The Hector Cave House, carved into the unique caldera cliff for more than 250 years, was originally used as a wine cellar (“the canava”). The traditional “canava” became a family owned summer house, which then opened its doors to share its unique character to travellers from around the world.

Within walking distance, visitors can reach all the highlights of Oia and wonder around picturesque shops, cozy restaurants and romantic caldera-view cafes. Also, the house lies a few steps from the old castle and the best viewing spot for the famous Oia sunset. Although close to local activity, the house provides peacefulness and privacy, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the marvelous view from the terrace.
The house is also 2-minutes walk away from the Public Parking Area, and 5-minutes walk away from Oia Central Bus Station, providing convenient car or bus transportations to other attractions of Santorini.
Hector Cave house can host 2-4 people, ideal for one or two couples or a company of 2-4 friends. Traditionally furnished, the house includes one bedroom with one built-in double bed and a living room area with two built-in sofa beds. The kitchen is equipped with all the facilities for self catering holidays, including microwave, refrigerator, electric hot plates, toaster, electric kettle and an espresso machine.

As my very first stay with airbnb I could not have been more pleased! Prior to the trip from the moment of inquiry in to Hector's Cave up to and throughout our travel Giannis was extremely helpful and provided so much useful information and suggestions to make our travel to and from Santorini (as well as Athens and about) as easy as possible. I think we followed all of his itinerary suggestions! He has a wealth of knowledge and anyone considering his home should definitely seek it out. We had an early flight to Santorini and Giannis allowed us to leave our luggage in home while it was being cleaned so we didn't have to drag it around with us as we explored the island. The house was exactly as presented on line and was absolutely lovely. Giannis was easy to reach and very prompt to respond to any and all queries (even provided his father's number with whom I had the pleasure of talking when we couldn't reach Giannis.) Only regret was not getting to meet him in person after so much interaction on line and by phone. Highly recommend Hector's Cave; perfect location and wonderful host!
The Hector Cave House was beyond amazing. Giannis was a great host and was easy to contact with any questions. The cave house was in a perfect location, close to restaurants and off of the main walkway. It was clean, bright, it had amazing views, and a great patio area. We did not want to leave this amazing place! Would definitely recommend to anyone and can't wait to stay here again! :)
Giannis is an absolute gem- a perfect and gracious host. He was so extremely helpful and went above and beyond for us. Nikos and Natasha, the caretakers, are also so wonderful.
The cave house is a magical piece of the paradise that is Oia. The location is magnificent, just a few steps away from all the good stuff. Our two small children loved the house and made friends with all the neighbours and shopkeepers. We would definitely stay here again without hesitation.
Giannis was a great host..he checked in with us peridocally during our 10 day stay.
We stayed at this place for 4 nights. Giannis was very easy to contact, arranged transfer from the ferry port and met us to take us to the house. The views are incredible, exactly as the pictures show or even better. We enjoyed eating breakfast every morning sitting on the patio with the incredible view. The place is very cozy and was the perfect size for the two of us. The location is very convenient close to the supermarket and center of town and just a few steps from the perfect viewing spot for the sunsets! My bf and I were thrilled with this place. the only downside was that we couldn't have the heater/ac running while we showered or else the electrcity/hot water would shut off but after the first couple of times we figured out how to avoid it. Would definetely stay here again!
Amazing location. Super close to the castle ruins. Wonderful to wake up grab some tea and walk out the door and watch the sunrise. I did not want to leave. Santorini is amazing and Hector's Cave House is a great place to stay. Giannis was a wonderful host and available by phone at any time. I wish I had been able to meet him in person to say Thank You for allowing us to enjoy your wonderful house. I would/am recommending this to any of my friends staying in Santorini.
Giannis was very proactive in contacting me early & arranged transportation from the airport to his place. His friend opened up the place for us as he was in Athens. The reviewers were right that the place is even more gorgeous than the pictures. Words can't begin to describe the view & the ambiance. The house is 5 mins walking distance to the bus station which you can take to Fira & the other parts of the island. It is fully equipped with everything you would need to cook a full breakfast, bonus is the Illy coffee machine which he provided come capsules that makes an amazing cuppa. He constantly stayed in touched with us & recommended some nice restaurants & places to go. Also emailed us the map of Oia. He provided a cot for our 3 yr old too. We were supposed to meet up in Athens after but the rain was too heavy, it was unfortunate. We would definitely stay here again.
I am Giannis, 34 years old and I grew up in Athens.
After studying and working abroad (UK and Switzerland) for 5 years,I decided to come back in Greece and work for a family business.
In 1998 my parents visited Santorini Island and they fell in love with Oia village where they bought that picturesque cave house…
Since then all about my summer vacations is to lay back at that terrace and admire the spectacular view.
Traveling is to share…
There is no better way of doing this, other than sharing the experience with other travelers.
Of course I will not lose any chance to discover unique destinations like Santorini around the world…
