Although we are located in quite a remote area (nearest neighbor is about a half mile away) there's no shortage of fun things to do; Hiking on the Appalachian Trail or in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are guest favorites as well as the white water rafting or just hanging out chatting with the other hikers.

Maria Guzman and her husband Curtis Owen started Standing Bear Farm over 20 years ago as a place for Appalachian hikers to rest their weary feet after long days of hiking. They converted hundred year old farm structures into the cabin and bunkhouse and built a free standing tree house using mostly recycled and repurposed materials. Curtis passed away several years ago. Maria keeps their dream alive by continuing to improve the property as a continual mix of artisans, craftspeople, gardeners and others show up and use their various skill sets to transform the Farm into the amazing place it has become. Maria's home is on the property and she is fortunate to be able to meet most of the guests who stay at her farm.
