About This Listing
We welcome you to your private suite in our home by the sea.
We live in the picturesque community of Maple Bay, on Southern Vancouver Island.
Close to seaside villages and country towns, and 1 hour from the capital city of B.C., Victoria.
The whole East wing of a one-in-a-million owner-built home in picturesque Maple Bay. We have spent over forty years creating our home, and now we would love to share it with you.
We live in the 32 foot diameter geodesic dome, but the hexagonal addition is almost like a separate house and will be all yours.
There is a connecting conservatory; this is where you have your breakfast, with a view out over the bay.
There is a microwave oven, fridge, coffee maker and kettle; we provide a Continental breakfast of homemade granola, croissants, homemade jams, and yoghurt, and we will wash your dishes!
On the lower floor is a pretty bedroom (with a queen-sized bed) looking out over a landscaped garden, with a view across the sea to Saltspring Island.
The morning sun comes up over the mountain in the distance, and when the moon is up, it shines into the bedroom window.
Next to the bedroom is the full private bathroom with shower. A hair drier is provided, as well as towels, soap, shampoo etc.
On the top floor is the living room, which doubles as a dance and art room, with a large open wooden floor, with a big screen T.V. and DVD player.
We too love to travel, and have stayed in some wonderful homes through Airbnb; we are sure you will enjoy your visit to our house, and the friendly Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island.
We are within one hour's drive of the capital of Victoria,as well as Nanaimo, Cowichan Bay, Chemainus and its murals, Lake Cowichan and Saltspring Island. (The ferry to Saltspring is only 10 minutes away). The West Coast and Tofino are a within reach on a morning's drive.
There are a dozen wineries in the Cowichan Valley and several golf-courses within a 20 minute drive.
Kayaks are for rent in Maple Bay. There are whale-watching tours in Cowichan Bay (mention that you are staying with us and you will get a 10% discount), as well the ancient lawn tennis club (1887), about 12 minutes away.
There is a regular seaplane service flying in to Maple Bay; a quick 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. There are also local public tennis courts just down the road.
Maple Bay is a very quiet village about 8 kilometres from the local town of Duncan, the City of Totems. There is a bus service to Duncan.
From our living room we can see a Bald Eagle's nest. Deer on the lawn, racoons sneaking around at night, and even an otter visits occasionally and checks out our swimming pool!
The house is surrounded by about an acre of landscaping; lawns and flowers and rockeries, and behind the house is Maple Mountain Park and its hiking trails.
A short walk down to the local pub, or a short drive to excellent neighbourhood restaurants....it's all here!
We look forward to meeting you!

Guests have the whole ADDITION to themselves; almost the size of a regular house. There is a separate entrance, and you will have the key; we live in the main house and will be happy to show you around the dome.

We've lived here for over 40 years, and have traveled to most places on Vancouver Island, but we have never found a place where we would rather live; we think this is the prettiest area of all, and the little town of Duncan (10 minutes away) has all the facilities that we need.
It is a short walk to Maple Bay beach and its Pub and Cafe, and there are other fine restaurants within a 10 minute drive.
Living on a very quiet dead-end street, with a beautiful view of the sheltered sea, gives us a wonderful, peaceful life.
There is an occasional bus from Maple Bay to Duncan, but really, a car is needed to see the area properly.
Please remove outdoor shoes when entering.

My partner and I had a lovely stay at the aptly named "amazing dome"! It's a very unique and charming home, well stocked (my partner was very excited to find that fresh croissants magically appeared EVERY morning!) and John and Linda had many great ideas of things to do in the area, while giving us our space at the same time.
We especially enjoyed how quiet and peaceful the property was, without being too far from town or restaurants. Would certainly recommend to others - the pool would be so inviting in warmer weather! Really lovely experience, thanks so much for having us!
Had a wonderful stay here. John and Linda's home is amazing. The views were fantastic and they were so accommodating, and provided delicious home made granola and freshly baked croissants and muffins for breakfast, which was a lovely surprise. Was really good to have someone there to recommend where to go and provide us with maps etc as this was our first visit to Vancouver Island.
Would definitely recommend.
I spent my 2 last nights of a 3 week road trip on Vancouver Island at the Amazing Dome with John & Linda. What a spectacular setting to end my trip. Their home environment is truly beautiful. You've got everything BC - trees, water, rock, blossoms, flowers, birds and even frogs. The private suite is more than a generous amount of space, it was very clean and comfortable. And the view .... gorgeous! They were definitely the winners for the best view from an accommodation on my trip. John & Linda were very lovely, welcoming and kind. They have interesting stories to tell, make sure you have good chats with them. I definitely recommend this accommodation. Lots to see in the area too. I would stay with them again in a heartbeat if life offers me the opportunity again.
We've had an amazing last 2 nights on Vancouver Island - thank you John & Linda for making us feel so welcome and at home. You spoilt us with homemade goodies and we loved our amazing dome experience. Thank you. Hope to see you again one day. Best wishes, Jess & Harry x
Our stay at the dome was excellent. John and Linda made us feel really welcome from the start. They were very helpful at informing us about what to do around the area without being intrusive. The setting is tranquil and beautiful. Hummingbirds! We highly recommend this spot for a getaway and we will be back for future visits.
This place feels like home! We had stayed in a few places in Canada before getting to John and Linda's amazing house, and until then we hadn't felt comfortable in any of them.
John and Linda are very welcoming, they gave us a lot of information on the local area and what there was to see and do.
John and Linda are an amazing couple and are happy to have a conversation and share their story of moving from the UK and building their fantastic house, however they are also very respectful of your privacy, never intrude and are happy to give you your own space.
We stayed here just before we got married, thinking it would be a good place to chill out and it really was, the views from the house are stunning and there are many walks and sights nearby. There's a pub a ten minute walk away that also has amazing views and it a great place to spend an evening on a balcony.
Linda's amazing breakfast is there in a morning when you wake up, fresh baked croissants are fab!
All in all a great stay and a lovely couple, would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
