Step back in time to the 1920's
Take in the beautiful views of the valley.
And enjoy the peace and quiet.
My name is Dusty, My wife and I run a vacation rental here in Southern California. We call it the "waitinghouse" It has always felt like the house was just waiting for visitors.
Our house sits at the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains. Which happens to have some of the best foot launched flying in the world. I have been flying both hang gliders and paragliders for the past 12 years. Our goal has been to provide a quite, clean, safe, affordable place to stay for visiting pilots and their families. And at this time we would like to open this invitation to anyone visiting So Calif.
Built in 1918 as part of the historic Devore ranch. We lovingly restored it back in 2007.
Back in 2010 We had the honor of having International bestselling author of CLEOPATRA'S DAUGHTER Michelle Moran stay at our cozy home in Devore.
To date she has written: NEFERTITI, THE HERETIC QUEEN, CLEOPATRA'S DAUGHTER, MADAME TUSSAUD, and THE SECOND EMPRESS.
Madame Tussaud has been optioned for a TV mini-series and was written in the Devore waitinghouse. She was even so kind as to thank us in the Acknowledgments page in the back of the book.
This home is a writers dream; with its quiet peaceful beauty we are sure you will have great success with any project you bring to the Waitinghouse.
Our beautiful home sits on 1.1 acres surrounded by a dozen olive trees that over 100 years old. There is a seasonal stream on the property. With luck it may be running during your visit.
At 900 square feet this home is just roomy enough to function well and still holds onto its cozy yesteryear character.
The waitinghouse comes beautifully furnished with many vintage and period pieces, this really brings back the look and feel of a home from the 1920's. And the exterior views of the mountains and valley are priceless.

The water supplied to the house by the Devore Water Co is some of the best tasting on the planet, the source is in the mountains you see looking out the kitchen window.
As far as vacation travel this house perfect. Our house is close to two major freeways, But is far enough away that it is peaceful, safe and quiet. It is less than a 1 hour drive time from the beach, mountains, desert, Los Angles, Palm Springs, Etc. Not to mention it's just minutes north of the California Speedway also known as Auto Club Speedway. and just down the street is San Manuel Amphitheater formerly Glen Helen Pavilion.
We try hard to keep it ready at all times for those visiting on a short notice.
Drop by some time the house will be waiting for you.

A special place with special owners. A perfect place to relax, contemplate, recharge.
It is rare today to find a place like this. It is rarer still to find someone who would go to the
effort that Kathy and Dusty have to restore this home and then openly share it with others.
Mark from B.C.
Please clean any dish or cooking utensils you have used before leaving.
Failure to do so will result in a deduction from your security deposit.
You can put the dishes away (very kind) or they can be left in the dry rack and I will put them away.
This is a very quiet neighborhood. Please be respectful of this peaceful serene setting.
Please feel free to use our trash dumpster at the edge of the driveway.
I will take out any remaining trash left from your stay.
Please leave used beds unmade so I know which linins to wash.
If you want to throw them in the washer and start it on your way out that would be very kind ( it's your choice )
Smoking is allowed on the porch only. You will find an ash tray there under the table.
Please don't bring the trash from smoking into the house. Dispose of ashes and butts in the dumpster outside.
Check that the windows are closed and the doors are locked when you leave.
We immediately felt at home here, as if the Waiting House welcomed us. We specially liked that the house is situated in rural surroundings, while still being close to the cities east of LA. I repeat what others have written before us: the house is charming, has all you need and everything works fine. A top experience!
We just got back from spending a couple of days at this lovely location. We had such a wonderful time. The house is even cuter and quainter than the photos made it look, and it has lots of details that made it really charming. Dusty was very accommodating and helped everything go smoothly, even though it was my first time making a booking over airbnb. It was definitely a great experience! We especially enjoyed exploring outdoors around the property, and learning about the local area history in some of the books provided. The tub attracted our attention right away, but I worried that older houses like this might lack hot enough water for baths. Definitely not a problem: it was warm and luxurious. :)
I wish there were more houses like this around still!
This house has soul. It's not a frou frou, Victorian B&B, but a simple and almost Spartan, early-20th-century home for blue-collar ranchers. The view is reminiscent of Italy or Taos, and the setting feels rural even with an omnipresent freeway hum during my visit (typical for Southern California).
The hosts are warm and friendly, with excellent communication before, during, and after the visit. They even left a bottle of wine, which made for perfect horizon-watching breaks on the ample front porch.
The dining room is an excellent spot in which to write, although the glare is strong early in the morning and the room heats up pretty quickly. I had no problem cooling it off by opening the windows (in January).
No complaints at all.
A++! Devore Getaway is fantastic. Since others have described the house etc. in great detail, I'll just say that Dusty was extremely helpful, as this was our first AirBnB experience. Setting the bar high!
The place was lovely, well tended, and full of nuance and charm. Dusty was a a consummate host and everything went beautifully. Another wonderful AirBnB experience!
The place was great. I thought it would be tight with our family of four but it was just enough room and nicely appointed. The period details in the house are a nice touch. It was very comfortable. The check in and check out was simple and painless.
