The space

The concept behind Casa Etérea was to create a "theatre to nature" - and the house is actually a liveable art installation.
The large exterior mirrored panels blur the boundaries between the wild and the structured, evoking a deep sense of awe for nature. Inside, the 75-sqm home is a beautiful and intimate space, that was designed without partition walls – making the entire house one large room. From the central living space and bedroom, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors frame vistas of towering cliffs, while opening to connect with a decked patio area and solar-heated pool surrounded by olive and pomegranate trees. The house also features an exposed glass shower with views to a staggering ravine, and an intimate kitchen equipped with ammenities for light cooking. Remote-controlled outdoor PVC shutters were added to provide security and privacy.

A 100% SUSTAINABLE DESIGN:

The off-the-grid home takes advantage of a wide range of sustainable building strategies including: using only solar power, a rainwater harvesting system - and most famously - a UV coating technology on the mirror making it visible to birds while remaining reflective to the human eye. It is the first and only bird-friendly mirrored house in the world. Also the entire foundation of the house was built from volcanic rock hand-collected off the site. Apart from its focus on sustainability and cutting edge design, Casa Etérea has also received international press recognition for its 'regenerative tourism model' as it is a fully community-run project that empowers and employs locally.
Guest access
The house is located on a magnificently beautiful property, and guests can enjoy large, open outdoor spaces. Although the house looks isolated in photographs - you will not be alone on the mountain. There are 6 other family homes nearby, and our friendly neighbours from our close-knit international community will all be looking out for you.
Other things to note
1) Unfortunately, we do not allow pets, in order to protect our designer furniture.
2) Our dedicated bilingual house manager, Selene, will be present during check-in & check-out.
3) The rocky mountain road leading to the house is ONLY accessible via SUV or 4x4 vehicles. We offer all guests a FREE 2-way shuttle service from Soriana Supermarket in San Miguel to Casa Eterea on your days of check-in & check-out. We can also do pick-ups/drop-offs from other locations in San Miguel - but please note that our house managers charge 400 pesos for journeys that do not originate and end at Soriana Supermarket.
4) A supermarket, hospital and cinema is a 10min drive from the house. San Miguel Centro is only 20 minutes away. However, NO restaurants or amenities are accessible by foot. This is the small trade-off for being able to enjoy a home in such remote natural beauty. During our pick-up service, our house manager can make a supermarket stop, for guests to buy groceries and alcohol.
5) The mountain is home to an exceptional biodiversity including hawks, foxes, white-tailed deer and mountain lions. We have a host of activities for guests who want to do more than relax and disconnect. 6) Only 2 guests (from the original reservation) are allowed on the property.
7) Our spacious kitchen has a two-burner gas stove, stove kettle, french press, and all cooking essentials. We also provide drinking water, tea, coffee, cooking oil and seasonings. A full sized refrigerator/ freezer is available to store your groceries. Because the house runs on solar energy, we cannot use the following items: microwave, electric kettle, blenders, hair curling iron or hairdryers.
8) The mountain has a semi-arid desert climate. Hot sun during the day, and cold weather at night. Especially during the winter months (Nov - Feb) nighttime temperatures can be very cold, and warm jackets are essential.
