A 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, catering up to 6 persons, with sea views from the balcony, and an indoor BBQ/fireplace, 300m from the beach, and 5 minutes walk from the centre of town, near the jetty and many great restaurants.
The main bedroom - queen bed with hand made linen. (Please note: we have a number of different sets, this may not always be on the bed, also note the curtains have been changed due to some rust damage, since the photo)
Swanlamer 12 from By The Beach offers affordable self catering accommodation, around 5 minutes walk from the centre of town, with several great restaurants (rg The Tug, Europahof) within a few minutes walk. The apartment is approximately 300 metres from the beach, with a sea view from the balcony and master bedroom. There is a queen bedroom with an ensuite, and a twin bedroom with a separate bathroom next door, as well as a sleeper couch in the lounge. In traditional Swakopmund style, there is a built in indoor Braai (barbecue/fireplace). We also provide great extras such as filter coffee, condiments, ear buds, toiletries and handmade linen made by a community project, Iyaloo.
Please note some curtains and linen has been changed since photos due to wear, and I'm unable to get decent updates, although there are some casual shots on our blog.
Rates are flexible depending on length of stay, contact me for a request.
Lucinda and I pride ourselves on customer service, and I really enjoy having people tell me the loved staying at my place, especially while I can't, so please contact me and let me know how I can help with your trip to Swakopmund.
The apartment, with condiments, coffee, soaps, linen, full equipment for self catering, including washing machine/dryer, and dishwasher.
Interaction with Guests
I'm not living in Swakopmund, unfortunately, so I have no interaction with guests, except by email or AirBNB messages, prior to and post booking. I have a manager, Lucinda, she handles guests needs, and is very guest orientated. She is on hand 24-7 whenever there is a problem, I don't know how she does it.
I love our location, it is 300m from the beach, and few minutes walk from the jetty, and the centre of town. We need not drive anywhere once we are there. Also I love the view. Swakopmund is a beautiful German style town, and it is tourist focused so there are plenty of great restaurants, curio and craft shops, and other things to do. There's also a great golf course where the springbok and oryx roam on the fairways.
Getting to Swakopmund from Windhoek is around 3.5 hours drive, a relatively good road, but best to complete the trip during the day, as at night there is more potential danger from animals on the road.
If you're travelling from Windhoek, something not to be missed is the Desert Express - an overnight tourist train from Windhoek to Swakopmund.
There's also a slow train from Windhoek with TransNamib, I believe it also is an overnight trip.
There's air travel, either charter into Swakopmund airport, and scheduled airline flights into Walvis Bay and Windhoek. Hire cars are available at the airports.
There's not really public transport around Swakopmund that we are aware of, but taxis are cheap, only not metered, beware of being overcharged, ask locals what the prices are.
Other Things to Note
We have a lift in the building, but, sadly it is often under maintenance, and not reliable
Also, sadly I live in the UAE temporarily, and only see my apartment every year or two, but Lucinda keeps me updated.
No Smoking inside!
We enjoyed three nights in Swanlamer 12. The apartment is large, clean and modern with lots of upgrades. Our family of five was very comfortable in the two bedrooms (sleeping 4) with one on the pull-out bed in the living room.
Swakopmund was a little sleepy and cold this time of year (July), but the apartment is in a fantastic location and has ocean views. We did use the fireplace to keep warm in the house, but the house was a bit cold (the space heater in the living room was pretty worthless).
We appreciated the laundry and kitchen and made good use of those. Also, we had off-street parking in a garage that was very secure and easy. The check-in process was also quite convenient and easy, we just called when we arrived in town. Swakop was a fun town to explore and there are lots of good restaurants near the apartment.
All in all, we were very happy with the apartment. There is no internet, but the kids did enjoy some cable TV after a week camping. The only issues we had were the cold, which was completely manageable with a nice fire in the fireplace! We would definitely return and hope to!
Very nice'n convenient place, right next to the jetty trestle, and walking distance to all attractions in town, safe, clean, and with all necessities you need during self-catering. Beautiful apartment!! On the jetty, you can even buy fresh fishes from the ocean. ^ ^
This is a rare photo of me relaxing in the dessert, with my daughter. I wish I could do it more...but hey, I'm working on it!
Please note, first, I (sadly) don't live in Namibia right now. The contact number above is from my awesome check-in agent Nita. She will meet you at our apartment on arrival, show you around, explain everything, and try to take care of your every need while you stay at our place. she's so busy doing this she doesn't get much time for emails, so this part I do.
When we stayed in Namibia (Windhoek) we loved going down to our holiday apartment on the coast, and we still go back for holidays now and then.
Myself and my husband are both in aviation, and right now we are taking a break in the UAE for our career.
Being a pilot, I traveled a lot, and I reckon I've seen more hotels and accommodation places than I ever needed to. With all that experience I've tried to set up our apartment with everything I'd like to have when I'm on holiday, but without feeling like a hotel. I really hope you like it.
If you want to phone me my number is (phone number hidden), it's on my email after you make a booking too.
