The Space

Are you looking for the perfect Vermont family getaway? Exclusively offered by the night or week, our lovingly maintained 1850's riverfront farmhouse with a large attached barn is just minutes from Vermont's best skiing resorts - Stratton, Magic, and Bromley Mountains. Sit and relax in the Adirondack chairs as you listen to the Pikes Falls River running through the private backyard. Gather with friends around the crackling woodstove in the cozy barn. Prepare a feast with fresh food purchased from the local farmer's market in the fully equipped kitchen. Dine around the large farm table by candlelight, and talk and laugh till the wee hours of the night. Enjoy life's simple pleasures in a home with such wonderful history.

On a quiet street just off Main, you will enjoy privacy and quiet time, while being just footsteps away from the village of Jamaica. The village offers a general store that seems to carry everything you could ever need: A coffee shop/café, art galleries, a library, fine inns and restaurants, (email hidden)ly farmer's market on Sundays (seasonal). The Jamaica State Park, also within walking distance from the house, has beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls. Manchester, known for its shopping outlets (Coach, Burberry, Armani, Gap, J. Crew, etc.) and wonderful restaurants is just a 20-minute drive. The Townshend Dam waterways are perfect for canoeing/kayaking and has white, sandy beaches for swimming and picnicking. The Townshend Auction House is an amazing place to find antiques and fine art for pennies on the dollar. There are many area antique shops to browse in. Brattleboro and Bennington are fun towns for day trips. Come and enjoy the natural beauty of Vermont, and surround yourself with meandering rivers and a backdrop of breathtaking mountains. Our home is children and pet-friendly. Sleeps 8 people. One queen and one double bed downstairs, and four twin beds upstairs. The home is outfitted with all the comforts of home, and has a wood stove, a large library of DVDs, wifi, and a washer and dryer.

Guest Access

The guests will have complete access to the entire house, including the attached barn, as well as the entire acre of property.

Interaction with Guests

I interact with my guests shortly after the reservation is booked so that they have all the rental and amenities information. I am always a cell phone call or a text away, too, in case there is any question or concern.

The Neighborhood

Jamaica is perhaps the sweetest little Vermont village that you could imagine! It has all the character and charm you could ask for. Surrounded by a bowl of mountains, it is populated by humble, hard-working, and creative people. You can walk to every little shop and cafe, and the State Park is just footsteps away, too. You'd be hard-pressed to go for a walk and not meet up with someone else on foot willing to say hello and strike up a conversation with you! That's just how it is in Jamaica.

Getting around

There is no public transit, but you can walk to any place within the village.

  • Erin was very helpful and informative of the town and things to do in the area. The area is very quiet and homey with not much to do in the immediate area other than a nice 3 mil hike (one way) to a waterfall or dam. There are great places about 30-45 minutes out including more hikes, great swimming, and a friendly 25' cliff jump. The cliff jump is highly recommended as is the swimming hole (swimming hole water is cooold even in early july).

The home is what you expect a 100+ year old farm house to be. A bit smaller than I thought but we had a good time BBQ and eating around the dinner table playing various game. All in all a good time and great weekend.

  • Erin couldn't have been a better host! She was very responsive and informative, giving us lots of ideas of what's around the area and some fun places to check out. The house is exactly as pictured and described. It's very evident that she and her husband love the house and have put a lot of thought and care into the décor and making you feel at home.

  • We spent Memorial Day weekend at this excellent house in Jamaica. We found the place clean and exactly as was described in the listing. Erin was very helpful and provided us with a list of amenities available, things to do nearby and things we would need to get well in advance. She was easily reachable throughout the stay as well.

    Here are few tips
    - Jamaica state park is only 10 mins walk away. The park has hikes of different difficulties. Start with the simple "railroad hike" and then branch out to uphill hike to a scenic overlook. You can branch out to a hike that goes to nearby waterfalls and Ball Mountain dam too. All these places are very scenic and you see great views everywhere.
    - The backyard of the house is great. We spent a great evening there playing frisbee. There is a grill there too but we never got a chance to use it. There is also a hammock hidden in the trees near the river. The river is so close you can always hear its sound in the house.
    - All the rooms are comfy. The barn was our fav place to hang around, chit chat and play games. It also has a great woodstove/fireplace.
    - You can get necessary groceries and other needs from the grocery store on Highway 30. Its only a 5 min walk from the house. Jamaica town and its people are really pleasant to talk to.
    - Nearby towns like Rawsonville or Brattleboro have kayak rental places if you need. We couldnt go unfortunately.
    - We stopped on the way back at Equinox Mountain. Its about 45 mins away but the top has great views of mountains all around.
    - The house has only one bathroom. We managed amongst all of us fine since no one was that particular about bath timings etc but consider it if you do.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. Would love to come back in Fall.

  • We had a lovely long weekend at Erin's house! She was an excellent and responsive host, and the house was adorable and exceeded our expectations. The area is very cute, quiet, and walking distance to a state park. We especially enjoyed sitting outside in the backyard listening to the river. Very well stocked with everything we needed and more. We look forward to returning!

  • A wonderful long weekend getaway. Erin's place is so perfect. A nice farm house with plenty of beautiful country right outside the front door. Friends and I enjoyed Stratton and Bromley mountains for a wonderful weekend. We came back to this cozy house nestled in the heart of Jamaica! Erin was a gracious host.

  • Erin's farmhouse is very charming and just what we hoped it would be. It is in a beautiful area that lived up to all our expectations.
We had a huge amount of snow and enjoyed fabulous sking at Stratton mountain, lots and lots of powdery white stuff!
The farmhouse was very warm and cosy, with plenty of room for us all. The furniture and decor is great , a good authentic feel.
Erin is a very attentive host and any queries we had she dealt with immediately . The grocery store in Jamaica also gets top marks.
    Great holiday!

  • The house was perfect for our stay. The kitchen was well-appointed and the beds were comfortable and there were lots of blankets and pillows (we had a large group!). It was just a moments walk from food and booze at the country store, so it was the perfect combination of country quiet and country living.

  • The house was the perfect escape. It was very clean and nice - the house has a lot of character and includes a fireplace and grill.

Erin's place is well situated between the town of Jamaica and the state park. Good hikes available in the state park along the river with a great trail for my dog. Also liked the nearby bar Whiskey Dick's just up the road - a lot of great locals.

Erin was proactive with helpful tips and suggestions and responsive to my questions (before and during) the stay. She is a great hostess.

My only advice is to bring some supplies with you (e.g. toilet paper, garbage bags, food, water) as the local market can get pricey, though still very friendly.

Also, dog owners should be aware that the house is located on a road (though quiet) and dogs would need to be leashed for their safety.

    Overall a great stay.

About
I am from New Jersey. I lived in Vermont for 8 years where I attended Bennington College and Vermont College of Norwich University. I met my husband in Vermont, too, so it is only natural that we bought a second home there. We have many great friends and memories there. I have been an art educator for 17 years. Our two beautiful sons, ages 15 & 10 keep us busy! So happy to share our vacation house with airbnb guests!
