The Space

Due to demand, we only respond to fully verified guests who provide a clear profile photo, full name, age, name of current employer and/or school, and descriptive purpose of visit. Thank you for your understanding.

Live in in the heart of Little Tokyo and the Arts District with other international travelers and visitors! Clean, convenient, and inexpensive. You won't find a better deal in LA.

Furnished dorm room available for minimum four days, long term stays encouraged. Rooms come with closet, sink, bed, desk, chair and mini fridge. Unfurnished rooms are also available, please see our other listings.

LENGTH OF STAY - We generally accept reservations of 30 days maximum length. If you wish to reserve for a longer period you may discuss that with the apartment manager after you check in for your initial stay.

ROOM DESCRIPTION: Private rooms are for one individual, have locks on doors, and come with a sink. Kitchen, toilet, shower rooms are shared, and professionally cleaned each day. This is a dorm-style atmosphere with great long-term tenants, international travelers, and a friendly on-site manager. Please bring your own towel. This room is similar to the others I have listed, that's why I am just using the same photo. For views of the premises look at the other properties. Thank you for not requesting additional photos of the rooms.

INTERNET: Free wi-fi is available in the living room and dining area, but due to usage it can be VERY slow. If you rely upon wi-fi for work you should arrange your own wireless modem or you can go to starbucks nearby.

PARKING: Free street parking is available nearby (but it goes quickly), otherwise it is $4.00/day at the meters or $4.00/day at the nearby lot. Metered spots are enforced from 6 am - 4 pm and they also cost $4.00 per day.

GETTING THERE: From LAX take the FlyAway bus ($7.00 one way) to Union Station, then take the Gold Line to the Little Tokyo stop. The building is two short blocks away.

WEEKEND ARRIVAL: Please keep in mind that if you are arriving on a Saturday or Sunday the manager may not be there in person to let you in, but there is a lockbox from which you retrieve your keys.

CHECKING IN: Check-in is at 3 pm, Check-out is at 12 noon. Once your reservation is accepted you will receive a phone number for the on-site manager, Alex (different from the one currently listed). Please contact him immediately to discuss check-in details. Please do not wait until the last minute to call. Thank you!

SECURITY DEPOSIT: Because most of our tenants are long-term guests, our security deposit is the equivalent of one month's rent. The deposit is held by Airbnb through your credit card and they will return it to you after your stay. We have had a couple hundred individual reservations with our building and have only had to make deductions for damages a couple of times. If you are a responsible guest, you should have no worries.

ADDITIONAL GUESTS: Additional guests are not allowed without prior notification and prior permission given by the host. Unless agreed to otherwise, any additional guests who stay past 10 pm will be charged an additional $10 per night. If an additional guest is brought without prior permission and paid for in advance, you may lose your security deposit or have your reservation cancelled. Thank you in advance for not bringing overnight guests without prior permission.

Guest Access

Shared bathrooms are cleaned daily, as is the shared kitchen. Laundry facilities are on site. We have a communal, international atmosphere.

Interaction with Guests

Alex is the on-site apartment manager and can answer all of your questions.

  • The host Jefferson Fc responded pretty quickly on my first few emails (just about questions), then responded fast in time to my booking request, 2 nights (less than 24 hrs.).
He even suggested me to try out the place first before possibly renting for a longer term. Thank you Jefferson. His on-site manager, Alex, is super too, very friendly and helpful. Thank you too, Alex. This location is about less than 5-minute walk to
subway Gold Line - East LA bound (Little Toyko stop). For Gold Line - Pasadena bound, it is one stop from Little Toyko to Union Station where you can transfer to many different buses, subways, metrolink & Amtrak. The surrounding is pretty safe and clean. Less than 10-minute walk to Japanese Village Plaze where many eateries are there and a Japanese small supermarket there too.
The residence itself, with this price, is good for budget minders and those just looking for sleep staying. Dorm, basic style and restrm & bathrm clean enough (with this aged building). WiFi is on and off. The room #212 I stayed, is clean enough although the sheets/comfortables/pillows may looked aged. (then, again, please bear in mind, this is a really "budget" place). Thank you Jefferson for providing this budget place. Best wishes to you, your staff and all the travelers out there.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Sogo Residences provided exactly what I needed, a room to sleep in and bathroom to bathe. The barebones nature of the place pushes you out to explore LA, which is what I needed and wanted. I recommend it to anyone who is staying in LA and just needs to rest their head at night.

