If you are looking for an intimate AirBnB host/guest experience where we all meet, share stories, and sing kumbaya, this is not for you. If you are looking for a clean, well appointed 1 bedroom 400 sq ft condo in the heart of downtown Kona where a single person can feel alone but welcome or a couple get to enjoy each other then this AirBnB Slice of Aloha is for you! At 50%+ less price per night than many of the local condos and the Marriott Courtyard, Sharaton, or Holiday Inn and in prime location, my little slice of aloha can help make a Hawaiian trip to Kona easy and budget friendly and we try really hard to allow a 5 star experience for a fraction of the cost that you would pay elsewhere.
The location in the heart of downtown Kailua-Kona walk to everything! A Non- smoking CLEAN 400 sq ft studio condo in the heart of downtown Kailua-Kona. The small condo is a very clean unit with budget accommodation prices with a lot of aloha! My condo sits off of Alii Drive between Lava Java and Bubba Gumps- WALK TO EVERYTHING in downtown Kona. The property has a pool, jacuzzi, BBQ and beautiful grounds that represent the best of Hawaii with a small beach across the street. Unit has a small kitchenette that includes a full sized new refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, blender, rice maker and microwave and very basic eating utensils- plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, cutlery. Queen bed sleeps 2, there is a sofa twin bed in case you don't want to share. Flat screen HD TV and new Air Conditioning too! Unit also has a small lanai that overlooks the pool and jacuzzi and is a lovely place for some Kona coffee or island drinks. Quiet unit on top 3rd floor in the middle so little or no foot traffic (3rd floor/walk up). Internet shared with another unit available from the lanai and public coin operated washer dryer on site. Restaurants, bars, and small beach just outside of your doorstep along with the weekly Farmer's Market. On-site FREE parking available although space may be limited after 6 PM so grab your spot early- there is overflow parking available too for $5 a day. Airport shuttle is approximately $28 for 2 people one way if you use speedi-shuttle- and make sure you pre-book- they don't take walk ups! Taxi is about $38 one way from the airport. No smoking condo complex is a unique property that really has "old Hawaii" flavor and it is in downtown Kona on Alii Drive. You are right in the downtown area and steps from beautiful water views, sunsets, and nightlife, but my unit is quiet and secluded from any noise. There are 100 units in the complex in (6) 3-story buildings and all condos are individually owned. The best part of the property is its grounds- boasting of dozens of native plants and soon to be a very very small botanical garden. Most owners take great pride in their "small slice" of Hawaii because they live on site part of the year and most of the owners keep the property maintained very well for ourselves and guests. My unit is kept clean, has some updates and we are hoping to do the bathroom in 2013 . All furnishings are Hawaiian contemporary and have much aloha. I live onsite about 4 months a year between guests and I have rented out my condo since 2004 and have enjoyed sharing Kona with many like minded travelers. I have made made major updates in 2014 and are very comfortable and compare to the Sharaton, Marriott Courtyard, and Royal Kona in comforts and design but at 50% the price and I have a small kitchenette and large refrigerator too!

I bought the studio in 2004 when I was an Ironman athlete and trained 3 months out of the year on the Big Island and I raced several Ironman World Championships in Kona. I later became a pure cyclist and today I still train on the Big Island several times a year.

Kona is my home away from home and is a pretty special place for me and it is fantastic to share a part of Hawaii with so many travelers. Owning a unit in Hawaii is expensive and we try to provide a nice clean travel option to budget minded travelers since so many options in the area can be dirty and uncomfortable or way too expensive.

I keep the studio with very basic amenities so not to over complicate things and it has exactly what you need to make a great trip comfortable. Although basic, we do try to keep quality and comfort in mind. We do not keep food or condiments in the unit between guests to avoid issues with heat, humidity, and bugs. If you plan on cooking on the BBQ you may need to bring or buy your own condiments but check first (salt, pepper, sugar, etc).

At the start of your stay you will be provided with paper towels, a small dish soap, a cleaning sponge and dish towel, 2 rolls of toilet paper, shower soap,clean linens and towels. These amenities are not replenished during your stay and the guest will need to buy products beyond the supplied inventory. If 1-2 people staying 2-3 nights, the supply should be adequate. Condo is cleaned ONLY at departure. If you have a daily/weekly cleaning need, you need to let me know an we'll see what we can arrange at the guest's expense.

Although the condo is not the Ritz, it is a lovely clean little gem and a great landing spot to visit downtown Kona, the surrounding beaches, and even a visit to the volcano- a must visit in my humble opinion. I hope to meet you through Airbnb if you choose my place but either way enjoy Kona and the Big I and its beaches, surf, history...it is a spectacular island! With much Aloha, Neva

Interaction with Guests

Unfortunately I probably won't meet you in person and we probably won't be having intimate coffee talks but that doesn't mean I don't care....I care about your Hawaiian holiday as Hawaii is so special and we all get to share this lovely paradise and I want you to have a good time. With me we will just have communications mostly as I am off island most of the time if I accept your booking but Ellen is my property manager and is on island all of the time to help with anything. Front desk check-in and check out and they are fantastic to my guests! People do meet and greet at the pool and in the lobby and its fun chatting it up with other guests and owners. If I am on island I will meet and greet you!

The Neighborhood

Walking to everything in downtown Kona including coffee, markets, pubs, restaurants, shopping, day spas etc.
Best swim beach in walking distance (5 minutes) is at Kona Pier in front of the King Kam (Courtyard) hotel. Paddle board rentals available there. I go there daily when on island for a refreshing dip. You can also swim the Ironman course from the Kona Pier and many like minded swimmers going out between 6AM and 8 AM.

Getting Around

You can walk to everything in downtown Kona from my place. There is a trolley, cabs, and bike rentals to help. A car is needed to explore on one's own time the many wonders of the island. Tours available to transport to volcano and other sites if needed.

We have internet shared with another unit, best from the lanai. The front desk can give you a code as well for internet in the lobby.

Aloha- I am excited to host you! I stay in my condo 4 months a year between guests but am likely to be off island if I have accepted your reservation. I have a great team who help me including Ellen Kjos who cleans and is a fellow owner, Hawaii Resort Management, and Kona Islander Inn Staff. We will all take care of you. I want you to have a great stay and take my reviews very seriously as we cannot meet most stays, so please know that my small home is your home while visiting and together we keep a budget friendly slice of aloha available to people like us! Its a small beautiful little abode and with your considerate stay I will keep the prices lower for all budget minded travelers who get to share my little slice of aloha.
