A homely, stylish and ultra-convenient base for a true taste of London life. A stones throw from the tube, shops and exhibition centre. Walking distance to museums, river and parks, plus loads of great places to eat and drink right on your doorstep.

The Space

This is a bright, modern, warm and secure first floor studio flat with a modern bathroom (with bath and shower), a stylish, contemporary kitchen (containing brand new, top-spec appliances including a dishwasher and a washer-dryer), a reception area and a bright living space with a very comfy king-size wall-bed, a two-seater sofa (not a sofa-bed), DVD player, hi-fi with i-pod connection, freeview and a massive Plasma TV. The walls are adorned with artworks from London-based artists and designers.

The wall-bed is simple to pull down and put away. Being tall and prone to a bad back, I'm very fussy about my bed and mattress and I can assure you this is an extremely comfortable, high quality king-size bed.

We provide plenty of towels and linen for you to use during your stay and there's a good, strong wi-fi connection throughout the flat.

Guest Access

My apartment is self-contained and on the first floor of an immaculately maintained art deco apartment block with the extra security of a porter at the front desk during the day and a video entry phone system. It also benefits from a beautifully kept communal gardens at the rear to relax in or fire up the BBQ. There is also a lift/elevator, handy when you've got heavy cases and shopping.

Interaction with Guests

Me (James), my wife Lara or my Mum Judy will always aim to meet you at the flat with the key when you arrive to welcome you, give you the grand tour and answer your questions. If for any reason this isn't possible we will arrange for the key to be left with the porter or housekeeper. If you'd like one of us to pop round and help you with anything, then we are a phonecall away. There (email hidden) to the flat and the neighbourhood that stays there at all times.

We will not disturb you at all during your stay, unless you need us to - you are here to relax and feel at home! However, I live in London and can be on hand to assist you with the flat or give you advice on places to go whenever you require it.

The Neighborhood

The apartment is in a convenient, west-central location, surrounded by restaurants and a short walk from shops. It offers quick and easy access to central London in 15 mins. The main museums and Hyde Park are very close by. It's also just a few steps away from Earls Court Exhibition Centre.

The local neighbourhood is friendly and sociable, full of restaurants, bars, pubs and shops all on your doorstep. You'll be spoilt for choice for places to eat, drink and shop! Kings Road, Westfield Mall and Kensington High Street are walking distance or a short bus-ride away for all your shopping needs. There's a 24 hour convenience store a couple of steps from the front door and supermarkets/cinemas galore within a 5 - 10 minute radius.

Over the road is The Troubadour, the legendary 1950s coffee house, where Hendrix, Dylan and Clapton used to play. It still holds regular blues/folk music nights. The Pembroke pub on the corner is a friendly, spacious gastropub with great food and lovely beers on tap. I will leave you an up-to-date personal guide to my favourite spots to eat at and visit in London. I'm always happy to offer up recommendations and I have Time Out magazines to give you inspiration.

Earls Court is a busy, active neighbourhood and my flat offers a cosy, safe and ultra-convenient home from home for visitors wanting to base themselves in this lively, sociable and vibrant area. If you like people-watching, eating out or just chilling out at home and want a true taste of the London lifestyle, this is the ideal spot.

Getting around

In terms of location, it couldn't be more convenient for visitors to London. Earls Court tube station is 3 minutes walk round the corner and is in zone 1 on the Piccadilly and District lines. The Piccadilly line provides direct access to Heathrow Airport (about 45 mins), Kings Cross St. Pancras International for the Eurostar (about 30 mins) and London's West End (about 15 mins). The District line gets you to Paddington station in about 15 mins.

The number 430 bus outside takes you to South Kensington in 5 mins to check out the major museums. It's also a 5 minute walk to West Brompton which is a mainline train station for trips to the seaside or by train to Gatwick Airport (there's also a bus from Gatwick Airport direct to Earls Court). To get out of London in a car, it's super quick with easy access to the M3 and M4 motorways, with numerous car hire firms in the vicinity.

Other Things to Note

This is a perfect flat for a single person or a couple. Strict policy of 2 person maximum occupancy.

Check in / out can sometimes be flexible, so please ask if you have any special requests and we'll see what we can arrange.

Pay-you-go UK mobile phone and Oyster travel cards available to borrow on request.

I'm more than happy to answer any questions about the flat and the neighbourhood.

  • James was a great host. He gave us easy to follow directions to the lovely flat from the tube. The area is centrally located and the closest tube station is a short walk. The flat was exactly as expected from the pictures. James keeps the the place very clean, provided a helpful book as well as fresh linens.

  • I had a wonderful stay at James's flat while visiting London for the first time. The space is lovely, clean and comfortable, with lots of natural light--very pleasant to wake up there. I didn't cook beyond morning coffee and toast, but the kitchen is well-equipped. James is a very conscientious host. He met me at the flat for a thorough orientation. He provides a helpful guidebook with recommendations and practical information I hope you won't need such as the nearest hospital (within walking distance).

