The Encounter Earthship is one of the latest Model Earthship built by Earthship Biotecture and designed by Michael Reynolds. It ENCOUNTERS the phenomena of the planet creating an Earthship that is a state-of-the-art off-grid eco-friendly building with all the commodities of a conventional house and more. It is located in the Greater World, one of the world's only fully sustainable communities in Taos, NM. Come and see what is possible in the world of sustainability.

The space
The Encounter Earthship is the newest official Earthship making it one of the most evolved and comfortable off-grid house on the planet.

It grows plenty of fruit and vegetables, it catches and stores rainwater and uses the energy of the sun to power your wifi and provide a beautiful hot shower when needed.

It uses thermal mass to keep cool in summer and provide toasty warm comfort in winter and 40% of it is constructed using recycled materials (tires, cans, bottles).

The Encounter Earthship is filled with light from its glass front, which also provides the most wonderful views both day time and night time (no light pollution here!).

This is a great opportunity to stay in the logical houses of the future, named not without reason, one of Lonely Planet's top 10 eco stays for 2014.

Come and experience direct living in a house that does not damage the ecosystem by encountering the natural phenomena of the planet.

Where you’ll be

El Prado, New Mexico, United States

The Greater World Community is located 20 minutes from Taos. It is located about 6800 ft above sea level in a rural high desert region surrounded by mountains, providing a unique natural environment and views.

Temperatures in Taos can be extreme, hot in summer and cold in winter, but even in the coldest winter months the sun shines making it possible to be outside and enjoy the beautiful extensive clear sky and close-by attractions.

THINGS TO DO:
The Earthship is located a 5 minute drive from the world heritage site Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, featured in many movies and awarded as Most Beautiful Steel Bridge in the United States.

There are two spectacular natural hot springs in the vicinity and Ojo Caliente, a hot springs resort, is a 30 minute drive away and has special low rates in the evenings (Monday to Thursday).

Taos Ski Valley is only a 20 minute drive away, offering some of the finest ski slopes in Winter and incredible hiking trails in Spring and Summer.

Taos itself is a beautiful bohemian town with much to offer: cafes, boutiques, art galleries and many dining opportunities make a stroll through the downtown area and the Taos Plaza an enjoyable activity for visitors of any age.

FOOD AND DINING:
Please note that there are no restaurants, restaurant delivery or stores located in the Community itself.

The Taos Mesa Brewing Company is the closest place to eat, about 5 miles East of us on HWY 64 heading towards the town of Taos and offers craft beers, great food and live music on most nights.

Taos itself (15-20 minutes driving) offers many dining possibilities. Anything from Cid's Food Market (organic whole foods groceries) to authentic Mexican and New Mexican cuisine (Guadalajara, La Cueva, Toribio's...) to specialized and fine dining restaurants (Martyr's Steak House, The Love Apple, Taos Inn...), there is something for every taste.
