The whole East wing of a one-in-a-million owner-built home in picturesque Maple Bay. We have spent over forty years creating our home, and now we would love to share it with you.
We live in the 32 foot diameter geodesic dome, but the hexagonal addition is almost like a separate house and will be all yours.
There is a connecting conservatory; this is where you have your breakfast, with a view out over the bay.
There is a microwave oven, fridge, coffee maker and kettle; we provide a Continental breakfast of home made granola, croissants, home made jams, and yoghurt, and we will wash your dishes! (There are no other cooking facilities, but you can do a lot with a microwave and a toaster.))
On the lower floor is a pretty bedroom (with a queen-sized bed) looking out over a landscaped garden, with a view across the sea to Salt Spring Island.
The morning sun comes up over the mountain across the sea, and when the moon is up, it shines into the bedroom window.
Next to the bedroom is the full private bathroom with shower. A hair drier is provided, as well as towels, soap, shampoo etc.
On the top floor is the living room, which doubles as a dance and art room, with a large open wooden floor, with a big screen T.V. and DVD player.
We too love to travel, and have stayed in some wonderful homes through Airbnb; we are sure you will enjoy your visit to our house, and the friendly Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island.
We are within one hour's drive of the capital city of Victoria,as well as Nanaimo, Cowichan Bay, Chemainus and its murals, Lake Cowichan and Salt Spring Island. (The ferry to Salt Spring is only 10 minutes away). The West Coast and Tofino are a within reach on a morning's drive.
There are a dozen wineries in the Cowichan Valley and several golf-courses within a 20 minute drive.
Kayaks are for rent in Maple Bay. There are whale-watching tours in Cowichan Bay (mention that you are staying with us and you will get a 10% discount), as well the ancient lawn tennis club (est.1887), about 12 minutes away.
There is a regular seaplane service flying in to Maple Bay; a quick 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. There are also local public tennis courts just down the road.
Maple Bay is a very quiet village about 8 kilometres from the local town of Duncan, the City of Totems. There is a bus service to Duncan.
From our living room we can see a Bald Eagle's nest. Deer on the lawn, racoons sneaking around at night, and even an otter visits occasionally and checks out our swimming pool!
The house is surrounded by about an acre of landscaping; lawns and flowers and rockeries and the swimming pool; you can use it all.
Behind the house is Maple Mountain Park and its hiking trails.
A short walk down to the local pub and cafe, or a short drive to excellent restaurants. It's all here!
We look forward to meeting you!
Please contact us about availability before booking and please tell us a little about yourself. Airbnb verification and a nice photo of yourself is very important and a great help......
We teach Argentine tango locally; lessons are available in our house for $40 per hour. We love to introduce people to our passion for the REAL tango!
The swimming pool, blasted out of the bedrock, is yours to enjoy.(Unheated, but warmed by the sun, and normally not in use until May).
Guests have the whole ADDITION to themselves; almost the size of a regular house. There is a separate entrance, and you will have the key; we live in the main house and will be happy to show you around the dome.
Interaction with Guests
We love to meet and chat and to get to know our guests, and w can suggest places to visit, but of course we leave it up to you as to how much...............
We've lived here for over 40 years, and have traveled to most places on Vancouver Island, but we have never found a place where we would rather live; we think this is the prettiest area of all, and the little town of Duncan (10 minutes away) has all the facilities that we need.
It is a short walk to Maple Bay beach and its Pub and Cafe, and there are other fine restaurants within a 10 minute drive.
Living on a very quiet dead-end street, with a beautiful view of the sheltered sea, gives us a wonderful, peaceful life.
There is an occasional bus from Maple Bay to Duncan, but really, a car is needed to see the area properly.
