About this listing
I have a comfortable modern room available in the Corktown neighborhood. Its a private room with a queen size bed and a shared bathroom.
This neighborhood was originally settled by Irish immigrants and is just west of downtown (center of downtown is about a mile from my place). Its a working class neighborhood that has some interesting urban charm.
I love this city and its my goal to have visitors experience and enjoy as many of its assets as possible. I'm always happy to tell you some of the interesting things going on in town. I'm close to every freeway so you can easily get around the region. I'm about a 25 minute drive from the airport. Sadly, we don't have a real good public transportation system, so be prepared for that. If possible, I would recommend bringing a bike because in many ways Detroit is an ideal biking city.
You are welcome to use the kitchen and wifi is available for your laptop. There is AC as well. I guess I should also mention that I don't smoke and I don't allow smoking in the house.
Thank you, Todd!
Todd's place was lovely and he was a great host, he made sure that we felt welcome in his home and gave us some great suggestions for what to do in Detroit! Definitely a positive experience, we'd be happy to stay in Detroit at his place again.
Room is as advertised. Has AC, which was really great given how hot it was in Detroit during my stay. Neighborhood is perfect location: easy walk to area of restaurants / bars; close to downtown and midtown for short car ride or bike ride; neighborhood feels safe, but also has vacant areas and abandoned houses nearby that give you a feel for the struggles that have actually gone on in Detroit.
Todd is very easy-going and welcoming. He is very knowledgeable about Detroit, and happy to engage in conversation about it. He has a great map of the city that he showed me that was very helpful for my actual understanding of the city boundaries and neighborhoods.
Detroit is a fascinating city, and Todd's house is a great place to see it from.
Todd was a wonderful host who immediately gave us information about what we might want to see in Detroit. The house was clean and comfortable, and it was wonderful to have towels and coffee provided!
We didn't see much of Todd on this visit - he and we were very busy - but he did his best to make sure we felt welcome and comfortable in his GORGEOUS home! The room was very comfortable - we slept better than we do at home! It was really a great place to spend a few days.
Todd has a lovely home that felt very inviting and safe. The room is nice and it was easy to share a bathroom with him (he leaves VERY early in the morning). Good location for both exploring downtown-just ten minutes from the Detroit Institute of Art, and 20 minutes from The Henry Ford/Greenfield Village. Would recommend this as a good place to stay while visiting Detroit.
This was a very pleasant stay. I communicated with Todd a “check in” time and he was very communicative and flexible in terms of time. He provided all that was needed for a welcoming stay at a nicely sized bedroom, in a newly renovated cute house, on a good block in Detroit. Every site we wanted to get from the house was 4-8 minutes drive. Overall, a very positive experience.
About the Host, Todd
Not sure what to write here. I'm an urban forester and I love living in the city of Detroit. I also love to travel and meet interesting people and experience new cultures. Airbnb has been a great experience of meeting new and interesting people without ever leaving my house! Come visit me and lets chat about the world.