The location couldn't be better, with everything you need nearby and easy access to transportation around London. The neighborhood is lively around the clock, so it feels perfectly safe to walk home from the tube station late at night. The Picadilly, Circle, and District lines from Earl's Court tube station got me everywhere I wanted to go. A bus stops right outside the flat and goes to the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum, close to Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park.

I strongly recommend James's flat, and I hope to return.

  • We had a great experience staying at James' place in Earls Court. Very convenient location with the tube station, restaurants and shops close by. We had great weather during our stay so we actually walked quite a bit - only 20mins from the V&A.

The apartment was as described and pictured. It was quite warm when we were staying but the flat cooled down quickly when the windows were opened and we used the fan at night.

There was some noise from the street and the pub across the road (mostly on the weekend) but both were blocked out when the windows were closed.

James was great to deal with through the whole process, even kindly waiting when our flight was delayed getting in to London.

All in all a fantastic experience!

  • This was our second time at this flat. Both James and Lara are delightful and they make our stay very comfortable and comforting.
The apartment is lovely and the location is excellent.
    We plan to come back.

  • My husband and I had an excellent stay at James's flat. This was our very first Airbnb experience and it went perfectly! James himself was on vacation but his Mum Judy was there to meet us and give us a very warm welcome to London. The flat is adorable! Very nicely decorated/furnished, and was extremely clean. I also loved how bright and sunny it was, especially in the mornings! Judy had put out fresh flowers, and bottles of milk and water in the fridge -- we felt very much at home! :) The building, too, is gorgeous and immaculately kept, a real jewel!

The location is better than I could have imagined and when we return to London I'd be tempted to stay here again because of it. It's a very lively and safe area with everything you could ever need nearby: tube station, loads of great restaurants (each time we went out to eat in the area we had a great meal), groceries, drug stores, bank, and even a taxi service just outside the entrance. There are direct and fast tube connections to central London and Heathrow Airport. It is on a busy street, yes, but for us this wasn't an issue, as we live in a city and are used to street noise. In fact, for me, it adds to the experience!

Communication with James was great. He answered all of our questions promptly and was in touch with me upon arrival despite being on vacation -- obviously a very dedicated host and we thank him so much for his hospitality!

We had an unforgettable London stay, and I'm sure others who decide to stay at James's flat will have just as great of an experience. Highly recommended!

  • Great apartment, great location! James was very helpful and on time, charming too! We felt right at home, guitar playing and all (the guitar needed some tuning :-)! Everything was as expected and more, clean, and so well located, only a few hundred meters away from the tube, neighborhood has good restaurants and pubs too. Definitely recommended. It also has a beautiful garden downstairs where you can chill away from the noisy street.

  • The flat was precisely as advertised and perfect for my needs. Fully equipped and setup it was my first AirBnB experience but won't be my last.

  • I stayed at James' flat in March, 2014 as I had to go to London for work. I was met by James' Mum, Judy, who showed me around and was absolutely delightful and helpful. The flat was well laid out and was so well equipped for a traveller, with everything you could possibly need including fresh milk and water. Although the flat was really warm, I slept well in the comfortable bed as a fan was provided. I really enjoyed my stay and my only regret was that I did not get to spend much time at the flat in between work and going out! I highly recommend this flat to anyone.

  • My daughter and I stayed five nights in James' flat while I was visiting during her spring break. The location was superb. Earl's Court station was only a few short blocks away so getting around London was very easy, as well as getting to the flat from Heathrow via the tube. I also liked the fact that we had several restaurant options as well as markets available to us within walking distance. The flat was perfectly sized for the two of us, had everything we needed, and was kept up nicely. I felt very safe coming and going. Our contact was James' mother, Judith, who welcomed us warmly, had flowers and a few things in the fridge for us, showed us around and answered any questions we had. She and James were also helpful with helping me figure out transportation to Heathrow at a very early hour on Sunday. The only negative thing I can say is that there is noise from the street at night, a bit of a problem for me but not for my daughter. Thanks for the lovely stay!

About
We are James and Lara - Husband and Wife, We love eating out, tasting local beers and wines, film, travel, family, the arts, we love wild swimming, finding an unspoilt beach or coastline, lazy days with a book and the paper, eggs on toast and cycling and don't mind the odd spot of glamping. We both work a lot, i work in television as a Producer, Lara works on films as a Scenic Painter. We have a flat in Dalston and one in Earls Court on AirBnB where we holiday regularly, when it's free! Kensington and Chelsea is an excellent borough with a lot to offer, we have a list of our favourite suggestions in our visitor's guide. The gardens, architecture and wealth are magnificent and well worth a day or two just wandering round the beautiful streets and squares. Gorgeous pubs and cafes are tucked in the backstreets too.... not usually found by tourists! We have an exciting little Art Space/Gallery/Workshop too in Dalston, if you happen to find yourself over that side of town (which we highly recommend) ask us for details and do pop In! We're also avid travellers. When we're not visiting family and cruising round the outback in Australia we love to explore cities around the world. AirBnB is a great way to meet new people, share our passion for our home and hear more about yours. Look forward to meeting you, James
