairs as well. I also stopped into the local YMCA, which had great facilities. Overall, I would not hesitate to stay with Julie in Santa Rosa again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed place to crash.
Julie is a kind, generous spirit. As soon as I arrived, there was hot tea with ginger, cinnamon and cloves on the stove. There was a gorgeous welcome card hanging from the door. And, on the day of my interview she left me a "good luck" note.
She has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and can give you good insight into the community. Her home is welcoming and clean. The space is quiet and has a beautiful garden.
The only suggestion I have is to dress warmly if you go in the winter months! I always underestimate the weather in northern CA.
Julie is an amazing hostess.. One of the nicest people I've met in some time, very accommodating. . The room is great, super comfy... Great space. Thanks Julie
It was my first experience with Air B&B. I felt safe and better once I met Julie. Very sweet and I felt comfortable.

About the Host, Julie
I enjoy living simply and close to nature. I love music, dance and all of the expressive arts, and am fortunate to get to work with elders, children and animals. A while back, I started an inter-generational bilingual community organization that empowers kids to reclaim their neighborhoods, with a focus on ecology, the creative arts, and community service. It's called Growing a Village/Cultivando un Pueblo. I have a daily meditation practice, enjoy a balance of solitude and community in my life, and am currently learning to swing dance with my partner John.
Fun, funky , and cozy atmosphere. I hear the coffee is good too!
Great coffee shop with nice patio. Good place to hang out and/or get work done. Staffed by teens in recovery/rehab program.
If you like pizza, this is the place!
If you want quick and cheap Chinese fast food, you can go here. It's the opposite of fine dining, but it sometimes hits the spot.
Super cheap Indian fast food with homemade yummy naan. Good if you're in a hurry, and your stomachecan handle some grease.
This inexpensive buffet style international vegetarian restaurant has a very relaxing environment and good, healthy food.
Best natural food store around...lots of organics, bulk foods, and the workers are great
Very good Chinese food!
If you really like dim sum, it might be worth it to travel another half a mile to this spot
