Vaimalo Fales offers Four Fales to book, sits in a compact landscaped property by the lagoon and mangroves. We sit at the end of a small quiet village of locals reliant on men planting in their bush garden or fishing in the lagoon and women weaving traditional mats for an income.
The lagoon has great snorkeling and easy kayaking. My Talau opposite is a great walk to the top for views of Neiafu . 2021 we hope to have our own boat for whale swims
We look forward to hosting you after COVID 19 .

The space
Bamboo Fale is our fourth fale set beside a stand of bamboo and up overlooking the mangroves and out over the lagoon. The Fale sits in the cool of large mango tree and landscaped plants. Easy access as you enter the compound. Studio style room with a deck offering a wide vista of the lagoon and sunset. Two beds...a queen and single. Tables and chairs on the deck. Cane lounge seating inside. Lots of windows for airflow and a fan. Small kitchen and own bathroom with shower and toilet. Hot water. BBQ available and seating area in the garden below. Enjoy.

Guest access
The fale is a self contained sudio unit with a kitchen area and bathroom. A laundry area is available. You are free to use the whole property and walk down to the water. Use a bbq area below. Walk along the reef at low tide to the next small island. Wander through the village.

Other things to note
This is a tropical island so come prepared with medical first aid supplies, and women bring your sanitary needs. Limited options here to buy.
Reef friendly sun block, eco friendly toiletries. Reef shoes. Snorkel and googles. We have some. Read up on Tonga tourism page and be aware of dress code and Sunday rules. And we have a super friendly dog, Malo and two cats that control the mangrove wild life.
WiFi...buy a local SIM card and buy mobile data. Sometimes SIM cards free on arrival at airport. We do have Sky TV in our lounge area you are welcome to use if you need to watch the rugby!!

And keep in touch re your arrival. I will give you my phone contact.

#The new govt domestic airline is Lulutai airlines so book with them from Tongatapu to Vava’u.

Once here relax, rejuvenate and enjoy the tranquility and your whale, turtle, fish interactions. The beauty of Vava’u is its lagoon. We have tried to create a wee retreat for you. Join us. Take care as the world comes out of covid 19 and we see you all again. Malo.

Location

Vava'u, Tonga

Vaimalo is a small village of 98 people sitting on a hill side looking out over an inner harbour of the lagoon. Planting food crops, Kava and vanilla plus weaving traditional mats by the women are the main occupations. Cruise ships anchor across from us. We look out to Mt Talau and across to Tonga Beach resort...good place for Sunday brunch. This is Paea's mother's village and he has returned here after 30 years away in NZ teaching and landscaping. . Paea has created his dream. And he will share his childhood stories. I joined him in 2017 after living and teaching for several years in Rarotonga. You are free to wander the village and along the reef.

I am a New Zealand born trained teacher who originally ventured into the Pacific...Rarotonga in the late '70's. I have lived in the Cook Islands and Niue over the past 40 years and now about to enter a new chapter in my life and have moved to Vava'u Tonga with Paea my new husband in July 2017. Look for our three Airbnb Fales/units, “Vaimalo Fale" Vaimalo Sunrise and Vaimalo Sunset both over the water. Come and stay. The main attraction is kayaking in the huge Lagoon, snorkeling, fishing, diving and swimming with the whales June-Oct-Nov. See you there for your next trip. Malo.
