Architect's Own Central Sydney Home

House - Entire home/apt · Little Selwyn St, Paddington, NSW 2021, Australia

The Space

Stay within walking distance of central Sydney in this architecturally designed home.

Paddington is known for its terrace apartments with wrough iron lace balconies and leafy streets, the suburb is worth exploring for its Victorian era ambience and character.
You can find interesting antique shops here, as well as numerous small art galleries featuring the works of upcoming and established artists.

You can have fun exploring the many leafy, windy streets of Paddington. Lined with 2 and 3 storey terrace homes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there is actually a interesting variety in the kinds of terraces that were designed and built. On Saturdays Paddington hosts it's famous market on Oxford St.

You will be staying in the dining centre of Sydney. The suburbs of Paddington and Surry Hills contain many of Sydney's finest restaurants. The small bar scene of Surry Hills and Darlinghurst is extremely vibrant and worth a night or two exploring.

Oxford Street is one of the main arterial routes to the city and eastern suburbs and 5 minutes walk from my home. From here the bus network will take you anywhere in the city. Circular Quay and the Opera House are 40 minutes walk through Hyde Park and some of Sydney's grandest streets.
For sports-lovers the largest parkland in the city - Moore Park, Centennial Park, Sydney Cricket Ground and Football Stadium are all 10-15 minutes walk.

  • Perfect. Just perfect. We felt as welcome as old friends (despite John not even being there). The house is a perfect blend of relaxing, quite, central, and very very cool. Nestled among the quiet victorian terraces of Paddington, but just a few streets away from the best cafe's and resturants in Sydney. For an urban city pad, you couldn't beat it. John was frankly lucky to get the house back.

    Response from John:

    Thanks Daniel
Hope to meet you next time!

  • Fantastic house, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location is fantastic, close to the heart of the city but tucked in a quiet pedestrian area so no traffic noise. A very relaxed house to enjoy the Sydney weather. If you're fortunate to rent here, you will love it.

  • Beautiful home with full amenities, great location and the house is well laid out for families of 5-6. John is extremely helpful and friendly, especially for first time visitors to Sydney. We highly recommend John's home!

  • Unbeatable location. Fantastic little organic bakery with great coffee a few doors away was a highlight.
Communication with the owner was faultless.
    We would stay again.

  • We stayed at John's house for a weekend and were absolutely thrilled! The house is amazing, brilliantly designed, full of natural light with an incredible indoor/outdoor living area. The location couldn't be better, walking distance to great shops, cafes and restaurants. Four of us were extremely comfortable and thought it was great value - for the same price as a hotel with no living space we had a wonderful home to relax in. Finally John was a brilliant host, great communication and everything was very easy to find. Thanks so much we will be back!

  • John's house is amazing and a stunning architectural showcase. Would highly recommend staying there whilst in Sydney. Great location and everything you need at the house.

John was also a perfect host with great communication, local restaurant recommendations and signs throughout the house to make a short stay hassle free.

  • I'm so glad that John's place is listed here now - I have stayed there previously and now that it is listed on Airbnb, it makes it much easier to book and pay.

Where to start? He's an architect whose last house won the award for best new house in NSW. His own home is a real showpiece for sleek, clean design that is still warm and human. (Speaking of warm, little touches like the underfloor heating in the kitchen makes waking up in winter so much nicer!)

For the price of a good double hotel room (not even the price of a suite) two couples or a whole family can stay here. Dad stayed with us on a previous trip and was just amazed at the space.

It's in a quiet street in Padidngton, walking distance to shopping, restaurants, gallerys, clubs and the city itself. The actual street is amazing as there are no cars, so the neighbours have set up gardens and sit out at night having drinks and dinner together - not the sort of interaction you normally find in the middle of the city!

The bedroom - you will never want to leave. From the comfortable kingsize bed you watch a HUGE flat screen TV, DVDs and cable right there. I love the wall-to-wall, wall-to-floor drapes that close at the press of a button....

The living areas are palatial, and open out onto a landscaped private courtyard. You could easily entertain 20 guests in total luxury here - and the huge, sleek kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. There is a separate courtyard off the kitchen which leads to a secluded spa pool. Big enough for six and wonderful fun being in there while a Sydney storm rages overhead.

This is Sydney living at its best. a multi-million dollar home at an affordable price.
