A homely welcome awaits you at our beautiful villa directly on the beach, in unspoilt North Bali. Our staff will cook and clean for you, all you have to do is relax and enjoy your holiday.
After spending a couple of decades travelling most parts of the world, we found ourselves returning by choice to Bali again and again. Eventually, we decided to build a villa on Bali's north coast as it meets our needs of solitude and serenity, supported by Balinese manners and hospitality. Equally, we needed good infrastructure and communications - such as frequent international flights and the Internet - but moreover we desired an excellent climate and a beach location!
We are attracted by Balinese culture and simplicity, both in architectural design and style of living. Our villa is buka style (meaning open) with a traditional, high thatched roof and free to enjoy the moderate climate. It can accommodate 8 guests in four double bedrooms, three with air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms, whilst the open sweeping staircase leads to the 4th bedroom which enjoys an impressive open vista of the sea from its mosquito-netted four-poster bed, high in the buka's eaves. Being on a mezzanine level this is unsuitable for young children. Two bathrooms are Balinese-style, which are half indoor/outdoor allowing one to absorb Nature's beauty whilst also preserving privacy.
The villa's floor area is some 460 sq m (5000 sq ft), and occupies about one quarter of the tropical garden area. A large open plan lounge (no air-conditioner use in lounge as it is too open) and terrace has commanding views over the Bali Sea. A large "infinity" swimming pool, measuring 18m x 6m (60ft x 20ft) is both suitable for young families as well as the more serious bather, (for safety, children need to be supervised at all times).
Outside living is enhanced by two large bale benongs - simple but comprehensive thatched sunshades furnished with soft mattresses and cushions as well as lighting and power points, perhaps for the laptop addict! The bale benongs provide remarkably relaxing view points to either socialise with friends or to escape into tranquil peace. Meanwhile, five water features combine to subtly relax and soothe the soul. Internet is provided.
Daytime staff include a housekeeper/cook and a gardener, 6 days a week, whilst night time security is provided 7-days a week. Our housekeeper is happy to cook and shop for you. We can arrange a massage therapist to come to the villa for approx US$12 per hour.
Our villa, called Puri Segara, is magnificently situated on a quiet stretch of beach in Tangguwisia. The villa is surrounded by vineyards and rice fields with a unique view of the mountains of the North. The villa is about 15 minutes drive from Lovina and 5 minutes from Seririt.
Here in the North there are still many traditional plantations, waterfalls, temples and villages that perform various trades. Walks in the vicinity of the villa along the beach and beside the fields and temples gives many opportunities for the avid photographer and allows you a window on the life of the still traditional ways of this unspoiled area of Bali. You will often see personal ceremonies being conducted on the beach and at the local temple as well as larger village ceremonies.
There are many activities to keep you amused during your stay. Early in the morning, jump on a local boat from our beach to visit the dolphins (sometimes you can see them from the villa). Visit waterfalls, hot springs, and temples. Golf is 45 minutes away as is the botanical garden. Horse riding in the hills above Lovina. Tennis is 20 minutes away. The best diving and snorkelling is at Menjangan Island which can be organised with a local dive centre. You can play badminton and croquet in the garden. Lovina is the place for the best restaurants in North Bali. You can hire a car with a driver for about 500,000 Indonesian Rupiah per day. Alternatively you could rent a small motorbike although driving in Bali can be risky at times! We can help you organise airport transfer and any other trips.
I will provide you with all the help you need to make your stay as peaceful or as active as you would like :)
The rent includes:
Shampoo, conditioner, soap

This stunning villa is a perfect place to relax and enjoy with family or friends. Our hosts Valerie and Nigel were there to welcome us, offer advice and make sure we had all we wanted. The villa staff are great and all in all we had a wonderful stay and left feeling thoroughly refreshed. The location is great if you want to escape the crowds, traffic and bustle in the southern resort areas, it is unspoilt and worth the extra hike to get there. We took advantage of the trip past the volcanoes to visit lakes, rice terraces and temples on the journey with the unexpected bonus of fresh strawberries bought by the roadside for lunch. Unforgettable!
The villa is just as advertised. Spectacularly constructed with a beautiful swimming pool, very private, pristine and fitting nicely into the less touristy north side of Bali. Definitely the highlight of our trip.
