Traditional countryhouse in Umbria

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Magione, Umbria 06063, Italy

The Space

The Casale is a typical Umbrian farm dating from 1440 and transformed into an elegant country residence where the guests are warmly welcomed in a homely atmosphere. The hotel is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, being part of the medieval estate which has been owned by the same noble family for over 500 years. Ideally situated in the green heart of Umbria, the Casale is located in the hilly surroundings of Montemelino near the Trasimeno lake, just 15 km from the historical town of Perugia and its many attractions. It is an ideal base from which to visit the cities of art in Umbria and Tuscany, such as Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Todi, Cortona, Florence and Siena among many others as well as important cultural events such as the Umbria Jazz Festival, Euro chocolate and other special exhibitions. The casale is comprised of 7 rooms that sleep up to 4 people, and 3 selfcatering studio apartments who can sleep up to five people. All rooms are rented on a b&b basis but it is possible to rent the whole building for events or family and friend reunions, ask for personalized estimates.

We don't have a restaurant but there is a very big choice of wonderful places nearby.
This is a place where time seems to stand still, where the old ways of life are not forgotten and rural charm rules the day; where everyone lives the good life because it is the only one they know. Lazy days are spent walking the vineyards, picnicking under our ancient olive trees or biking the hills. A game of bocce or a swim help pass the hours before a beautiful evening. On occasion and on request a simple bar-b-que with fresh local fare give way to intimate evening gatherings, often under the endless starry sky. In the midst of this peaceful haven sits the Casale della Staffa, a unique country residence that fits snugly into the beautiful and natural surroundings where we insist on relaxation, indulgence, connection to the land and rich social experiences. It is a place away from time that can offer you an unforgettable stay and a chance to regenerate in contact with nature, tradition and tranquillity.

  • Claudia's cottage was a beautiful traditional one you can completely relax yourself in peace. I enjoyed the splendid scenery of vineyard and farm surrounding the cottage. Loved their swimming pool and morning walk to the nature nearby. Their breakfast was wonderful, it's the best! Claudia was very friendly and helped us get to know Umbria and enjoy the area. She was mostly not around the cottage because she also took care of her own vineyard in other location, but she was contactable and her staffs are very nice hosting us. I had a great time in Umbria and her place with Claudia.

  • Il Casale was both God send and heaven. I was looking for a quiet beautiful environment to kick start a big and got what I wished in spades. Beautiful room (with truly great linens), exquisite surroundings, glorious pool. My only disappointment: that because she also attends to the estates vineyards the gracious but also fascinating Claudia was not around as much as usual. In fact all attendance so discreet that one felt in ones own paradise, with breakfast provided. I'm planning to return.

We are an American-Italian couple, that decided to move to Umbria to farm a vineyard, make wine, and run this historical farmhouse, converted in a really pretty B&B by our aunt whose family owns this ancient farm house for more than sixhundred years. Claudia is also a ceramicist and paints beautiful majolica in the Deruta style and Ev is also the curator of an important private art collection in the USA, for which reason he will not be here from time to time. Of course we love wine, history and art but most of all this beautiful land with its people, crafts, traditions and amazing food.
