This west-facing cottage is perfectly situated on the Ottawa River to watch a blazing Ontario sunset. A short one hour drive from Ottawa or Montréal, the cottage is the perfect getaway for a stay-cation, to chill out, self-isolate and to hideout from the world for a few days or longer.

The cottage will leave you feeling calm and rejuvenated. The perfect antidote to the trials and tribulations of a changing world.

The space
The main floor of the cottage is highlighted by an open plan living area, dining area and kitchen where you can chat with friends. The space is filled with natural light and a walkout to the upper deck where you will be amazed at the beautiful views of the Laurentians across the wide-open bay.

The main floor has a bedroom with a queen size bed, walk-in closet and ensuite bathroom with a jacuzzi bath tub and hand-held shower.

The basement takes you to the master bedroom, with a king size bed, an ensuite bathroom and walk-in shower.

A third bedroom, with a queen size bed, can be found across the hallway from the master bedroom.

The basement living area is highlighted by lots of natural light, a bar area, a walkout to the back garden and fantastic views of the Ottawa River. Watch the boat traffic, read a book, or just chill out with your morning coffee or an afternoon sundowner.

Guest access
The entire house is available with the exception of one room in the basement that is used as a storage area, and the garage which is also used for storage.

Other things to note
There are two bicycles and two kayaks available for guest use.

A chiminea is located at the bottom of the garden that can be used for campfires. Some fire wood is available in the square black box, next to the kayaks.

The cottage is close to country walks and hiking trails.

This area is also a great place to plan a local cycling holiday. Local cycling routes are published on the Champlain Township and Prescott-Russell Township websites.

Officially, the cottage is a pet free zone. On request, dogs (preferably small dogs, house trained) will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. An additional cleaning fee will be required.

Note, the cleaning fee charged is higher due to new government regulations regarding health, safety and sanitization. If you require a cleaner during your stay, there will be an additional charge.

Location

L'Orignal, Ontario, Canada

The village, where the cottage is located, is very peaceful and sleepy. It is located on a private road with deeded access to the water (further along the private road).

Amenities in the village include, a convenience store with an LCBO outlet (limited selection of beer, wine and spirits), a small museum (seasonal only), and a marina.

Just a few minutes away, you'll find groceries, the main LCBO (larger selection of booze), a few restaurants, fast food, some shops, a hardware store and a garden centre. A short 15 minute drive away will take you into the village of Vankleek Hill. Farther afield is the beautiful village of Hudson. Montebello, Parc Omega and Mont Tremblant are all an easy day trip from the cottage.

The village is unique because it is named after a Moose, and is highlighted by a large Moose, as you drive into the sleepy hollow.

For almost 20 years. I have lived abroad as an Expat-Canadian. I have lived in the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Curaçao, the U.K., and for 15 years in the United Arab Emirates. Most recently, I have been spending time in South Africa. My profession has taken me all over the world, including many obscure countries such as Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Liberia, Ghana and the Ivory Coast. I never would have thought of visiting some of these places as a tourist. At last count, I have visited at least 88 countries throughout the world. I believe travelling opens our eyes to how special our world truly is. The world is a beautiful place and something that we need to nurture for the next generation. We have to look after this "Blue Dot" that we call home. There is nothing better than discovering quirky corners of the world. The best part of travelling is making new friends, enjoying good food, fine wine and great conversation. As for me, my favourite country to visit is South Africa, and I could see myself living there in the future. Scotland, Malta, Spain, New Zealand, the Hawaiian Islands, also have left their mark on me. There are still many parts of the world that I have not yet explored: the Greek Islands, Sicily, Panama, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia rank high on my bucket list. I can't wait to find out what's around the next corner. Non-fiction books are my favourite read. Especially, books about aging rock stars, like Keith Richards and Pete Townsend. I also enjoy Scandinavian crime fiction by the likes of Jo Nesbo. After a long day on the road, there is nothing better than watching a set of live music that gets you into the groove and helps you unwind. Live music is most definitely good for the soul. As for me, I am looking forward to my next adventure, wherever or whatever that may be. A dream of mine is to drive off into the sunset in a vintage Volkswagen bus with my favourite person at my side (you know who that is). Sometimes, dreams do come true. My motto in life is "Live for today. Tomorrow may never come!"
