*We recently removed wifi as an amenity, it is there but the signal is weak and some recent guests have had trouble connecting.
The Surf Shack cabin is the ultimate in Yurt style outdoor living. Sitting on top of an Ocean Front Cliff with unobstructed views of Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Otter Rock & Devils Punch bowl, views do not get better than this. The small, one-room cabin sits on a dead end road and is the most quiet place you will find. A futon bed provides a very comfortable place to lay your head and hear nothing but the ocean. The covered deck provides a beautiful outdoor living space complete with, Adirondack love seat and chairs as well as an indoor/outdoor carpet and comfy outdoor furniture cushions. There are canvas panels on all sides of the covered deck, which can be lowered to protect against wind & rain in the case of any wet weather. The private Ocean View Hot Tub creates an escape from your life in the real world. A gas grill is provided as well as dishes, pots, etc... The bathroom facilities consist of a composting toilet, hot shower and sink. All guests will be provided eco friendly toilet paper, biodegradable soap /shampoo and instructions on operating these off the grid appliances. The large yard also includes a shared/community fire pit and hammock. Two off street parking spaces are also provided.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the fire pit, hammock, hot tub and Otter Rock State Park. There is also a resturant/pub at The Inn at Otter Crest and a Mo's Resturaunt that are an easy walk from The Surf Shack.

Interaction with Guests

Guests will be provided a key location and will check themselves in and out of The Surf Shack. If there is something they need help with, I live nearby and can come over to help. Usually I do not even meet the guests as we try to keep The Surf Shack a private experience.
*Hot tub may be serviced around 9am on check out days.

  • A lovely little shack! The hot tub was fantastic and the views were unbeatable. Quick walk to the beach and a restaurant. Groceries were in the next town, and the cooking set up was rustic, I would recommend bringing supplies if you are a serious cook. Toilet and shower are a little tricky.

  • Heaven! The view can not be beat. The surf shack was perfect for a romantic getaway. The hot tub and shack were clean and efficient. We cannot say enough about the view. The bathroom was stinky, but as to be expected with a compost toliet, it added to the secluded feel! Breathtaking. Simply a once in a lifetime experience. Would highly recommend!

  • The surf shack was a fabulous base to check out the surf at Otter Rock, and very peaceful and quiet. A unique West Coast luxury-camping-romantic getaway! Go into it knowing that you will be cooking outdoors and using a compost toilet, takes a little getting used to, but overall the place was very comfortable and I hope to stay there again some day.

  • This place was perfect! Great view, comfy bed and a responsive host. Will definitely be coming back. The lil shack was very clean, and the outdoor kitchen area was well equipped considering how simple it was. Made dinner in the fire pit and using the lil gas stove, and both worked out great! Great for a private, lovely retreat, especially if you kind of want to go camping, but don't want all the hassle of a tent, gear, etc.

  • This place is all about the stellar amazing location! It is stunning, peaceful, relaxing, romantic....the hot tub, fire pit, outdoor grill, deck, were all wonderful to spend a lot of time outside and really connect with the beautiful surroundings. The indoor space is cute and is a lot like camping. The bedroom is cute and cozy, albeit it had a bit of a moldy smell. We kept the windows opened and this helped. The composting toilet was pretty smelly and I had a very hard time venturing into the bathroom. The host was very responsive and helpful.

  • The Surf Sack was awesome! Dan was great. Super easy to deal with. The spot beautiful right on the cliff over looking the ocean. Short walk to the sand and a hot tub. Simple, comfortable and relaxing. We will be going back.

  • This is an awesome place to stay. Daniel was responsive and helpful, and the view was really outstanding. The hot tub didn't hurt, either. The room was small but clean, but you won't be spending too much time in it; the ocean is the star of the show. It is definitely more of a rustic experience, though, which is cool as long as you're prepared for it — we were, and we had a great time.

  • This place has a fantastic view of the Oregon Coast. I expected rain and clouds, but was pleasantly surprised by the sunshine. I agree with a previous reviewer about bringing an extra blanket. Being perched on a cliff, some wind gusts come through making it a little chilly. Fortunately, there is a Fred Meyer down the road so I was able to stock up on any gear that I didn't have on hand. Everything was as described, but as I said the views were much more incredible in person. Daniel was very responsive and hospitable.

A bit of advice for working the shower -- I found that I had to use the faucet trick everytime. Plus, one needs to wait about 30 seconds to 1 minute for the water heater to turn on. Once that occurred, I had plenty of hot water for a full shower.

  • This was my first experience using airbnb and I couldn't be happier! The surf shack was a great place to retreat to, relax, and escape from reality for a night. The view was incredible and the location was very private. Having the hot tub overlooking the beach and fire pit at night was a huge plus! I would recommend staying here to anyone, it was absolutely amazing!!!! Daniel, the host was also a very nice guy and very helpful!
