Deanburn Barn is a cosy, straw bale barn which sits nestled at the end of a private drive on the edge of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. It provides a unique, rural retreat for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers wishing to get away from it all. Sitting amongst beautiful, ancient beech trees, our cosy, straw bale barn is an ideal place to come and relax and to leave the world behind. The barn is detached and is surrounded by trees, open fields and the sound of birds and running water.

The space
Our straw bale barn is a unique and cosy space which welcomes you in to its peaceful interior. The thick straw and cob walls are curved and organic, and we have retained the barn's character whilst providing many modern comforts such as underfloor heating in the kitchen and wet room; Wi-Fi, SMART TV, a wood burning stove and washing and drying facilities in an adjoining timber building. The water supply comes from a natural spring and comes through the tap UV filtered, clean and beautifully fresh to drink. A wooden staircase and oak walkway take you from the open-plan lounge upstairs into the sanctuary of the bedroom where large Velux windows offer views of sky, treetops, woodland and neighbouring fields where our horses happily graze. There is a feeling of light, calm and quiet upstairs and it is the perfect place to sit and relax after a day on the moor.

Location

Devon, England, United Kingdom

This is a truly rural, edge of moorland location and the barn sits within an ancient beech woodland which used to form part of the Hayford Estate.
The Tradesman's Arms in Scorriton is our nearest pub and they serve good pub food and local ales. It is within walking distance but once again we can drop off or pick up if needed as it is just 2 miles by road.
We have a springer spaniel named Jack and two cats called Alfie and Pebbles. We also have horses and a small herd of Boer goats.

Hi, I'm Michael and I have lived in this beautiful part of the world since I moved here in 1992. I am a retired headteacher trying my hand at building bespoke shepherd's huts and I love creating things out of wood. I live with my wife Caroline and we have two grown up children who are currently studying at university. My wife is a teacher at a local primary school and we both love living up here on Dartmoor with it's rugged and beautiful landscape. We enjoy road cycling, walking and being outdoors.

During your stay
The barn is detached and completely independent and has its own key box so that you can come and go as you please during your stay. It also has its own car parking space. We will leave a small selection of items to welcome you to the barn including milk, tea, coffee and sugar. We live in the coach house across the garden from the barn, and we are more than happy to help should you need anything. Otherwise, we will leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday.
We are keen road cyclists and may be able to offer help with route planning and the all important cafe stops. We also offer drop offs and pick-ups should you wish to take advantage of the many popular cycling and walking routes in the area. Please enquire when you arrive or when making a booking. We also offer secure bike storage facilities should you need it.
