About This Listing
Our lovely antique farmhouse, circa 1850, is rich with history and charm. With original wide pine floors, plaster walls, slate roof, and classical lines, you will get a true taste of Vermont's beautiful architecture nestled in the mountains.
One of our two rental houses in the village of Jamaica (the other is listed on airbnb as The Parker House - great for co-vacationing families!) our lovingly maintained 1850's riverfront farmhouse with a large attached barn is just minutes from Vermont's best skiing resorts - Stratton, Magic, and Bromley Mountains. Sit and relax in the Adirondack chairs as you listen to the Pikes Falls River running through the private backyard. Gather with friends around the crackling woodstove in the cozy barn. Prepare a feast with fresh food purchased from the local farmer's market in the fully equipped kitchen. Dine around the large farm table by candlelight, and talk and laugh till the wee hours of the night. Enjoy life's simple pleasures in a home with such wonderful history.
On a quiet street just off Main, you will enjoy privacy and quiet time while being mere footsteps away from a general store that seems to carry everything you could ever need including a wide collection of wines. There is also a hot yoga studio, a glassblowing shop, an art gallery, a library, a historical museum, fine inns and restaurants, and a lively farmer's market on Sundays (seasonal). The Jamaica State Park, also within walking distance from the house, has beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls. Manchester, known for its shopping outlets (Coach, Burberry, Armani, Gap, J. Crew, etc.) and wonderful restaurants is just a 20-minute drive. The Townshend Dam waterways are perfect for canoeing/kayaking and has white, sandy beaches for swimming and picnicking. The Townshend Auction House is an amazing place to find antiques and fine art for pennies on the dollar. There are many area antique shops to browse in. Brattleboro and Bennington are fun towns for day trips. Come experience the natural beauty of Vermont and surround yourself with meandering rivers and a backdrop of breathtaking mountains.
Our home is children and pet-friendly and sleeps 8 people. One queen and one double bed downstairs, and four twin beds upstairs. The house is outfitted with all the comforts of home, a wood stove, a little library of DVDs and books, wifi, and a washer and dryer. Freshly washed linens are provided.
The guests will have complete access to the entire house, including the attached barn, as well as the entire acre of property.
Interaction with Guests
I interact with my guests shortly after the reservation is booked so that they have all the rental and amenities information. I am always a cell phone call or a text away, too, in case there is any question or concern.
Jamaica is perhaps the sweetest little Vermont village that you could imagine! It has all the character and charm you could ask for. Surrounded by a bowl of mountains, it is populated by humble, hard-working, and creative people. You can walk to every little shop, and the State Park is just footsteps away, too. You'd be hard-pressed to go for a walk and not meet up with someone else on foot willing to say hello and strike up a conversation with you! That's just how it is in Jamaica.
There is no public transit, but you can walk or bicycle to any place within the village.
Other Things to Note
Please realize that Vermont country living can sometimes bring unexpected surprises. Although very old homes have tons of charm, they must not be compared to 4-star hotels. We price our two Jamaica properties with this in mind. Thank you! We hope you enjoy your stay!
Please treat the house like the precious antique that it is. We love our second home, and trust that anyone who rents it will not smoke inside or misuse it in any way. Pets are invited, but MUST be housebroken!
Also, please do not leave any trash/recyclables on the premises. There is a town dump just outside the village and a free-access card for guests' use. Failure to follow this rule will result in a $25 fee drawn from the deposit.
This little house is out of this world. It's wonderfully quirky and cozily intimate. Erin was extremely communicative and friendly throughout the entire booking process, making everything run very smoothly. And the house was awesome. Jamaica is a quiet, beautiful community that everyone should visit. And when they do, this house is the place to go. 10/10.
Erin's farmhouse was comfortable, welcoming and a great retreat for a group of couples! It was a short distance to the Stratton mountain and the town of Jamaica is truly a quintessential Vermont town. We loved our experience and are looking forward to going back soon!
The house was warm, comfortable and perfect for a family holiday. It was easy to find and thoroughly stocked. We felt right at home! Would love to spend another holiday there again.
Our stay at Erin & Bjorn's house was wonderful! The listing is quite accurate. We love older homes and the character that comes with them. This house has a lot of character.
We had eight people total and were able to accomodate all to sleep soundly.
One major challenge is coordinating the shower and use of the bathroom. It is clearly listed as only having one bathroom but if you are a larger group you should factor this into your planning
The town of Jamaica is small but the store had just about anything we missed.
We used the home as a base for skiing in Stratton and it is convenient at 10 miles to the main base.
Finally Erin was super responsive both before our stay and during the stay.
We plan to be back.
Host was very helpful. Sent an email and instructions were clear. The house was in great shape and was as described. We found the town to be nice, and the location was great.
The house is definitely and 1850's style farmhouse, and we enjoyed the aesthetic. Heat worked fine (we visited in nov).
Our time at 83 Depot Street was exactly what we needed. Erin's house was cozy, well-situated, and clean. We enjoyed the town of Jamaica, but used the location as a jumping off point for many nearby charming Vermont towns. The river was both a beautiful and soothing backdrop. The rooms were small, but comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and there was lots of space to relax and roam throughout the house. The backyard - complete with fire pit, hammock, little platform overlooking the river and table + chairs - was a total respite even though the house is in the midst of the village. The nearby state park is incredible and there are lots of great destinations just a short drive away. It was a great vacation spot for our two little families and a place we would gladly go back to someday.

About the Host, Erin
I am from New Jersey. I lived in Vermont for 8 years where I attended Bennington College and Vermont College of Norwich University. I met my husband in Vermont too, so it was always our dream to own a second home there. We have many great friends and memories there and whenever I am away from Vermont, I feel its tug. It's just something about Vermont that I cannot explain. I have been an art educator for over 18 years. Our two beautiful sons, Levi and Vaughn, keep us busy! We are so happy to share our vacation house with airbnb guests and they all seem to really love our place, too! (P.S. - we recently acquired a second vacation house in the same village of Jamaica, so check it out - it is listed on airbnb as The Parker House 1832 Gem. The two houses are perfect for co-vacationing families!).
