My name is Dusty, My wife and I run a vacation rental here in Southern California. We call it the "waitinghouse" It has always felt like the house was just waiting for visitors.
Our house sits at the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains. Which happens to have some of the best foot launched flying in the world. I have been flying both hang gliders and paragliders for the past 12 years. Our goal has been to provide a quite, clean, safe, affordable place to stay for visiting pilots and their families. And at this time we would like to open this invitation to anyone visiting So Calif.
Built in 1918 as part of the historic Devore ranch. We lovingly restored it back in 2007.
Back in 2010 We had the honor of having International bestselling author of CLEOPATRA'S DAUGHTER Michelle Moran stay at our cozy home in Devore.
To date she has written: NEFERTITI, THE HERETIC QUEEN, CLEOPATRA'S DAUGHTER, MADAME TUSSAUD, and THE SECOND EMPRESS.
Madame Tussaud has been optioned for a TV mini-series and was written in the Devore waitinghouse. She was even so kind as to thank us in the Acknowledgments page in the back of the book.
This home is a writers dream; with its quiet peaceful beauty we are sure you will have great success with any project you bring to the Waitinghouse.
Our beautiful home sits on 1.1 acres surrounded by a dozen olive trees that over 100 years old. There is a seasonal stream on the property. With luck it may be running during your visit.
At 900 square feet this home is just roomy enough to function well and still holds onto its cozy yesteryear character.
The waitinghouse comes beautifully furnished with many vintage and period pieces, this really brings back the look and feel of a home from the 1920's. And the exterior views of the mountains and valley are priceless.
3 Bedrooms, Kitchen, Dining room, Living room, 1 full Bath
(with original cast iron claw foot tub)
1 Queen size bed, 1 Full size bed, 1 twin size bed, 1 futon (living room), air mattress if needed

The water supplied to the house by the Devore Water Co is some of the best tasting on the planet, the source is in the mountains you see looking out the kitchen window.
As far as vacation travel this house perfect. Our house is close to two major freeways, But is far enough away that it is peaceful, safe and quiet. It is less than a 1 hour drive time from the beach, mountains, desert, Los Angles, Palm Springs, Etc. Not to mention it's just minutes north of the California Speedway also known as Auto Club Speedway. and just down the street is San Manuel Amphitheater formerly Glen Helen Pavilion.
We try hard to keep it ready at all times for those visiting on a short notice.
Drop by some time the house will be waiting for you.

A special place with special owners. A perfect place to relax, contemplate, recharge.
It is rare today to find a place like this. It is rarer still to find someone who would go to the
effort that Kathy and Dusty have to restore this home and then openly share it with others.
Mark from B.C.
Dusty and Kathy were very responsive to questions and changes. Devore getaway is an adorable little "cottage", lovingly restored by it's owners. It was fun to look at the restoration pictures and read a bit about the history of the home.
We were there to visit colleges, which worked out perfectly. It is close to Cal Tech and the Claremont colleges, and was a great jumping off point. We were grateful to get away from the traffic and feel of urbanity after busy days, and be nestled above it all in a relatively quiet environment. The views were lovely, especially at night.
This is a genuine getaway. My fiancé and I were looking for some r&r before our upcoming wedding and we absolutely found the right place. Dusty is easy to work with and a great communicator. You can add us to the list of people that hope to return to "The Waiting House'" in the future.
We did a self check in and check out so we did not get to meet Dusty, sadly. The house was lovely, with historical charm and beautiful views. Excellent experience and we would definitely rent this place again.
This getaway was tranquil, secluded, and peaceful. The waiting house is the perfect place for a mini vacation and I would definitely stay again! Dusty and Kathy were very communicative and responded to any questions we had asap.
Communication with Dusty was exceptional. The listing was what was expected. We had a lovely time. The bottle of wine was a great touch especially after a long day of traveling. I was there for less than 24 hours and would love to return for at least a few days because it was very peaceful and relaxing. The entire experience was positive. Highly recommend! I will return hopefully in the near future for another peaceful getaway.
This is...one special house. I want to buy this house...but being that it's not for sale, I can only highly recommend a visit to this house. It's location is perfect for a night or two passing through to somewhere else, or a very private and relaxing retreat for a longer stay. I noticed in the guest book that people were coming from all over the country and the world. It reminded me of the old homesteads in the Central Valley that my cousins and grandma used to live in. I can't wait to bring my wife and daughter out there. Super old, yet functional, and Dusty was a great and accommodating host. The location is a magical power spot overlooking the valley below and the mountains in the opposite direction. I loved stepping back into early Californio....You won't be disappointed with the house or Dusty!
Awesome place! Worked perfectly and was nice and quiet. Exactly what we needed for a nice vacation.
Dusty is a wonderful host, and his house is a gem. We had once again a wonderful time at the Waiting House and we will come back!
Had a nice little songwriting getaway there. Really charming place with a functional kitchen and nice views.
We came to the Waiting House to escape LA for a weekend. It is the most adorable little house and it's so obviously well-cared for. I absolutely loved sitting out on the porch and eating breakfast. The view is spectacular, and If it weren't for the faint hum of the 15 freeway, I would have probably thought that I had traveled back in time to the early 1900s. Everything in the house functioned well and we were able to cook some elaborate meals in the kitchen. We also went up into the nearby San Bernardino Forest to hike the "Heart Rock Trail" - something that I would highly recommend to all other guests. We hope to come back again soon!
