Petty Catwater is a true B&B providing respite where you might least expect it. We offer a beautiful space, great food and everything we can to make you think "The 20 minutes off the main highway was totally worth it!" Come enjoy the quiet beauty and taste a bit of luxury. An awesome breakfast is included.

Returning guests may contact us directly if preferred dates are not available. We can possibly welcome you even if those days are blocked.

The space
Temporary Covid Note
We will welcome you regardless of your vaccination status but if you are not vaxxed, you will not be able to come into the cottage to use the shower. Also, meals will be brought out to the space.
If you have had your shots, regular cautions apply; all amenities are available.

We try to model what we offer at Petty Catwater after the best of country inns: quiet, beautiful surroundings, beautiful space, wake-up coffee delivered to you, a fabulous breakfast and more.

Since there are no cooking facilities in the loft and we are 22 km from town at the end of a 1 km gravel road, we also offer meals prepared to your requests. Dinner can be anything from the simplest "Just a sandwich, please" to a three-course spread with a matching wine.

Our continental breakfast is included in the booking fee: juice, toast, homemade granola, yogurt and homemade preserves. Special hot breakfasts are also offered at extra cost. Also included are complimentary tea and waters in the space plus a carafe of espresso with steamed milk delivered to you in the morning.

If you arrive extra early or stay two nights, we can set up a special cooking class - shared meal preparation with you. We have done a "make you own pizza!" night many times with guests. For many years we have been hosting in-house group classes using themes from everywhere in the world. Ask what experience we can offer you.

All meals are served in the cottage dining room except as noted above (or in one of our outside dining areas if the weather is good.) Check our reviews; look at the pictures; our meals can be fabulous or simple but are always memorable and always all-inclusive. We strive to serve fresh, local and from our garden whenever we can. Tell us the meals you want when you book.

The space sleeps two adults only and is the private loft of our workshop.
We are unplugged: no television, no cellular service. We do have internet access by WiFi.

We are happy to be in the middle of nowhere and know that does not mean you must do without.

Where you’ll be

Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada

We live in a rural setting with a couple vacation properties as neighbours. Most of the time we are the only ones at the end of our beautiful country road. After years in the city we love the quiet and the natural beauty here. Note however, that we are about 10 minutes drive from the nearest restaurant/convenience store/liquor outlet. We are 20 minutes or more from town and full service.
Ours would be a perfect place to take a break in the long drive between wherevers. Maybe you can rest-up before or after doing the Bowron canoe circuit or the Mackenzie trail. Or as many have done, come for a couple nights as respite from the rest of your life.

Retired forester, now gardener, sprout grower, chef (sous ma femme) and carpenter.

I was a typical guy, happy to hang out at home. A lawn chair and a can of beer was my idea of a vacation. Then, twelve years ago, Jenn asked where I wanted to go. I offered "How about New Zealand?" She replied "How about Paris?" I suggested "Thailand?" She doubled "Paris." "Machu Picchu?" "Paris." So we went and I am hooked. We have been over five times; ten days to four months. Dunnow the reason; maybe it is the food. We were just there this winter on the riviera and wandering about. We will go again, maybe to Spain or Florence. Or maybe you can suggest somewhere else where great food is a cultural essential.

Our problem now is that we have taken on major garden projects, veggie and landscape, so we can only travel in the non-growing, non-flooding periods. Our Airbnb is a fill-in where we hope to offer some of our experience of France, Italy and Spain. Our style is to welcome you as a long-known, valued friend to whom we would always offer the best of ourselves.

During your stay

Our style is to treat everyone as if they were long-time, honoured friends; we think that everyone, regardless of who they are or how they have traveled, deserves some luxury. As this is our home we will always be on the property while you stay; if you have any questions or need anything, we are available 24/7.

A lot of the reason we decided to offer this space came from our love of good food and our enjoyment in preparing it, sharing it and serving it to friends. You can always count on something leagues ahead of highway fare and way more memorable. We sit down to dinner together, farm table style. All meals are chef's choice but, so far, we have been successful in matching guests' special needs.
The extra cost of meals is all inclusive: waters, breads, appys, main and dessert. The cost is always fair and far less than you would expect to pay at a decent restaurant. A glass of wine or a craft beer is usually included in our dinners.

Dining here is not a requirement but, if you count food as part of life's pleasures, you will always have something to score (plus or minus) instead of forgetting when you leave.
