Description

The space

Gleann Oir Double Room.
Breakfast is not provided. Bedroom is large with a double bed, bedside lockers and a desk. It comes with its own private ensuite bathroom in a period 1930s house. The house is 10 mins bus ride or drive to city centre or a 30 mins walk. The walk is along the seafront and is rather scenic and refreshing.
We have wireless internet. The house is a large 7 bed house but we only let out one bedroom to guests. Because we are a large big house, you can have your privacy if that is what you want. The street is a quiet tree lined street with many houses from the turn of the last century. The neighborhood is popular with walkers and you will meet lots of people out walking alone or with their dogs at all hours of the day and night. The most attractive aspect of our house is that we have a sea view but are a few streets away from the main sea front, so we have the view without the traffic. Our street is very quite. I am a mature student at the local university studying digital media. My husband works in insurance. We have two boys aged 17 and 20. In the past, we lived in London for 10 years. When I was single, I lived in New York for 4 years. Mairead

Guest access

You will be the only guests in the house as we only let one room in the house.

Interaction with guests

I work full time, so I will not be around during the day. I may not be available to let you in, but I will arrange for you to get access to the house when I am not around.

Getting around

We are only 5 minutes walk from a bus stop that will take you into town. Journey time 15 mins into town.

It was exactly as represented. A very spacious room with a large, comfortable bed, private bathroom with a wonderful walk-in shower, and a desk for working. An electric pump provided plenty of pressure for showering. The bed has an electric mattress warmer, but I didn't need it as the weather was fantastic during my stay. Just a few minutes walk to the beach and another few to the shopping and dining area. Mairead also provided plenty of help choosing areas to visit. I would definitely repeat should I return to the area.

Mairead is wonderful! So easy to communicate and let me check in a bit early since I arrived before 3pm. The room is exactly as pictured and the area of Salthill is beautiful! The walk in to town takes you along the Galway bay coast and is super easy to navigate.

Mairead greeted us upon arrival. Shortly after we arrived, my mom discovered she left her purse at a petrol station. Mariread jumped right in asked us questions and helped us determine which petrol station we stopped at so we could go back and get it. She made great recommendations for food and things to do and see in the area. The room was clean and spacious. She even had a fire going in our room when we arrived which was a very nice touch!

We loved everything! A very beautiful house! The room is comfortable with a huge bed, and the most pleasant thing is that the bed is electrically warmed. There is a separate bathroom close to the room. A nice kitchen with a big oval table on the ground floor where we had breakfast and drank tea in the evening. We really liked Galway, starting from the sea air and the promenade! We walked from the house to the Galway centre and came back home in the evening along the sea path, enjoying beautiful old buildings and small streets. There are a lot of tourist shops, cafes and restaurants. We are grateful to Brid - Mairead's sister. She was very nice and hospitable to us. She helped us to call the taxi to the airport! Excursion to Cliffs of Moher left a very pleasant impression to us. We really recommend this place in Galway to everybody, and we would like co come back to this amazing place ourselves!

I cannot say enough about how good Mairead and James were to me during my stay. They were very engaging and helpful, and extremely kind and generous. They were quick to offer tea and food and I was able to help myself to breakfast foods. The room itself is gorgeous, as is the entire home. The location is also lovely, right up from the Salthill promenade. It is just far enough outside the city center to have its own feel but close enough to comfortably walk. Truly a fantastic experience! Wonderful hosts and a wonderful place!

This is a lovely house in the Salthill neighbourhood of Galway. It is in a quiet area - and well located for easy access to Galway city center and travel to other nearby attractions. Mairead and James, and other family members, were very welcoming and provided many helpful tips and suggestions on restaurants and city/regional activities/attractions. They also provided breakfast and snacks for our day trips to Connemara National park. This was a very enjoyable stay and Mairead and James were very gracious and kind hosts. Thank you! Dan and Karen

Also my second booking via airbnb hit the mark! Again, we couldn't have choosen better for the two nights we spent in Galway. The house is perfectly located in Salthill near the promenade and a lovely Park. And it was really easy to get there via bus 401 leaving ouside the railway station. Our room was really nicely decorated as you would expect it for a house near the beach, it was a perfect fit. Bathroom was huge, modern and perfectly clean. Mairead had lots of good stuff in stock for any kind of breakfast, we couldn't have asked for more. Mairead and her husband James always had the time for a chat and useful infos on restaurants, pubs, tours (Lally Tours is really recommendable) and helped me booking our train to Dublin online. On our last day her husband even took us to City with his car, which is something he definitely has not do do! Thank you Mairead and James for this wonderful stay at your place. We really enjoyed our stay with you. We can only recommend this place and for sure nobody will ever regret having spent his time in Galway here.

Mature Student with two grown up boys. I work in IT. I recently went back to college as a mature student to complete a degree in mathematics and a masters in Digital Media. My husband works in insurance. I so enjoy meeting new people and having interesting conversations with them. I particularly like house-guests that are self-sufficient and like to get on with exploring the best Ireland has to offer.