Valerie and Nigel were excellent hosts with a wonderful staff that were very accommodating in looking after our needs and promptly answering our questions. We are very thankful for their attentiveness and help in navigating language barriers.
I would strongly recommend this for families or people looking for a unique resort-like experience with a bit more luxury/privacy.
After a last minute change to our travel plans, Valerie and her Husband Nigel kindly accepted our request to stay at their villa in the North of Bali, for three nights. We enjoyed our time at the Villa, but due to the last minute booking there were a few things that occurred, and we'd not considered, that in all likeliness wouldn't have happened if there was sufficient notice and preparation time for our stay.
Villa and Location: We loved the beachfront access the villa enjoyed - the sounds of the ocean and the occasionally passing fishing boats and locals were great to see. The pool was huge and the Poolside Bale wonderful to relax in. The gardens were large and colorful. The location was quite and secluded which, given we'd not researched enough, was probably too remote for our liking, We required a driver every time we wanted to leave the villa and most things were about a 15-20min drive away. If you had your own transport or were looking for a place away from it all - this would be perfect for your needs.
The Villa itself was nice, but the staircase without a barrier was a bit disconcerting for our group, just a personal preference I guess. However if you were staying with children constant supervision would be required both inside (Stairs) and out (Pool).
We had a couple of minor issues, that as mentioned may not have been so if we'd not booked within the week of arrival. There were several lights out indoors and out when we arrived. This included the pool lights - so no night time swimming. These were fixed during our stay, but unfortunately without prior notice to us on a day we'd set aside for relaxing at the villa, so it was a little awkward when a few guys rocked up and entered out bedroom to fix things etc. The deck, which is lovely, had recently been replaced. Due to this we found a very sharp piece of metal in the pool which would have left a serious cut or puncture if stepped on. Nigel assured me when I brought this to his attention he'd don his scuba gear to comprehensively clean the pool floor.
Overall - we enjoyed this place, but left feeling that we'd perhaps arrived unprepared in our knowledge and research and that the villa was a little under-prepared for our stay. We're chalking this down to our late notice booking and believe that Valerie and Nigel's Villa would be the perfect getaway in the high season when everything is perfect!
Dear Brett thank you for all your comments. All your advice is carefully noted.
You are correct about the stairs and pool which as clearly seen in the photos are not safe for unattended children - in fact I tell any guests that enquire with children that the stairs are not suitable and that all the pools and swimming pools and sea are a danger so children must be supervised at all times.
I am glad you enjoyed our villa and its surroundings. Yes our villa is in an unspoilt part of Bali and as noted on the airbnb site "The villa is about 15 minutes drive from Lovina and 5 minutes from Seririt."- therefore a car and driver is required for any sight seeing which I feel is quite normal when you live out of town. Drivers here charge very reasonable prices for taking you on long or short excursions. Often the driving is included in the cost of the outing e.g. the snorkelling/scuba diving, as one of your friends experienced, for dolphin watching you are picked up on the beach directly in front of the villa. Some of the restaurants in Lovina will pick you up from the villa for free as will the spas although we do have a fantastic massage therapist that comes to the villa for US$12 per hour.
I am sorry you were inconvenienced by some of the lights being out. My husband Nigel fixed the problem as promptly as he could. I also apologise that you found a small piece of aluminium in the pool that must have fallen in due to the recent replacement of the pool decking.
All in all your comments are noted and we will as always endeavour to give our guests a wonderful Balinese experience.
Villa Puri Segara was perfect for our purpose. We were a family getting together over Christmas with family members coming from Canada, Australia and the UK. We wanted to be in Bali but away from the touristy areas. The north shore of Bali was it.
The villa offered so much - space for all to chill out, a pool that was great to laze in or by, quiet gardens. It was hard to leave the villa to go sightseeing but we did for one day and found the local area fascinating.
The villa hasstaff that couldn't do enough for us. Komang and Iluh were fabulous cooks. Having someone who was willing to shop and cook for us was a real treat. Better though were the meals we enjoyed. We said to the ladies that we'd eat whatever they would have prepared for their family and as a result, enjoyed many local dishes that we wouldn't have enjoyed if we had gone out or cooked for ourselves.
