Hi, I'm Melanie, and I'm excited to welcome you to "The Mug"!

For years I dreamt of hosting guests in some beautiful distant locale - serving scrumptious breakfasts and playing by the sea.
That dream came true in 2020 when I proudly opened the Cracked Mug, a 3-bedroom BnB in the heart of the island village on Monhegan Island, 12 miles out to sea off of Midcoast Maine.

Welcome to Monhegan Island's newest waterview BnB!

The space
The Cracked Mug is a traditional FourSquare cedar-shake home located in the heart of Monhegan village, directly overlooking the sea.
You'll enter the front door to our parlor where we spin vinyl, play games (including our one-of-a-kind Monhopoly), and have a small pottery shop.

The Kitchen is the heart of our home at the Cracked Mug! There's a comfy sitting area looking out a wide bay window on to the harbor, lined with bookshelves and heated with a wood stove.
I love to cook and get a kick from sharing my creations with my guests. One special treat is our Signature Sweet - my Mother's French Coffee Cake. This recipe - a soft sour cream cake with a dark chocolate and cinnamon swirl - goes back more than 6 decades to my Dad's navy days. It's always out, so help yourself to a slice anytime you like.

Upstairs you'll find our guestrooms, each named after one of my sons. Two (the Anthony and the Alexander) have Queen beds, and the other (The Bradley) has 2 Twins. But they're all made up with delicious Eucalyptus bedding (Eucalyptus is the new Egyptian cotton, they say)
Yes, we are BED serious at the Cracked Mug

As is typical for island life, guests share the 1 1/2 baths, plus a gorgeous water view outdoor shower!

You'll have wifi access, but we encourage you to put your devices in your bedroom's lockbox and see what happens when your brain gets to unplug.

The Cracked Mug is right in the heart of Monhegan village, so galleries and shops are mere steps away. We're also around the corner from the famous Novelty, just down the hill from the island brewery, and the Fish House is our backdoor neighbor.

I plan unique trips for adventurous travelers -- think treehouses and 5* cave hotels, truffle hunting and swimming with 25' mantas and you've got the right idea. I have 4 grown sons, living from Nepal to Santa Barbara, and I currently live in an historic home on the canal in Lambertville NJ with my K9 Patrick. I love the outdoors and all things on or near the water! I am a huge Foodie - if it doesn't walk off my plate, I eat it! And I love to read - especially memoirs, travel stories, and history.
