About This Listing
Barrida is located in the heart of Seminyak.
As an option, you can also rent both rooms (the entire bungalow). Please see "Barrida Bungalow: 2 Bedroom Gem"
This Bungalow is located in the heart of Seminyak.
Shopping, dance spots, yoga locations and the beach are short distances away by foot or a short few minute taxi ride.
Barrida is good for semi-budget travelers who enjoy being out of their rooms, experiencing what Bali has to offer. Enjoy for a small fee ($2US) just about any hotel pool in the area.
There are over 5 places to dance salsa and 3 places that hold Milonga...weekly!
There are two ways to meet. I will use a professional driving service to pick you up and bring you to Barrida Bungalow. The charge is $25. Or, for around $13, you can take a taxi to Bintang Supermarket which is only 2 minutes walk away. I will meet you at Bintang Supermarket as taxi drivers seem not to know my place well. I live down a private street.
Interaction with Guests
I travel much so when I am home feel free to join me for yoga, dance or just hanging out. Of course you are free to come and go as you please.
The neighborhood is composed of mostly Balinese people and 4 long-term residents (Holland x 2, Italian x 1 and Australian x 1).
The reason to stay at my place:
0. Hot/cold water and A/C
1. Close to dance locations
2. Quiet yet close to the shops...action
3. Affordable which allows you to visit many more places. For example, pay $2 US at any hotel pool attendant and you can have 7 pools in a week. Why not?
4. The cleaning lady is great
5. The local neighbors are welcoming
6. You can do yoga or practice your dance just outside your room. You can have instructors come to you
7. The beds are nice and come with nets
8. When I am home I can accompany you to many places. Some people prefer to go at their own pace. That's fine, too.
9. Quiet area (There is no street noise)
From Bintang Supermarket you will find Ojek (motorbike taxis), taxis and many shops and restaurants.
Other Things to Note
Note: I cannot set seasonal prices here so please do confirm with us for high seasons: July 15~Sept 5 & Dec 15~Jan 5) and, please also leave your comments in the guest book. I would like to keep a physical Comments Book.
I look forward to seeing you :)
This bungalow is a non-smoking location and expects the following from its guests:
0. make sure trash is in plastic bags
1. The neighbors have their customs; please respect them and feel free to ask how :)
2. Please say hello to the neighbors
3. The cleaning lady works 3 hours a day. For some requests other chores may have to wait a day
4. Balinese seem to have ceremonies which require the cleaning lady to take a day off. She's good about advanced notice but there are times she's not. Feel free to ask her
5. Wifi in the form of a USB stick that plugs in your laptop. It is 1GB/month. Please limit Youtube and heavy files. there is no way to recharge the modem before. (I don't know why the telecoms companies do this. They are loosing business.)
6: Please give your wash to Kadek. She washes every two days.
7. Optional: please sign the guest book
Please enjoy your stay,
First the positive things: we were welcomed by Inge who was very friendly and helpful, and Kadek who kept the place very clean. It was practical to have a washing machine and drinking water.
What was not so great: the rooster next door making lots of noise from 3 am on what kept us from sleeping (even with earplugs). The text in the description mentioning that this is a quiet place was not accurate in our case. Also, we were expecting wifi, but this is only usable with laptop and not for smartphones.
This is true. The wifi is an option in Airbnb. If we don't offer connection to wifi then we loose customers since it seems we don't provide connection. So, we must choose the "wifi" option. The text in the profile states that there is a USB model that connects to your laptop. About the roosters. As in the text, we live next to local people. It just so happened that the owner of the place bought two more fighting cocks and place them on the other side of the fence. Which is basically his living room.
Bali is an island with a lot of nature. Hotels provide quiet environments. But, that does not guarantee that the owner of the land next door won't decide to put a pig farm in his side of the land tomorrow.
So, in order to be a good host, I offer the customer the option to propose some actions on my side that will make them happy. I did offer to make things better but Ronja never voiced up.
Everybody. Please read the reviews and please read the profile. I hope everybody has a good stay in my place.
I write this from magical Ubud where I hear a few monkeys in the distance and a rooster two doors down from the guest house where I stay.
The bungalow was great, I had everything I needed and Matt and Inge were very helpful in the lead up an during my stay.
I was in the far room and the bed was extremely comfy! I have a bad back so that was important. The aircon worked well and there was a lockable wardrobe for my passport etc.
