My place is in the Lake Merritt / Grand Lake area, which is a very vibrant part of Oakland and very close to all forms of transportation (including 20 minute drive to/from the Oakland airport, a 20 minute walk to BART, a few blocks down the street to buses and a casual carpool into SF, and Zipcar).
The couch (in the living room) can sleep two (possibly side by side if you like to sleep CLOSE) on an L-shaped couch. One side is short than the other for those that sleep curled up. If there are two of you, you should keep this in mind. Two 5'8" or 5'9" people will not be comfortable unless one sleeps more curled than flat out.
I also have a room divider that will provide you with privacy if I am at home in my office while you are home in the living room.
Please know that this is my home and the living room isn't a sterile environment like a hotel room. My cats are all about and I may be sorting laundry in the area between my office and your living space. I will always respect if you are sleeping and the room divider helps with privacy. If you want to sleep into the late morning/afternoon, this may not be the place for you since it is not a private room. Just a warning. Most everyone has not had a problem with this arrangement, but it doesn't hurt to emphasize it. :)
I have a TV that you can hook your computer up to if you want to watch on a large(r) screen than your laptop. Either way, I have wifi.
No smoking in the apt. by virtue of the lease. You can smoke out on the sidewalk if you would like.
There are two (long-haired) cats here, so those of you that are allergic, this isn't the place for you. My cats are very friendly (well, one is neurotic, but is friendly as long as you aren't moving) - so you can expect them jumping up on the couch to say hello and maybe even a sleep mate. I'm fine with you pushing them off the couch (gently) of course, if you don't want to be bothered. I also have an adorable bearded dragon, the dogs of the reptile world. He is caged.
I will provide clean towels and linen and, of course, a blanket/pillow. I am also happy to have coffee ready to go for you in the a.m. at your request. Other than that - I really enjoy meeting new people and providing my place as a comfy and chill environment for your stop-over.
Living room (sleeping area), bathroom, kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
I interact with guest to varying degrees. Depends on my mood, depends on their mood. I'm always happy to answer questions and small talk. Much of the time, I'll hole up in my room - giving us both privacy.
What is not to love? Seriously. OK, well, there are robberies that do happen - so you have to be alert to your surroundings. But there is nowhere in Oakland that's not like that. Or San Francisco, really. I think my area is the best in Oakland. Accessible to everything fun and food.
Lots of transpo from buses to casual carpool to BART (subway). Also, Lyft and Uber and taxi.
Parking is difficult in this area. If you let me know ahead of time, I can park my car to save you a space. But this arrangement may not always be possible. This means, there may be times that you have to spend a lot of time finding parking and that parking may be blocks away. Fair warning.
The living room is yours and I really don't care if you throw your stuff all over, but tidy is nicer. Please clean up after yourself in the bathroom and kitchen. Oh boy do I have a story about a house guest and the kitchen.
Great communication, very comfy space really enjoyed her personality and ambiance.
Great place to stay. Lynn's place is spacious and nicely decorated. The couch is really comfortable. Location is pretty accessible to everything, whole foods, convenience store, restaurants and cafes. Bart is about 15 minutes in walking. The beautiful Lake Merritt is just around the corner. Lynn is friendly and welcoming. And her two adorable cats are just amazing, Pearl, the beautiful cat with white fur is super smart, it is enjoyable just to observe her moving around. I highly recommend the place.
Great stay. Friendly host. Would stay here again. Bonus points for helping me out of such a last minute jam. Thanks Lynn!
We had a great time at lynns place. The couch was super comfortable. Even though that we were two persons, we had no room issues. The appartment was very clean and Lynn was a great host! Def recommend this place.
Lynn is a friendly and helpful host who went above and beyond during my first trip to Oakland. Not only did she go out of her way to acquaint me with the city's neighborhoods, transportation, and attractions, but she even offered to help in my search for a job in the area. A true "concierge," Lynn and her charming cats will make you feel at home on the comfortable couch of her quaint and spacious home in Oakland's Adam's Point. A five minutes walk from local transit, or a twenty minute stroll into city center/BART, the area is perfect for anyone wanting to explore everything the bay has to offer.
Very hyper, yet laid-back (haha) professional who loves to meet new people!
I work in the environmental consulting field - assisting companies get into compliance and go beyond EH&S requirements. I do work from home - so if you want to sleep in, this might be a problem with me on the phone or typing. However, I'm not a "get up at 6 am" kind of gal. Let's just say I start invading the room next to yours around 8:00 am.
I live in Oakland by Lake Merritt. Love it! I get to walk around a lake filled with fauna and flora of each season. Its incredible! You will love it!!