  • The staff was friendly and helpful. The price was very cheap. The location was good. The building was just old, dirty, and spooky.

  • If at first it seems sketchy, don't be alarmed. It's in a very nice neighbourhood with plenty of shops and restaurants around, and within walking distance (30 minutes) to many interesting sights. The bed was firm and quite comfortable, though it has a thin blanket and sheet with one pillow, so bring extra if you need it. The sink in the room is convenient; the toilets and showers were clean though I did wear shoes, the only problem was that the locks on the doors for those were a bit difficult to use. The room has a closet and lots of drawers to unpack your stuff into, plus a powerful fan for cooling. The wireless internet does work in the rooms (2nd floor) though it dropped once or twice, but it's to be expected if lots of people use it. The ground floor smells a little bit like cats, though it diminished over the 5 days I stayed there, so it was probably temporary. The room is very clean and there were no bugs or anything gross.

The place is within walking distance (about 1-2 minutes walk) from the Little Tokyo station on the Gold Line which leads to Union Station, where you can travel to almost anywhere in LA. Some nice places in the neighbourhood were "Wurstkuche", a beerhall/sausage place; "Caffe Dulce" for sweets and tea; "Nijiya Mart" for convenience/grocery; "Kinokuniya" for books and stationary.

Alex, the manager, was very helpful and kind. I had a very nice conversation with him, and he made me feel welcome.

  • It was really cozy room.
And the thing that I liked here most is that this resident is quite and people respect for others.
But it smells a little bit not good.
Besides that one, I am satisfied with this room.

  • This place was great, but you must be prepared for a few things. One: there are no private bathrooms. All the toilets and showers are shared. Clean for the most part, although I did shower in high heels because I didn't like the idea of sharing a shower with 2 dozen other people. Bring waterproof shoes for the shower and your own towels! Two: bring extra blankets or a space heater. If you stay here during cold winter months it can get very chilly at night! I don't believe there is central heat in the building. The bed in the room has clean linens but there is only one pillow and a thin comforter.

Otherwise this place is really very lovely! You can walk right into Little Tokyo for tea, sushi, or shopping. The building itself is a boarding-house type of establishment, with a big common living room and eat-in kitchen. The common areas are very comfortable and there is always a smell of delicious cooking wafting through the place. The folks who live and visit here are all very friendly, especially the property manager, who was very helpful and welcoming. Overall I was happy to have found this place because it's extremely affordable and safe. I would definitely recommend this place to others who are just passing through town or need to get on their feet in the city.

  • Everything was great. Affordable price, quiet neighbourhood, close to downtown. Room was clean, quite big, as on picture. One stop to Union Staton , very convenient.

  • It's definitely worth the price, although the area seems a little bit sketchy, it turned out to be perfectly safe. Not a big fan of the window and the screen being separated, I got more than 5 mosquito bits for staying three night...rather than that, I will recommend this place for people who is looking for short visiting in LA. Perfect location and nice people.

  • Sogo Residence was a great experience. The room is simple, but has all you need. Bathrooms and showers were always super clean. I did not meet Jay, but he was great with communication. Alex who is on site was great, and also very responsive on email.

The location is easy access to the metro which goes to Union station and from there you can connect to several other lines.

Little tokyo has a lot of cool shops, markets and coffee places. The art district is also 5 min walk.

    Highly recommend Sogo Residence.
