Gleann Oir B&B - Large bedroom with a double and single bed and your own private bathroom in a period 1930s house. The house is 10 mins bus ride or drive to city centre or a 30 mins walk. The walk is along the seafront and is rather scenic and refreshing.
We have wireless internet. The house is a large 7 bed house but we only let out one bedroom to guests. Because we are a large big house, you can have your privacy if that is what you want. The street is a quiet tree lined street with many houses from the turn of the last century. The neighborhood is popular with walkers and you will meet lots of people out walking alone or with their dogs at all hours of the day and night. The most attractive aspect of our house is that we have a sea view but are a few streets away from the main sea front, so we have the view without the traffic. Our street is very quite. I am a mature student at the local university studying digital media. My husband works in insurance. We have two boys aged 14 and 17. In the past, we lived in London for 15 years. When I was single, I lived in New York for 4 years. Mairead
The place is in a dream location for couples or for those who want to enjoy relaxing walks by the beach.
I am Irish, so I knew to stay a little away from Quay Street and the centre. Both of these are walking distance so long as you don't mind stretching your legs for 30 minutes.
Breakfast was yoghurt, juice, scrambled eggs with bagels and lovely tea.
Mairead is a lovely host who will make you feel at home. The room is spacious and bright, with everything you need and more, like a hair dryer for my wife, and extra mirrors, toiletries for herself.
You won't regret staying here, thanks again Mairead!!
Oh how delightful was our 2 nights stay with Mairead. I booked with Mairead based on the reviews and the location, which was in Salthill. I wanted to away from the big city. There was a very convenient bus stop near her home. I had another friend that stayed at the Salthill Hotel and it was so close - like going down a driveway. The room at Mairead's home was lovely and the beds are the best we had slept on during our week long stay at other places. The home is so lovely and inviting and Mairead is gracious. The food was excellent. I loved the trees around her home. We felt like we were in the country - so quiet and peaceful. We had fun in the city and went to the Museum recommended by Mairead. our experience was so much better than we had at a hotel. We loved it!
We enjoyed the warm, cosy and personal atmosphere at Mairead (pronounce like parade with m). She is very friendly and helpful. At arrival we were explained everything we needed to know - including tips for our trip to Galway.
The room itself looks better than shown on the pictures. The bathroom is very spacious. Next time we come to Galway, we will book here again.
Mairead and Jame's home was beautiful. A very relaxing, quiet neighborhood. When I arrived their youngest was so nice to help me with my suitcase. Every morning I had my coffee and toast waiting for me. James was so nice to take me to town a few times to save me bus trips. One morning in particular I was running late for the bus to Headford and he got me to the bus station on time! It felt like home being greeted every morning and evening by Westie, their dog, and Crunchy, their kitty! Being by the sea was wonderful.
We had a very special time in Galway staying at Mairead and James' lovely, comfortable family home. The hospitality we will never forget! The walk into town along the seafront is a delightful stroll even in a fresh, bracing 'breeze' off the bay! And Galway town is a welcoming, vibrant place....colourful and cosy with plenty of watering holes to listen to local musicians and watch the showers pass outside!
Thanks Mairead, all our best wishes to your family.

Mairead was the absolute perfect host! She was very friendly and welcoming and didn't bat an eye when we changed our plans at the last minute and brought an extra guest. She was a wealth of information about the surrounding area and gave us great eating and entertainment advice. The house itself is super close to the beach and just a quick walk to downtown Galway. We had a lovely stay!
Staying at Mairead's home was a relaxing experience. She was very helpful and made great eggs for us in the morning! The location of the home is very convenient and walking distance to the bus, a park, the ocean, and delicious restaurants. I would recommend the "Black Cat" tapas restaurant downtown -amazing food and wine selections(10 min walk from the house). The bedroom and bathroom are very clean and the bed comfortable after a long day of walking!
Thank You Mairead
Mairead and James were both very welcoming and I was grateful to be able to use their personal PC.
Mairead was an absolutely lovely host!! The bathroom was amazing and the beds were the most comfortable of our entire trip. It was challenging to get out of them in the morning :) her breakfast was way better than the "real" B&B we stayed at the night before, and she is very charming :) so is Westie!
Would definitely stay again if in Galway :) (€7 cab ride from town centre! And free parking ;) )
Mairead and James have a lovely home which they share with their guests in a warm and friendly way. The bedroom was large, bed very comfy and the electric blanket a godsend on the freezing 2 nights we were there. Bathroom fabulous with great shower and lovely deep bath to soak away the chill. Breakfasts were great, with a choice of foods and plenty to eat. Mairead is very helpful with information about Galway and suggestions of places to visit and things to do. The overall experience here was one of feeling more like an old friend being made welcome, rather than strangers arriving after having never met before. I would recommend this lovely B&B to anyone who wants a home away from home in Galway.
