The space
The three large windows in this second floor Oak Room overlook the woods and waterfall, pond and flower gardens. The queen size bed was Amish made high so if you happen to be vertically challenged, steps are provided to help you into bed :-) The cost of the Oak Room occupied by 1-2 people is $140. A full country breakfast is included in the cost. By itself, this room can accommodate up to 2 people, but can be booked with the adjoining room as the Oak Suite.
The furniture in the Oak Room was the first Bryan and Ruth commissioned to be made by Amish craftsmen in Wayne County. It is red oak from Luftberg Farm trees, and was chosen in Mission Style to compliment an oak secretary dresser that Ruth's mother acquired in the 1950's by buying all of the household goods of an elderly neighborhood spinster for $50!! The lack of any closet in this room makes the large armoire a necessity, but adds to the historical feeling of the room. Two chairs and an oak drop leaf table make the perfect place to work or play games. And the two reclining LazyBoy chairs are a cozy place to curl up and read as the sunlight shines in the three large windows.
The bathroom is two steps outside the Oak Room door, but is only shared if the Ash Room is booked.
The beds are made up with crisp 100% cotton air dried linens, down pillows and duvets. Available upon request are wool and synthetic blankets and pillows. Bath robes are provided for your use, as are huge bath sheet towels.
Note: The Oak Room can be reserved as the Oak Room Suite for $195 for 1-3 people, by adding the adjoining room to the booking. For more than three guests, a $70 fee per person, per night will be charged for additional guests 12 years and older. The fee is $60 per night per child under 12 years. For babies in arms there is no charge. The adjoining room is 250 square foot and can only be accessed through the Oak Room, making it ideal for families with children or guests who want to have a separate sitting room. It contains an antique three quarter bed and an antique spool spindle day bed. It also contains a modern crib that meets AAP safety standards and a small trundle bed suitable for a small child. There is a one time $25 fee to set up the trundle bed. This large room is a delight for children, as they can play with the wooden toys, dolls and stuffed bears as well as a rocking horse. WiFi is available throughout the house. You can also watch TV or play one of the many board games that the family has gathered over the years.
You may want to borrow one of the Classics from the bookcase and kick back in a lounge chair to read.
Or take your reading material onto one of the three porches to enjoy the fresh country air.
The screen porch allows outdoor sitting without the bugs while you watch the birds and butterflies feed on the many flowers in the backyard.
The wide wrap around front porch with rocking chairs and porch swing is a serene place to sit as you watch Amish buggies drive by and horses graze in the pastures in the valley.
The back porch is an ideal place to watch the birds and wildlife in the woods or enjoy the sight and sound of the fountain in the small pond or the water as it trickles down the waterfall on the hillside behind the house.
Enjoy a nature/camping/hunting experience without having to sleep outside:
Walk the many paths through 15 acres of woods while you look for deer, fox, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, wild turkeys and groundhogs, as well as wild flowers and mushrooms.
Or cross country ski the paths in winter.
Follow the Bluebird Trail and check out the nesting boxes to see the eggs and baby bluebirds up close.
Roast marshmallows or hot dogs around the campfire the woods just a short walk up the hill behind the house.
Enjoy a picnic in the shady grove or take a moment to enjoy the patio located in the woods behind the house.
Outdoor games are available such as cornhole, ladder golf, bocce ball, foursquare, ring toss, molkky, Frisbee golf...
Hunters can enjoy a comfortable bed and be only five minutes away from Mohler Wildlife Area and the Mohican forrest, state hunting grounds located nearby.
During your stay
As history lovers and world travelers, we love to share time and stories with our guests about our area and theirs. However we realize that not everyone wants to converse, so we also respect your wish for privacy.

Be pampered and served as your relax and sit at the kitchen table to eat and watch the many birds that come to the feeders just outside the window.
Or enjoy your meal on the screen porch as you listen to Jeremiah, our resident bull frog, croak at you from his pond next to the porch.
For a more formal ambience, when there are many guests, your breakfast is served in the formal dining room where the table made from a cherry tree from the Luftberg Farm woods can extend to twenty feet!
You may choose to participate in your breakfast by picking fresh raspberries from the garden to include with the meal. Fresh rhubarb and asparagus are often on the menu too! Enjoy pancakes or waffles served with locally sourced maple syrup made in the spring at a neighbor's sugar shack. Homemade bread, still warm, served with Ruth's peach, raspberry and blackberry jams, or fresh coffee cakes and cobblers may also be offered. If you are into lighter fare, start your day with Ruth's favorite: fresh fruit, granola and yogurt or tapioca pudding.
Coffee, tea, cocoa and cookies are available 24/7 in the Butler's Pantry.
Special dietary restrictions or food allergies may be accommodated with advance notice at the time of your reservation.
Arrangements for breakfast should be made upon check in. Other times may be accommodated by special arrangement, but normal serving times are between the hours of 7am and 9am, a common time being chosen so all guests can eat together.
Our guests eat European style at common tables where they can enjoy conversing with other guests unless privacy is requested.
We request that if it is necessary to cancel your reservation you do so in a timely fashion so that the room may be re-booked. While we are understanding when sometimes a last minute change in plans is unavoidable, we cannot typically afford to have a room empty due to a last minute cancellation.
We reserve the right to switch our guest's reservation to a room of equal or higher value. If this is not agreeable, the guest should state so upon booking the room.
Our normal check in time is between 4pm and 6pm. Please let us know what time you plan to arrive. If you need to check in at a different time, we can make arrangements for you to do so if you let us know ahead of time.
