Charming stone house, very nicely decorated by architect, with a swimming pool , 4 very comfortable bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 2 unique stone bathrooms and an high ceilling study room with terasse. The house can accommodate up to 8 guests.

The space

We are renting our lovely secondary house in the beautiful medieval village of la Bastide d Engras in the south of France. 13 km north of the beautiful village of Uzes and just 50 km east of Avignon.

The house is an old Magnanerie from the XIX century. It can accommodate up to 8 persons with new and comfortable beds. It was nicely renovated by a Belgium couple using only local stones and materials. It is fully equipped and ready to welcome one or two families . It includes 2 living rooms, 4 bedrooms and 2 spacious bathrooms. The house also has a large and stunning study room with a terasse overlooking the garigue. It is an ideal place for doing a research or writing a book.
The people, food and wine in the area are unforgettable. Last but not least the sun is almost ensured.

There are many attractions and place to visit in less than an hour drive. This includes the famous city of Uzes with its castle hosting the oldest duke of France, the amazing city of Avignon with its many cultural festivals, the Camargue and the roman city of Arles and the nice beaches of Montpellier. The saturday farmer market in Uzes located on “la place aux herbes” has been rated one o one of the top 10 nicest french typical market.

The place offers a lot of options for sports. Starting in the house itself, we have a 16m swimming corridor . There are beatiful hicking tracks starting from the door step of village. There are also 3 bikes available, to discover the biking trails in the garrigue. There is also a tennis club in Uzes with clay courts. Finally, swimming in the rivers around the house is fun and quite unique. You should also not miss the kayak trip to discover the Pont du Gard (famous Roman aqueduc).

We are sure you will love our place and we look forward to welcoming you

Xavier and Sophie

Xavier and Sophie, who do not live locally, were very helpful prior to our arrival by providing us with all the necessary information; driving routes to the house, local sightseeing opportunities and activities, etc. Upon arrival, we were met by the host's local english-speaking friends, Linda and Daniel, who live a few doors away. They were delightful as well as being extremely helpful whenever an issue came up. And, a few issues did come up with wi-fi and a few other items. Linda and Daniel helped solve the problems and Xavier and Sophie stayed on top of the problems from a distance, as well, in addition to giving us a partial, unrequested, refund of our rental fee.

What a beautiful home! We have just returned from this gorgeous house and couldn't have wished for a better place to stay. From the moment we booked Xavier and Sophie were so helpful, and although sadly we couldn't meet them in person their neighbour Edith was incredibly helpful showing us around the house when we arrived. The chateau is absolutely huge - 4 double bedrooms, 2 living areas, 2 bathrooms (one of which was the most gorgeous en suite you could imagine) and a fantastically equipped kitchen. Each room had so much character and the entire house was beautifully decorated and incredibly spacious. The roof terrace was just perfection and even though the plunge pool wasn't ready it didn't matter - for the price we could not complain about anything. There is an incredible place to go swimming in the river nearby, with gorgeous waterfalls and rapids. The village is lovely - no shop nearby so you need a car but the next village is only a 5-10 min drive away and the surrounding countryside is stunning. We couldn't recommend this place enough and send huge thanks to Xavier and Sophie for letting us stay. We really did not want to leave and will 100% be going back. A beautiful house at an excellent price - you could not wish for more!

We had the loveliest time in Provence with this gorgeous house as our home for one week. Everything was provided for and we really enjoyed spending time in the kitchen as well as outside on the patio. Sophie was very helpful and kind. She provided good information prior to our arrival, and the booklet in the house was useful for activities etc. in the beautiful area. We look forward to a possible return:-)

Our stay at Xavier and Sophie's was truly amazing. After a very easy and nice exchange of emails with Xavier to confirm our stay, our main point of contact was Sophie (Xavier's wife). She is extremely kind, funny and helpful. She sent us in advance a very comprehensive booklet with the highlights of the area as well as recommendations to eat out, visit the local markets and enjoy all kind of activities in the area. This was really helpful to help us plan our stay. It also made very clear the things that we had to do to keep the house in order and avoid any misunderstandings. All our conversations and discussions were clear, easy and straightforward. The place in itself is gorgeous. It's much bigger than we expected it and even though we were 3 couples, we had 2 bedrooms to spare. Sophie left us a lot of ingredients to cook and the kitchen is very well equiped--so very useful to take advantage of the local produce from the nearby markets. The house is on the rustic side but with a very funky decoration. Most importantly it was very clean and had anything that you would expect to have a great time in the South of France (we didn't use them but the TV and DVD player were also there). You can tell that they live and take advantage of the place as it is very well kept and the decoration is excellent. The only down side was that we could not use the basin as it was slightly chilly by the time that we returned from exploring the area (it was late September). At nights, the house is really well insulated so it was actually warm (and perfect to have a glass of wine in the terrace). In short, the place is a great base to visit nearby Uzes, nearby hikes, Pont du Gard Arles, Avignon or to simply relax and have a taste of the joie de vivre. We hope to stay again very soon as we invariably needed more time to explore and enjoy the house. We highly recommend it.
