  • Art and Deb are really nice people. This house in Makawao was just like we wanted. In a big garden with star fruit, avocado, passion fruit trees. Away from the big hotels and crowd. Very quiet and peaceful. On our first day, Art gave us lots of coupons for restaurants and shops. We followed his recommendations and had an amazing stay in Maui. They were hosts in the beginning but now we feel like we have two wonderful "friends" :))

  • This is a great place and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to have a wonderful stay in a quiet place away from hotels and river of tourists. Deborah and Art were amazing hosts, who not only welcomed us to their house but to the island as well. This was our first trip to Maui and Art gave us recommendations on restaurants, beaches and activities and even texted us with weather updates (it was raining and my sister was there only for 3 days so we were trying to catch as much sun as possible).
Major highway is 1 minute away, old town less than 5 and Baldwin Beach, the most beautiful beach (with unbelievably blue water) just 20 minutes away from the house. We loved the house and had an amazing stay and hope to go back to Maui soon!

  • We were originally staying at Deborah's Kihei location, but she had to move us to this one in Makawao. We were disappointed since we plan to go to the beach. On the other hand, we would never have gotten a chance to see the countryside of Maui. Deborah shared all her fruits with us, which included Maui pineapples! She said we can eat anything in her garden. Unfortunately, nothing was ripe and we couldn't take them home. The house was very clean. Deb keeps it really clean so despite it is in the countryside, I only saw one small cockroach in the bathroom. Deb supplied us with beach towels. Deb also made us organic juices and tea, v. healthy! Her husband drove all the way to our house to drop off the drinks before our departure!! One thing to note is that there are many roosters nearby so around 5:30am they start to crow! It helped us wake up and get on with our day! When you sleep with the windows open, you can hear the sounds of nature (priceless!!!).

  • Deborah is charismatic and giving and - I don't want to overstate this - but something about the way she welcomed us into her and Art's garden made our wedding anniversary stay, well, magical. She provided us with freshly made juices, perceptive advice, and introduced us to the local farmer's market! Our room was clean, comfy, and our windows opened out to a wonderful breeze.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed at Deborah's house in Makawao and had sucha great time. The house is just what you imagine in a cute, full service Hawaiian bungalow. It has a beautiful garden with tropical fruits right there for the picking, full patio with all the accoutrements (e.g., table chairs, gas grill, shade). The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and had lots of space. There was only one other guest there during our stay, but we were active on outings and so was the other guest, so we basically felt like we had the place to ourselves. Deborah also let us use the beach chairs, towels and boogie boards so we were pretty much fully outfitted and had an awesome time!

  • I stayed in the beautiful house in Makawao for three nights and enjoyed every minute of it. Since the other room in the house was not booked I had the whole house to myself. The room itself was great, very spacious and airy with a wonderful view to the large garden.
The living room and kitchen were beautiful and the entire house was super clean. Boogie boards, beach towels, cooling boxes and an umbrella are provided as well.
Deborah and Art are great hosts and incresibly friendly and helpful people - I couldn't have wished for better hosts. Lloyd who is living in a small house on the same property is als such a nice person who took care of my and brought me fruit and peanuts from the garden.
Makawao is a very sweet town to visit in a beautiful surrounding and close to all major sightseeing spots of Maui.
I definitely recommend that place for a nice, quiet stay in the wonderful Upcountry.
Thank you so much, Deborah and Art, hope to be your guest again.

  • If you are looking for somewhere that is clean, neat, comfortable, and friendly to clear your your mind and soul, this is the perfect place to stay. You can enjoy the countryside that is quiet, and abundant fruit trees in Deborah's property. She also makes sure you get an nutricious breakfast to start your day in Maui. Her neighbor was also very friendly and helpful. He made himself available to us while Deborah is not home, and gave us a lot of travel tips and told us where the locals eat. We will definitely stay with Deborah again if we ever go back to Maui!

  • Deborah was a great host, she made us feel at home even before we arrived. She greeted us personally although she was supposed to be in bed with a hurt leg. During our stay she cooked a delicious soup for us and baked some yummy cookies - THANKS!
The room and the whole house were very well kept and clean, there are some strict house rules in place, but they are easy to follow and help to organize the usage of the shared spaces. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to do your cooking. We loved that there is filtered water available to drink - there is no need to buy an carry bottled water.
During our stay in late February is was quite chilly in Upcountry compared to the coast, which we enjoyed - because it made sleeping relaxing. We also loved the nice and comfy mattress and the garden view from our room.
In season guests can enjoy the fruits growing in the garden which are kept by a nice gardener who showed us an unusual way to eat the delicious Hawaiian bananas.
As Makawao is a bit of the beaten path you'll have to drive to sights and beaches - but you'll have to do that anyways if you are not planning on spending all your holidays in a resort, so to us it was not a big issue. Shopping is nearby at Foodland.

Deborah's home provides a really nice and clean base for exploring beautiful Maui and provides good value for money - she and her husband Art were more than willing to give information about things to do on the island if asked otherwise you'll get your privacy if you like to. Would definitely stay with Deborah again if we ever return to Maui.

  • We stayed 4 nights in Deborah and Art's "upcountry" home in Makawao. It was squeaky clean and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the housemates we had while there. Deborah and Art are big-hearted people and have thought of everything to make the house comfortable to stay in.
