We are renting our lovely secondary house in the beautiful medieval village of la Bastide d Engras in the south of France. 13 km north of the beautiful village of Uzes and just 50 km east of Avignon.
The house is an old Magnanerie from the XIX century. It can accommodate up to 8 persons with new and comfortable beds. It was nicely renovated by a Belgium couple using only local stones and materials. It is fully equipped and ready to welcome one or two families . It includes 2 living rooms, 4 bedrooms and 2 spacious bathrooms.
The people, food and wine in the area are unforgettable; and the village has a five star traditional baker producing delicious and rare bio bread Last but not least the sun is almost ensured.
There are many attractions and place to visit in less than an hour drive. This includes the famous city of Uzes with its castle hosting the oldest duke of France, the amazing city of Avignon with its many cultural festivals, the Camargue and the roman city of Arles and the nice beaches of Montpellier. The saturday farmer market in Uzes located on “la place aux herbes” has been rated one o one of the top 10 nicest french typical market.
The place offers a lot of options for sports. Starting in the house itself, we have a nice stone bassin, not enough to swim but great to refresh. There are 4 bikes available, to discover the hiking and biking trails linking all the old villages. There is also a tennis club in Uzes with clay courts. Finally, swimming in the rivers around the house is fun and quite unique. You should also not miss the kayak trip to discover the Pont du Gard (famous Roman aqueduc).
We are sure you will love this place.

We spent two weeks in this wonderful house. The atmosphere is sunny and friendly and the attention to detail is overwhealming. Thanks for providing such a nice experience!
Our stay at Xavier and Sophie's was truly amazing. After a very easy and nice exchange of emails with Xavier to confirm our stay, our main point of contact was Sophie (Xavier's wife). She is extremely kind, funny and helpful. She sent us in advance a very comprehensive booklet with the highlights of the area as well as recommendations to eat out, visit the local markets and enjoy all kind of activities in the area. This was really helpful to help us plan our stay. It also made very clear the things that we had to do to keep the house in order and avoid any misunderstandings. All our conversations and discussions were clear, easy and straightforward.
The place in itself is gorgeous. It's much bigger than we expected it and even though we were 3 couples, we had 2 bedrooms to spare. Sophie left us a lot of ingredients to cook and the kitchen is very well equiped--so very useful to take advantage of the local produce from the nearby markets. The house is on the rustic side but with a very funky decoration. Most importantly it was very clean and had anything that you would expect to have a great time in the South of France (we didn't use them but the TV and DVD player were also there). You can tell that they live and take advantage of the place as it is very well kept and the decoration is excellent. The only down side was that we could not use the basin as it was slightly chilly by the time that we returned from exploring the area (it was late September). At nights, the house is really well insulated so it was actually warm (and perfect to have a glass of wine in the terrace).
In short, the place is a great base to visit nearby Uzes, nearby hikes, Pont du Gard Arles, Avignon or to simply relax and have a taste of the joie de vivre. We hope to stay again very soon as we invariably needed more time to explore and enjoy the house. We highly recommend it.
