Description

The space

Conde Nast named it the Best City in the World. Beautiful San Miguel de Allende, colonial gem in the heart of Mexico. At Casa Lenita, your guestroom offers your own bath,a community terrace with kitchen and dining area, trees and plants, privacy and tranquility. We share the street entrance, but your space is upstairs and separate. Stairs to the azotea living room provide 360 views of the Parroquia and surrounding hills, church domes and gorgeous star-filled night skies.

Terrace Dreaming includes a comfortable queen size bed, tastefully decorated with Guatemalan and Mexican textiles and art by your host. Always plenty of filtered water for your use. Traditional boveda ceiling, computer desk, shelves and closet, lots of windows, you just might never want to leave. But leave you must, if you want to see San Miguel and it's shops, galleries, museums, jardines, cobblestone streets, parades, dancers, musicians, all the things that make this the best destination in colonial Mexico.

This is a safe and lively neighborhood in Colonia Guadalupe, where kids play in the street and everyone greets you with a smile. Recently we were officially designated as The Arts District, and you will find beautiful colorful murals on the walls as you stroll around the streets. If you like, I can book you a full or half day tour of the studios of our artists in this Arts District. I will also find you a workshop or class to fit your needs, be they art, yoga, or meditation. Need a massage, acupuncture, yoga class, or something else? Just let me know and I'll get you the info.

We're a flat 5 to 7 min. walk to both Centro and Fabrica Aurora, 2 min. walk to Via Organica market, restaurant and El Pato art store. The tienda on our corner has produce, and just about anything you need.

My home is smoke-free, pet-free and scent-free; if you have allergies, this is a healthy and perfect environment for you. Sorry, no handicap access.

In addition to your room: The terrace offers an outdoor kitchen. And above all that, the rooftop offers views of the city, a table for dining outdoors, comfortable sofas and wifi, all shaded from the sun and surrounded by plants.

Please try to check-in is before 6 pm. If your flight doesn't allow for that, please let me know in advance and I'll either make arrangements or recommend a hotel for your first overnight.

Guest access

In addition to your room: The shared terrace offers a mini- kitchen with coffee pot and toaster oven, microwave, plus table for dining and internet access. Above all that, the rooftop living room offers views of the city, super sofa and chairs, a dining table, covered from the sun and surrounded by plants. And wi-fi!

Interaction with guests

Sometimes I'm here, sometimes not. House manager is on duty if I'm not. When I am here, interaction with guests only as they wish. Guests have entire second floor, with as much privacy as they desire. As for me personally, I'm usually downstairs in the studio working, so have less time to hang out than those who are on vacation.

The neighborhood

Our neighborhood, Colonia Guadalupe, has been officially designated The Arts District. This means there is a large number of artists living and working here, there are street murals and street festivals happening and changing the face and feeling of the community. And last but not least, there is an art store, an organic market and restaurant, and other necessities like hardware stores, tiendas for any kinds of groceries, and we're close to the galleries and stores in the Fabrica Aurora.

Getting around

Urban bus stops 2 blocks from my house, taxis easy to find. First class bus terminal for other cities in Mexico is about a mile away. From airports, you can come to San Miguel via this terminal, on either ETN or Primera Plus, both luxury buses. Or, you can schedule an airport shuttle with BajioGo, whether you fly into Mexico City, Leon, or Queretaro.
Parking on the street at your own risk.

Other things to note

Please try to check-in before 6 pm. If your flight doesn't allow for that, please let me know in advance and I'll try to make arrangements or recommend a hotel for your first overnight.

House Rules
Check in time is 1PM - 5PM
Check out by 11AM

No smoking, no pets, no children. There might not be a lot of places in San Miguel where you can stop worrying about your allergies to pet dander and cigarette smoke. Your consideration of perfume-free is greatly appreciated. Your little corner of the world here does not include a party house, i.e. hosting your friends here is not permitted. Please keep noise levels to a minimum in the early morning and at night after 10 pm. for the sake of my sanity, other guests and my neighbors. I prefer quiet tenants; artists, writers, filmmakers love it here.

Lena's place was exactly what I was looking for. It's tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood but only a ten minute walk to the main square and even shorter to many great restaurants. The terrace kitchen had great coffee and granola waiting, and the fridge had fresh fruit! I loved sitting out on the terrace early morning, sipping coffee and watching the city come to life, and then again in the evenings with a glass of wine to watch the sun go down. The bedroom and private bathroom are decorated in a true Mexican fashion. The bed was very comfortable, so much so that I found myself sleeping later than my usual 6:00am wake time. Being a single woman I felt perfectly safe venturing out on my own in the day and evening. There's so much to see and do in SMA and Lena's place is in a perfect location to take it all in. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer!

My room was incredibly comfortable and generous. Lena went to great lengths to make sure I had internet. She also took extra special care of me when I became ill--brought me hot nourishing soup and tea. Really above and beyond expectations.

We had a wonderful stay at Lena’s place. She was superb host, very knowledgable and made us feel really at home. The bedroom and house is full of charm and worked very well for us. It is in a great location, walking distance to many things we wanted to do including some great restaurants. We would highly recommend this airbnb to anyone, and already have to several people! Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer! -r&a

was an awesome hostess. She not only greeted us with a glass of wine after we arrived, but also took us out to dinner at the local health food restaurant. Our entire stay was delightful, and you couldn't possibly ask for a better overall experience. Top notch!

Lena User ProfileLena is a superhost.

Artist for many years, expat from Santa Fe, N.M. living full time in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I'm an easy guest and some people say a great host. I love meeting new people from all over the world. I don't love big groups, don't party, non-smoker, no drugs, nice radical grandmotherly cosmic space-explorer artist type. I'm happy to show you my San Miguel if you are new to the scene.
Sagittarian, feminist, flexitarian, borderline Buddhist / spiritual being just being here now, I love galleries, museums, cultural experiences of any kind. I know the art scene in San Miguel and will happily give you a tour of our neighborhood, the newly designated Arts District of Colonia Guadalupe. My rooms are like your own private artist residencies, so come and explore, create, let San Miguel inspire you. "All art, all the time!"
