Close your eyes. Imagine a salty breeze and a view of a vineyard from your spot tucked into the back of a rural farm. The stars are brighter, the clams are saltier, and the pace is slower. At night, the stars go on forever and in morning a perfect view of the sun rising over the neighbor’s field.

The space
We've built a tiny room and set it in the back of the field. Sit in stillness and watch the weather or the wildlife on this farm on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Camping with a roof over your head. Pets are welcome!

Background: This shelter started out it's life as an emergency shelter designed to give quick, easy better-than-a-tent space after a natural disaster. It was designed by a local duo, and cut entirely on a CNC router. It flat-packs in a crate for quick shipment in an emergency and can be assembled in a few hours. We've taken this one and decked it out with some locally milled pine siding, a few extra windows, a finished interior, electricity (but not plumbing! that's in the house!), and fully insulated it. It's a unique shelter in a unique spot....... but at the moment, it's ready for you to overnight under the stars.

The Glamper has a full Futon bed (new in 2018), linens provided (blanket in the summer/ down comforter in the winter). There is a folding table and chairs, Keurig coffee maker with coffee, cream and sugar provided. We have a Weber charcoal grill with utensils and lighter fluid provided, you must provide your own charcoal. We have three solar lanterns for your use outside to and from the house at night.

The fire pit comes stocked with firewood/ fire starters and two Adirondack chairs to relax in. We have a hammock under the mimosa tree and a new mini fridge.

There is NO AC at the moment, but plans to upgrade hopefully by Summer 2021. There is an oscillating fan in the summer and in the winter a heater that keeps it nice and cozy!

The bathroom with shower is available in the main house. It is a short 100-foot walk from the house. There are towels in the bathroom for your use and a variety of toiletries if you happen to leave something behind. There is no kitchen access but again there is a mini fridge in the Glamper.

Guest access
The Glamper is set in the back of our 5 acre property. You are welcome to wander around and explore the outdoor space. You will have full access to the full bathroom in our house. You enter through the navy blue door on the left when you come up on our back deck. There is a pocket door between the kitchen and the bathroom that you can close for 100% privacy.

Location

Machipongo, Virginia, United States

Machipongo (an old Indian name) is home to a great Virginia winery, Chatham Vineyards-which is your view from the front deck on the Glamper. The Eastern shore is known for its history, bird watching, beaches and clams and oysters! Cape Charles is a short 20-minute drive south.

A Northerner by birth transplanted on Virginia’s Beautiful Eastern Shore with my amazing husband and daughter. We love the outdoors and exploring new places.
