The Space

Gleann Oir B&B - Large bedroom with a double and single bed and your own private bathroom in a period 1930s house. The house is 10 mins bus ride or drive to city centre or a 30 mins walk. The walk is along the seafront and is rather scenic and refreshing.
We have wireless internet. The house is a large 7 bed house but we only let out one bedroom to guests. Because we are a large big house, you can have your privacy if that is what you want. The street is a quiet tree lined street with many houses from the turn of the last century. The neighborhood is popular with walkers and you will meet lots of people out walking alone or with their dogs at all hours of the day and night. The most attractive aspect of our house is that we have a sea view but are a few streets away from the main sea front, so we have the view without the traffic. Our street is very quite. I am a mature student at the local university studying digital media. My husband works in insurance. We have two boys aged 14 and 17. In the past, we lived in London for 15 years. When I was single, I lived in New York for 4 years. Mairead

  • Great stay. From a very friendly greeting at the front door to when leaving after a 4 night stay all was good. A bedroom you could have a dance in and bathroom big enough for a soccer team? Location was good just for strolling along the Sea front and into Salthill itself.Bus stop very close by good to get into Galway itself. A small separate kitchen and fridge with breakfast "stock" was provided which was very thoughtful even if not used to the max!
Mairead..James and the lads all good company and very easy to get along with.Would not hesitate to recommend .

  • We really enjoyed meeting Mairead and staying at her home. The room is exactly as described in the listing. It is in a great location - quiet, safe, close to the beach and a nice walk to town. Mairead was very friendly and accommodating, and gave great tips on things to do and places to eat. Galway was the first stop on our trip to Ireland, and Mairead's home set a very high standard for everywhere else we stayed. I definitely recommend it.

  • We arrived really tired from our long journey and Mairead made us feel welcome immediately. She is an intelligent, friendly and very helpful lady. It was great to share conversations with her and through her we found a great direction in our family history research. Thank you Mairead.

The house is in a lovely quiet neighbourhood and a short walk to the Salthill promenade and the many and varied restaurants, cafes and stores in Salthill. It took us around 35 minutes for an easy walk into town from the house. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the sole use bathroom has an excellent shower with good amenities. Tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, local information and a great breakfast all add up to a great stay. We certainly hope to return in the future.

  • Mairead & her family are extremely generous & gracious hosts. I really enjoyed my breakfast (delicious) and nighttime time chats with Mairead. She also had many recommendations for things to see and places to eat nearby. She booked two wonderful tours for me to Connemara & the Cliffs of Moher/Burren landscape (amazing).

Her home is cozy and adorable on a quiet, private street but only a block away from the beach. This was my first time to Ireland & it was basically perfect. I will definitely return to Mairead's in the future :)

  • My sister and I had a lovely time at Mairead's. It's a beautiful historical house right by the sea and the room and bathroom were really nice and extremely clean. Mairead was really hospitable. She picked us up from the bus station, offered to take our luggage to the locksmith when we couldn't find the keys and even put my wet shoes into her drier! Couldn't ask (email hidden). Would definitely recommend!

  • Mairead was nice and the house was beautiful with a great location. The bedroom was spacious as well as the bathroom. The electronic blanket was a very welcome, as there was no heating on in the bedroom or in the bathroom.

    Response from Mairead:

Hi Eija, sincere apologies about the cold bedroom and bathroom. We had run out of oil for the central heading. As it was a bank holiday weekend, we hadn't had a chance to replace the oil. Normally, we have the central heating on for an hour in evening and morning which seems to be enough. The last person staying in your room complained that it was too warm and they asked to turn off the radiators. Hopefully, it didn't spoil your time with us too much. Mairead

  • Short and oh so sweet! Mairead was such (email hidden) and a lovely woman. Hearty breakfast in the porch sunlight, jumbo bedroom + bath, and the location along Salt Hill was perfection. Do it. xx

  • Highly recommended. Mairead and her family are amazing hosts (so were Westie and Twix like others have said). Beautiful home and room, modern and spacious private bathroom, and parking and Wifi if you have to do a little unfortunate work/school during the trip like me. Mairead was a joy to talk to, and had so much information about the local area and restaurants that really made our trip. She recommended we climb Diamond Hill in Connemara (roughly 1.5 hrs away), and at least for me it was the highlight or our trip, better than the touristy Cliffs of Moher. There was just a happy atmosphere to our whole week in Ireland thanks to this stay. A must choose if visiting Galway!

  • My friend and I stayed at Mairead's home on a weekend visit to Galway. We loved our stay - the bedroom was a good size and the bathroom was one of the best I have seen! It is in a lovely area in Salthill, walking distance to the Salthill village and not too far to walk into Galway city. I would definitely recommend staying here, and I plan to go book again when I return to Galway.
