Seaside - B&B Double Room+Wi-Fi

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Rockbarton, Galway, County Galway, Ireland

The Space

Gleann Oir B&B - Large bedroom with a double and single bed and your own private bathroom in a period 1930s house. The house is 10 mins bus ride or drive to city centre or a 30 mins walk. The walk is along the seafront and is rather scenic and refreshing.
We have wireless internet. The house is a large 7 bed house but we only let out one bedroom to guests. Because we are a large big house, you can have your privacy if that is what you want. The street is a quiet tree lined street with many houses from the turn of the last century. The neighborhood is popular with walkers and you will meet lots of people out walking alone or with their dogs at all hours of the day and night. The most attractive aspect of our house is that we have a sea view but are a few streets away from the main sea front, so we have the view without the traffic. Our street is very quite. I am a mature student at the local university studying digital media. My husband works in insurance. We have two boys aged 14 and 17. In the past, we lived in London for 15 years. When I was single, I lived in New York for 4 years. Mairead

  • Short and oh so sweet! Mairead was such a a gracious host and a lovely woman. Hearty breakfast in the porch sunlight, jumbo bedroom + bath, and the location along Salt Hill was perfection. Do it. xx

  • My friend and I stayed at Mairead's home on a weekend visit to Galway. We loved our stay - the bedroom was a good size and the bathroom was one of the best I have seen! It is in a lovely area in Salthill, walking distance to the Salthill village and not too far to walk into Galway city. I would definitely recommend staying here, and I plan to go book again when I return to Galway.

  • I absolutely loved my accommodations in Galway! The room is large, beautifully decorated, with an amazing double bed/single bed and the bathroom is quite large with a shower and tub, which is very unusual in Ireland!
Also, the location is fabulous. There's a seaside view in the lovely Salthill neighborhood. Within minutes of walking, you are on the seaside promenade, which is a beautiful way to walk to Galway city centre.
The best part about my stay here, though, would gave to be Mairead and her wonderful family! They picked me up at the train station, gave me rides into town, and provided a gorgeous breakfast every morning!
This stay was the highlight of my trip to Ireland! It is highly recommended!

  • Mairead's house was wonderful and she made an excellent breakfast. I would recommend it to everyone. Great bed and nice bathroom. Only a 20 minute walk to the center of town and a 10 minute walk to dinner. Thanks for everything Mairead!!!

  • I had an absolutely wonderful time at Maireads. James cooked a monster Irish breakfast for me and provided me with all the information one would need for a trip to Galway. Delightful hosts, house and location. Will be going back. Can highly recommend.

  • The place is in a dream location for couples or for those who want to enjoy relaxing walks by the beach.
I am Irish, so I knew to stay a little away from Quay Street and the centre. Both of these are walking distance so long as you don't mind stretching your legs for 30 minutes.
Breakfast was yoghurt, juice, scrambled eggs with bagels and lovely tea.
Mairead is a lovely host who will make you feel at home. The room is spacious and bright, with everything you need and more, like a hair dryer for my wife, and extra mirrors, toiletries for herself.
You won't regret staying here, thanks again Mairead!!

  • Oh how delightful was our 2 nights stay with Mairead. I booked with Mairead based on the reviews and the location, which was in Salthill. I wanted to away from the big city. There was a very convenient bus stop near her home. I had another friend that stayed at the Salthill Hotel and it was so close - like going down a driveway. The room at Mairead's home was lovely and the beds are the best we had slept on during our week long stay at other places. The home is so lovely and inviting and Mairead is gracious. The food was excellent. I loved the trees around her home. We felt like we were in the country - so quiet and peaceful. We had fun in the city and went to the Museum recommended by Mairead. our experience was so much better than we had at a hotel. We loved it!

  • We enjoyed the warm, cosy and personal atmosphere at Mairead (pronounce like parade with m). She is very friendly and helpful. At arrival we were explained everything we needed to know - including tips for our trip to Galway.
The room itself looks better than shown on the pictures. The bathroom is very spacious. Next time we come to Galway, we will book here again.

  • Mairead and Jame's home was beautiful. A very relaxing, quiet neighborhood. When I arrived their youngest was so nice to help me with my suitcase. Every morning I had my coffee and toast waiting for me. James was so nice to take me to town a few times to save me bus trips. One morning in particular I was running late for the bus to Headford and he got me to the bus station on time! It felt like home being greeted every morning and evening by Westie, their dog, and Crunchy, their kitty! Being by the sea was wonderful.

    Response from Mairead:

That was such a nice review. Thank you so much. Hope you have settled back to normal life and that your family tracing goes well.

  • We had a very special time in Galway staying at Mairead and James' lovely, comfortable family home. The hospitality we will never forget! The walk into town along the seafront is a delightful stroll even in a fresh, bracing 'breeze' off the bay! And Galway town is a welcoming, vibrant place....colourful and cosy with plenty of watering holes to listen to local musicians and watch the showers pass outside!
Thanks Mairead, all our best wishes to your family.