The house is based close to the supermarket so it was easy to get pulsa (credit) and there were many great food and massage places. There is safe water in the house and a washing machine.
I didn't spend much time there but it was an excellent base for my stay in Bali with lovely neighbours and easy access and parking for the scooter. I felt secure and happy, the locals are beautiful.
I would def come back, in fact I would love to live in Bali after that experience so I couldn't give Matt, Inge, Kadek better feedback. Blessings.
Baridda Bungalow was a home away from home, Matt, Inge and Kadek are all lovely people (though i haven't met matt personally, he's been very helpful with every questions that i had) they made my Bali trip very enjoyable, I will definitely stay at Baridda again if i were to return to Bali anytime soon
Inge was worried that the neighbours might be too noisy for us, maybe to a few light sleeper but we feel just right at home, thank you for letting us stay at Baridda, we left a few beautiful shells that we've picked up from the beach, home that might add to the decorations :)
My stay at Barrida Bungalow was a life-changing experience, and I mean that in the best of ways. I found myself immersed in the "Balinese experience," which was very unlike anything that I would have found in some soulless hotel. Yes, there are roosters, and dogs barking and children playing, but it's rich and colorful and surprisingly comforting. The bungalow itself is lovely and charming and tidy and immediately felt like home. Of course, part of that was Inge, who's delightful and very thoughtful. She was quick to help in any way that she could (I asked her about a hair drier and she happily came up with one). And Kadek, who came around everyday to clean and do laundry, was utterly charming and a joy to be around. And I shall never forget the birds singing in the morning (along with the roosters, of course). Sounds such as I'd never heard before. And when it's quiet, it's very quiet, because the bungalow, though it's only a couple of blocks from what appeared to be the Rodeo Drive of Bali, was untouched by traffic noise or any other kind of noise from the teeming tourist crowd. Yes, it was very much a "Balinese experience" nestled among the local population, with all of it's authentic charms. Oh, yeah. I almost forgot about Matt. Sorry, Matt. Though I didn't have the opportunity to meet him, we exchanged many emails and he was not only quick to respond to any question, but was also very sweet and thoughtful. A sterling gentleman. If I should ever return to Seminyak, I would hope to once again stay at Barrida Bungalow. It was extraordinary.
It was a great pleasure to stay in your house, i felt like a princess in her castle! Many thanks for having me and being so helpful during my entire stay! Your house has the perfect location in the heart of Seminyak but yet in a peaceful surrounding, away from the busy streets. Your neighbours are truly friendly people and gave me a welcoming feeling. I also want to thank Inge and Kadek for making my stay easy, relaxed and perfect!
I would definitely recommend your house to other people, it's just wonderful!
Thank you again for having me in your house!
Perfect location. Very accommodating. Clean. Free Laundry. Great Price. I lived in Bali in different spots over the past 7 years, and I was amazed to find such a great place at such a great price. Highly Recommended. Thanks Kadek, Inge and Matt!

About the Host, Matt
Hi fellow yogis and dancers. I came from wrestling (like judo) to dance 5 years ago. I enjoy how yoga makes me a better dancer and how dancing helps dig deeper into yoga. I am opening my houses to like-minded people who want a nice stay while they are in Bali/Seattle. Come and enjoy The Land of the Gods and The Emerald City.
When not in Bali/Seattle I am in Europe, Japan or floating around SE Asia. I teach tango and salsa and indulge in yoga to free my mind and re-tune my body. When not having fun I am consulting some government agencies: no wonder they call me DiploMatt in the dance scene ;)
When in Bali I am dancing 4 to 5 nights and taking 2-3 yoga classes per week and I try to fit in 1 Pilates mat class.
Mornings on the beach are my favorite but then again so is mingling with the locals next to my Bali Bungalow (Barrida)...my neighbors seem to enjoy chatting with me and my friends, and they are comfortably eager to share: they have invited us for weddings, special cultural events and to sample foods.
Since I dance much I am always up for trying something new. I have joined some of my guests (when I am home) on excursions to mountain trekking, cooking classes, etc.
Look for me at Passionate Dance Vacation with my name. :)
When in Bangkok I am 'hard at dance' just as much as when in Bali. I also like to shop and enjoy the nice street food stalls around town. Just hate MSG/Ajinomoto.