Our family's time at the villa was complete R&R!
The villa is lovely and in a super local what with the beach at the end of the garden.
Although we never met Valerie and Nigel, they were quick to reply to any enquire, very attentive to our wishes, helping us arrange transport from and to the airport for all the family, as well as sorting out scuba diving courses. They made our first use of airBnB very easy.
Thank you for having us stay in your villa.
We are so pleased your worldly family had such a good stay at our villa Puri Segara. I know the staff enjoyed having you all to stay. You were all such wonderful guests. We are sorry we missed seeing you but we were holidaying ourselves with our families over the festive season, England and then New York - what a world we live in that we may all travel so easily. We hope that you will return and then we can meet up. All the best Valerie
Thank you so much Valerie and Nigel for this absolutely wonderful holiday. As mentioned in the previous reviews, the villa itself is gorgeous and absolutely breathtaking. When my family (three generations) arrived there, everyone was amazed by the stunning view. We love the villa so much and appreciate every efforts Valerie and Nigel have made.
Other than the breathtaking views, I also would like thank Valerie and Nigel for their tremendous help. Valerie organised a baby car seat, a stroller and a baby carrier for my 10 months boy without extra charges. She introduced her personal masseuse to us and we got massage at the villa everyday. She also arranged a lot of activities for us such as fishing, snorkeling, dolphin watch, etc. and that is the reason why we enjoyed our holiday so much!
Nigel is really great, when he found out that my father in law has metabolic arthritis, he came to the villa in less than 2 minutes and drove my husband to a pharmacy straightaway. The beauty of the villa is the reason we had a wonderful holiday, but the kindness of Valerie and Nigel is the reason we feel it's like a home.
Highly recommended villa and we will see you again for sure.
We are in love with Valerie's villa! The views are simply spectacular, with the sea literally just ten feet away from the edge of the garden. It is also amazing to have a "proper" pool, which is perfect for just chilling or if you want to have a real spot of exercise. The house itself is gorgeous. We loved curling up on the couch to read and nap during the day, with the sea breeze coming through the doors all day. At night, the lighting accents the outdoor area beautifully and the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner or outdoor parties.
To top it all off, Valerie and her husband were wonderful hosts. They sent a pre-trip information kit filled with essential and useful nuggets, and they were super thoughtful during our stay. The staff taking care of the house and their guests were helpful and conscientious, paying attention to little details, and obliging to our requests.
We didn't leave the villa premises for 6 days (except to make short runs to the local supermarket), and there are good reasons why. If you want a place to simply chill out in a beautiful setting and get away from the rest of the world, this is it.
Thank you for having us Valerie, and we really enjoyed our stay!
Thank you for your kind words Rena. It was lovely having you stay in our villa. Hosting on airbnb with guests like you make it so worthwhile. It is an honour to be able to share paradise with other like travellers.
I hope we will see you again and of course tell all your friends :)
Our family spent a glorious week at Valerie's spectacular villa. Great host, well designed house, fantastic pool and friendly staff to cook and clean for us. All in all, a wonderful place to relax and unwind.
We collectively agreed it was the best holiday we have had in a long while.
This location is amazing. The villa is so gorgeous and the pool and the garden are absolutely wonderful! This place is paradise and it is not possible to feel relaxed after spending some time here.
Valerie was absolutely wonderful in assisting my family and me. She provided us so much helpful information and arranged our airport transfers. Her incredible staff in the villa made our stay unforgettable.
We would highly recommend staying in Valeries villa. We will definately come back.
Valerie and Nigel have been really welcoming and helpful when we stays for a few nights at their villa. The house is indeed spectacular, with an impressive view of the sea from the infinity pool. The bedrooms are quite big and we could fit easily our 2 kids, our baby and our friends 2 kids as well. I would recommend Valérie and Nigel's piece if paradise anytime.
We had an amazing time at the villa! The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful this place is! And the cook and house manager were also so wonderful! We didn't eat out once because her cooking was so good! Valerie and Nigel were so helpful and attentive and really helped us make the best of our stay there.
Truly, you won't regret staying here!
