About this listing
This beautifull studioroom is situated in a quiet area at the canal side called the "Singelgracht" in the centre of Amsterdam. The neighbourhood is called the "Plantagebuurt" and is a very green area. The house is surrounded by parcs, the zoo and lots of green places with playing grounds for children and benches to watch the canals with all the birds and boats.
There is also a famous market, the Dappermarkt, around the corner and lots of nice restaurants and bars. Little known is the nearby "citybeach" Roest where you can have a picknick on the beach, a beer around a fire and make new friends.
The Alexanderkade nr 16 is within 15 minutes reach by tram (numbers 9 and 14) from Central Station. There are trams around the corner in all the directions of town.
In front of my house you can find the red bench you see on the picture. The studio is situated in the basement, it measures approximately 30 square meters. You have your own entrance and private toilat and bathroom. The room is nicely fdecorated and there is a very comfortable doublebed. If you want to sleep in seperate beds you can also make a single bed from one of the chairs.
The livingroom has got a nice kitchen with an electric cooking plate. There is coffee, tea, suger, coffeemilk and a nice bottle of wine for you.
In the bathroom there are two washbassins and a good shower. The toilet is separated. If you need any help or onformation I, of course, can help you.
I hope to welcome you soon!
Non smoking: the apartment is a non-smoking-area. Another important rule is that you really can't throw anything through the toilet or kitchensink that doesn't belong there. Because the watersystem is lower than the canal there is a pump which is quite delicate.
For cooking there is a ceramic plate which doesn't function if there isn't a filled pot on top of it. There is an electric Bialetti percolator to make real nice coffee. No other rules except being quiet at the street when you arrive late home and to be nice to the neighbors and your host ;-)
Also gerne wieder!
Olga's place is a very nice small apartment, not far from the historic center of Amsterdam and just behind the zoo. We got a bottle of wine at the arrival and everything was perfect during our stay. Olga left some suggestions for us and was always very nice and helpful, before and during our stay at her place.
City center is half an hour by walk (Reimbrandt Plein is closer) but tram stations are 2 minutes from Olga's place: you can get 9 or 14 to go to the center and the central station (in 15 minutes, trams are quite frequent and keep running until relatively late) or 7 and 10 to go to the museum area.
Olga's place was a perfect cozy basement nest right on a canal. A little far from the city center but only a hop skip and jump away from the tram station. The bed was unbelievably comfortable!!! The only problem was that I didn't want to ever get out of bed to explore Amsterdam! I wish I could have stayed much longer!
Thanks Olga for the great stay!
Olga was very helpful in setting up the booking and handing over to Bernadette who was there to meet us. As Olga was away and they had received another booking, they offered us the option of staying in Olga's own apartment above, which was lovely, with a beautiful view of the canal and trees of the quiet neighbourhood. The city centre is top-heavy with tourists, but here it is tranquil and still just a short tram or bike ride away. Lovely.
Olga's place is very sunny, in a great location, on a canal. I was attending a conference at the Tropen Museum and so staying here was absolutely perfect. It is easily accessible by a few different trams and even though it is not the main downtown area of Amsterdam (it is a few minutes east) I found that I enjoyed this part of the city more -fewer tourists, more relaxed, but still loads of great restaurants, cafes, and views. I did not get the chance to meet Olga during my trip but she was very helpful/communicative via Airbnb email. She had everything laid out for us when we arrived and the apartment was very clean.
Had a wonderful stay in this comfortable basement canal flat. Olga - lives in the upstairs flat - welcomed us on the first day and provided us with information about Amsterdam. Coffee was provided, wine and a few snacks which was a nice surprise. There were 3 of us on a few nights and just 2 on others. This works well because there is one double bed (separate bedroom) with an single sofa bed. And another double sofa bed in living room. All were comfortable to sleep on. The location was great because we had a conference nearby. It is also walkable to the centre and with quick access to a tram. The neighbourhood is relatively quiet and seems very safe with lots of lovely place to eat (Olga has good recommendations). Had no problems with wifi. The water pump adds a bit of novelty and reminded me of being on a boat! Works fine but does make the occasional gurgling noises!
Very nice, simple but clean and comfortable appartment, great location, very serviceminded and helpful host. We will certainly return.
About the Host, Olga
I live in Amsterdam since 25 years and really love my city.I am working as a psychologist in my own studio, also in the centre of Amsterdam. When I am not working I spend time in the city, meet with friends or go outside, for long walks with my dog at the beach or at one of the nice country-side-places surrounding Amsterdam. Other things I really like to do: movies, traveling, visiting Italy or the Swiss mountains, playing tennis or cycling.
