About this listing
Step back in time to the 1920's
Take in the beautiful views of the valley.
And enjoy the peace and quiet.
My name is Dusty, My wife and I run a vacation rental here in Southern California. We call it the "waitinghouse" It has always felt like the house was just waiting for visitors.
Our house sits at the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains. Which happens to have some of the best foot launched flying in the world. I have been flying both hang gliders and paragliders for the past 12 years. Our goal has been to provide a quite, clean, safe, affordable place to stay for visiting pilots and their families. And at this time we would like to open this invitation to anyone visiting So Calif.
Built in 1918 as part of the historic Devore ranch. We lovingly restored it back in 2007.
Back in 2010 We had the honor of having International bestselling author of CLEOPATRA'S DAUGHTER Michelle Moran stay at our cozy home in Devore.
To date she has written: NEFERTITI, THE HERETIC QUEEN, CLEOPATRA'S DAUGHTER, MADAME TUSSAUD, and THE SECOND EMPRESS.
Madame Tussaud has been optioned for a TV mini-series and was written in the Devore waitinghouse. She was even so kind as to thank us in the Acknowledgments page in the back of the book.
This home is a writers dream; with its quiet peaceful beauty we are sure you will have great success with any project you bring to the Waitinghouse.
Our beautiful home sits on 1.1 acres surrounded by a dozen olive trees that over 100 years old. There is a seasonal stream on the property. With luck it may be running during your visit.
At 900 square feet this home is just roomy enough to function well and still holds onto its cozy yesteryear character.
The waitinghouse comes beautifully furnished with many vintage and period pieces, this really brings back the look and feel of a home from the 1920's. And the exterior views of the mountains and valley are priceless.

A special place with special owners. A perfect place to relax, contemplate, recharge.
It is rare today to find a place like this. It is rarer still to find someone who would go to the
effort that Kathy and Dusty have to restore this home and then openly share it with others.
Mark from B.C.
Please clean any dish or cooking utensils you have used before leaving.
Failure to do so will result in a deduction from your security deposit.
You can put the dishes away (very kind) or they can be left in the dry rack and I will put them away.
This is a very quiet neighborhood. Please be respectful of this peaceful serene setting.
Please feel free to use our trash dumpster at the edge of the driveway.
I will take out any remaining trash left from your stay.
Please leave used beds unmade so I know which linins to wash.
If you want to throw them in the washer and start it on your way out that would be very kind ( it's your choice )
Smoking is allowed on the porch only. You will find an ash tray there under the table.
Please don't bring the trash from smoking into the house. Dispose of ashes and butts in the dumpster outside.
Check that the windows are closed and the doors are locked when you leave.
Secluded, private property with a view. Definitely off the beaten path and as described!
The house was the perfect spot for a small family reunion. We especially enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the morning. Even though we only stayed a couple of days, it still felt like a retreat.
Dusty provided a code to make checkin quite easy. The space is just as it looks in the pictures...simple and quiet and perfect for a time away. Dusty was incredibly helpful when we left an envelope with cash behind...very grateful for his hospitality and for his willingness to go out of his way on our behalf.
The "Waiting House" proved absolutely perfect for a restful week after the chaos of our wedding. The home is almost one hundred years old. Amidst some lovely antique details, it's clear that Kathy and Dusty spent careful effort restoring the house. It's hard to beat the warm peace of a morning breakfast in the dining room as the rising sun shines through the large windows. The ranch house brought us to a simpler era of grandma's chocolate cake, living off the land, snuggling up in warm blankets, and restful lunches on the front porch. Between their gracious welcome basket and easy check-in, Kathy and Dusty were excellent hosts!
It was a relaxing trip, Dusty's house sits in a beautiful highland area, overlooking a nice relatively flat land. My family had quiet time there, all amenities are good. The portable heaters work but we have to move them around based on where we hang out. When the weather is too cold I wish we can have an AC. But we understand it's an old cute house.
The house was very comfy and clean. The kitchen had a nice amount of pots and pans for cooking and the weber grill is nice and big! We had a great and relaxing time here and would come again.
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
