Relaxing cozy rustic cabin in the Midcoast.

Guests stay in private 350 sq ft cabin space within a restored chicken barn overlooking fields and hills. This space is quiet, clean, peaceful, cozy and rustic, perfect for a retreat. The property has extensive gardens, beautiful views of forested hills, and you'll have uninterrupted views of the night sky. The cabin has electricity, oven/range, a sink, and a composting toilet just outside, and gravity fed drinking water. Heated by a wood stove!

The space
The chicken barn studio apartment is the back third of a restored chicken barn, a place where thousands of birds once lived. This clean, open space has a bed, table and chairs, rocking chairs, counter with sink, and is exclusively heated by a wood stove. Windows overlook a small orchard, an old farm pond, and hay fields. The space has stunning morning light. The chicken barn is 70 yards down a grassy hill from the main house and parking area, and guests must be comfortable carrying their belongings up and down the hill. You can spend the whole time watching wildlife from the rocking chair, or creating art or music.

Kitchen amenities include a stove/range, mini-fridge, microwave, electric kettle and water is provided, along with basic kitchen supplies and a draining sink. A tidy outhouse is available in the entryway to the chicken barn. There is no shower.

We run Cedar Grove Sauna at the farm, a wood-fired sauna rental. Guests can book a session at cedargrovesauna.com

You may not have cell service here, but service is available within a 10 minute drive. Also within a 10 minute drive are the Lost Kitchen restaurant and Freedom Pond.

There is a dog named Maple living on the farm.

I love being outside, in the woods or out on the water. Our place in Montville is very peaceful and I'm happy to share the space with guests and show them around! We grow most of our own food and medicine here, there's a lot to see!

I am a canoe guide, and also manage Cedar Grove Sauna, a wood-fired sauna rental.
