Ted and his wife were very nice. Helped to find our way and had some recommendations. Space is a little dated but you get everything you need including your own nice deck with seating, a little BBQ and view of the lake.
The cottage was very cozy and comfortable, just as we expected. Ted and Cynthia lived next door and were extremely helpful and attentive. They recommended some good hiking spots, including Minnewaska State Park. We hiked the Upper Awosting trail to Lake Awosting and also the Castle Point trail. Castle Point has terrific views and Lake Awosting is clear and sparkling. We made a fire in the fire pit next to our cottage every evening. Ted and Cynthia provided the firewood, and Cynthia even offered to give us s'more fixings! I can't stress how generous Ted and Cynthia were and how honestly they seemed to want us to have a good time. We borrowed bikes from them the day we didn't go to Lake Minnewaska and biked around the country roads near them, where there's very little traffic and green spaces all around. It was finally warm enough to swim on our last day there and we jumped in the lake on Ted and Cynthia's property. If you're thinking of staying with Ted and Cynthia, we'd definitely recommend it. Bring your groceries from the city because their house is pretty remote and there aren't many shops in the nearby town--you don't want to spend your trip driving to the supermarket. The cottage is pretty basic, but it's full of sunlight and has a view of the lake. It's a nice spot to read and look at the views. The kitchen area has a toaster, toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot, and hot plates for cooking. We ate dinner outside on the little porch attached to the cottage each night and it was so nice to enjoy the quiet and fresh air while eating.
Had a wonderful stay at Ted Arenson's cozy cottage. It had everything I needed...small kitchen, clean bath, fresh towels, a place to build a small fire outside, some home made cookies:)
I got in kind of late, and left the next morning, so did not have a chance to catch up with him, but still felt taken care of.
I would definitely return.
I have to admit, when I first arrived, I was a bit disappointed. However, once I settled in, the small things were overshadowed with the peaceful surroundings, the lake, the rail trail. Even though the cottage is right next to their house, I still felt that I had my privacy. The area up the road has a beautiful river as well! I made some suggestions to the owners so I hope the next persons stay is perfect! I recommend it, however, don't have too high expectations. If they didn't do anything else but lower the price a bit, I think it would be a great deal and peaceful retreat from a busy life! So many beautiful birds!!
I really enjoyed my stay in this lovely cottage. It was just as described, a beautiful surrounding a very quite place, clean, nice and just what we were looking for. The added surprise was the wonderful swim in the pool and meeting Cinthia, the owner of this manic place. I felt as if I always knew her as she shared her interests with us. What an interesting, warm smart person she is! I hope to get to know her more next time.
Thanks airbnb for making this staying possible I will definitely recommend it to anyone who likes simplicity, beauty, and quite time in the area.
Came here for a one night "power" solo get away from the city. It was quiet, pretty secluded. Well I wasn't all alone...there was a Woodchuck who would check in from underneath the cabin :). The grounds for this property are very large, it includes 2 small pounds -- you can have some nice solitary walks, clear the mind. Just 2 hours out of the city. Bring food, so you don't have to worry about shopping.
