1930s house in a quiet tree lined street, only moments from the seafront with one of the longest boardwalks on the West coast of Ireland. We are a family of 4 with two teenage boys. Our mission is to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable.
Gleann Oir B&B - Large bedroom with a double and single bed and your own private bathroom in a period 1930s house. The house is 10 mins bus ride or drive to city centre or a 30 mins walk. The walk is along the seafront and is rather scenic and refreshing.
We have wireless internet. The house is a large 7 bed house but we only let out one bedroom to guests. Because we are a large big house, you can have your privacy if that is what you want. The street is a quiet tree lined street with many houses from the turn of the last century. The neighborhood is popular with walkers and you will meet lots of people out walking alone or with their dogs at all hours of the day and night. The most attractive aspect of our house is that we have a sea view but are a few streets away from the main sea front, so we have the view without the traffic. Our street is very quite. I am a mature student at the local university studying digital media. My husband works in insurance. We have two boys aged 14 and 17. In the past, we lived in London for 15 years. When I was single, I lived in New York for 4 years. Mairead
We had a great time at Mairead's B&B. The listing is accessible to the center city by bus (the 401 I believe). Salthill is a really nice area and the water is less than 5 minutes away. The bedroom itself is really nice. It is spacious and comfortable and having a private bathroom was also great. Mairead was very kind and took time to give us advice on where to go and even dropped us off in the city when we left. She made breakfast for us in the morning which was awesome. I would definitely recommend staying at Mairead's, it is one of the best places I have stayed at so far.
We had such a nice stay with Mairead, her family, dog, and cat. Everyone was very welcoming. For my daughter and I, it was the perfect location - a 20-minute walk from Salt Hill into the center of Galway. Although, in early March is was a windy walk on the way back (good to burn off those extra pints). The house has a perfect layout, with plenty of privacy and a nice, bright breakfast space - with a very nice array of continental style breakfast choices, great jams and bread, and good coffee (very important since I come from Seattle - we're all about coffee there).
Lovely friendly welcome; warm inviting house close to the prom. Highly recommended.
Mairead and her husband Jim were very pleasant and welcomed us to their lovely home and made us feel very comfortable. Their son Shamus was very polite and their adorable westy dog Wolfy was well mannered and loved attention which I was gladly able to give, we love dogs. Their location was very good to the town center and very accessable especially by a small tram that took you all over the town center. Very clean room and bathroom and beautiful. If we every come this way again we would gladly stay with their family again.
Mairead, as well as her family, and house are both warm and welcoming. The house is located in a lovely neighborhood. It is just a short walk to the seaside promenade. In just 30 minutes time you can have a scenic stroll to downtown Galway. She had many tips to give us and had a wonderful breakfast spread in the morning. She helped make our stay in the Emerald Isle a memorable one.
Mairaid made us feel welcome right away. Within a day we all felt like old friends. Her house is spacious and comfortable. Our rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The bathroom is large with a wonderful claw foot tub where I took a lovely bath. Mairaid made us a delicious breakfast each day, with plenty to eat. The family has a sweet dog and cat that we enjoyed. The neighborhood is within walking distance to the beach as well as the shops and restaurants in Salthill. Staying with Mairaid and James and their sons felt like we were staying with family. I recommend staying here if you desire something different than the usual impersonal experience of a hotel or typical B & B.
Mature Student with two teenage boys. I worked as a IT technical writer for 10 years in London before coming back to Galway,Ireland my home town, 10 years ago. In the 1980s, I worked New York for 4 years; first as a teacher and then as a accounts assistant with 'The New York Observer' newspaper. I particularly like house-guests that are self-sufficient but also like sharing experiences.
