Recent Review by Chyna:
What a beautiful and quiet house! This is new construction in a historic district, so it has the character and charm of a home that is much older with the amenities and cleanliness of a brand new property. My only regret is that we were so busy that we didn't get to spend much time in the house. The beds were very comfortable (MUCH better than the typical hotel bed), the kitchen was gorgeous and stocked with water, soda, coffee, hot chocolate, etc, there's a great walk-in closet in the master bedroom plus a large soaking tub in the master bath. The layout was perfect for a family or two couples, as the bedrooms each have their own bathroom and are situated on opposite sides of the house for maximum privacy. We didn't get to use the courtyard, but it is very charming, with a grill and nice deck/patio area. The neighborhood is close to everything - only about five minutes from downtown and 10 or so from Opry Mills, the Grand Ole Opry, etc. It is a transitional area so some of the houses in the neighborhood are run down - it's only a matter of time before they'll be snapped up and restored, but people who aren't used to staying in neighborhoods like this might be caught off guard. That being said, it was very quiet and safe and I had no concerns being there with my family. Rick was very responsive and wonderful to deal with, and you could tell how much he loves this house. He built it himself and only recently moved out, and it has been well-cared for. The decor is very tasteful with plenty of art, comfortable furniture, televisions in the living room and both bedrooms. This was our first AirBnB experience and it couldn't have been better!

We loved this place. We were in town for an event taking place downtown. Compared to the cost of hotels in the area, there is just no way you can pass up a deal like this. The home is beautifully designed and furnished with a gorgeous kitchen. There is a nice TV with at least basic cable in the living room and the Master bedroom. We also had access to wifi. The bedrooms were more than ample for us. We loved the bathroom and big closet off of the master bedroom. (Give the on demand hot water heater a minute to warm up and you'll have lots of nice hot water - you can reflect on the fact that you're using such an energy-efficient system while you wait.) We also took advantage of the washer and dryer. The entire house was clean and very comfortable. Though we never got to meet Rick in person, he was very quick to communicate via text or email. He left Pepsis and water in the fridge for us. The location of the home is very convenient to downtown - you can see the skyline down the street. It only takes a minute or two to be right at the farmers market by the state capitol building (and there's a grocery store on the way). Taxi fares downtown were less than $10 even on a weekend night. If you aren't used to "transitional neighborhoods" you might feel like you've taken a wrong turn once you're near Arthur street, but we felt quite safe in the area around the house. The area in front of the house is well lit and we enjoyed the off-street parking. The neighbor on one side of the house was really nice. Oreo the dog gave us some suspicious barks, but was nothing to worry about. The other structure next door seems to be a boarded up day care... which means there were no loud kids playing outside! There seemed to be a nice couple living in a little house at the back of the courtyard. They were quiet and we never had a chance to interact with them. All in all the experience was excellent and the price was really extraordinary for what you get - proximity to downtown in a beautifully appointed private townhouse in a "transitional" but apparently relatively safe neighborhood. We would love to return and will highly recommend it to others.
Response from Rick: Thanks for the great review...the church on the corner just bought that day care next door to me....so now they own everything in between my house and the church. I'm working with them to get that torn down. And yes....that is Miss Margaret that lives next door..sweetest little grandmother around! She would always make me a meal whenever she had her family together! ..and Oreo wouldn't hurt a thing. The studio out back is rented on Airbnb separately and has its own entrance thru the back patio area. I do love this neighborhood. It is up and coming as you can tell from the 4 new luxury townhouses being built just past the church and the 2 newly finished ones across the street. This is the 3rd house that i have built on this street. I sold the other 2 and lived in this house until July of last year, when i moved into my new house which is only a few blocks away. Once again, I'm glad you enjoyed the home, sorry i missed you!

  • Great experience. House was very nice and Rick was easy to work with. House is a little outside of town but was quick cab ride anywhere. I recommend this rental.

  • We corresponded with Rick by email and text. He was always prompt to respond. The home was almost exactly what we expected - clean, modern, & beautiful interior. The reviews helped tremendously and even being able to see how Rick responded to the few concerns was very reassuring. We felt confident about our choice and it didn't disappoint in the least. The home is spacious and so much more than what we would have gotten in a hotel in the area for the price we paid. The only things we would change are the noise from construction work going on at 3 a.m. one night, (The noise of nearby highway traffic didn't really bother us.) and the unsightly pile of debris next door from what seemed to be the former daycare that was demolished. We had read that it probably would be torn down, but didn't know the remnants would remain there indefinitely.

    Response from Rick:

Thanks Tori. I'm glad you enjoyed the home! The home has the soundproofing insulation so you don't even hear that inside the home. And YES!! The Spring and the economic recovery has lots of activity going on in the neighborhood!! The church finally tore down the old day care just 2 days before your arrival...and they are in the process of removing the debris..It will take a few days! I can't imagine construction going on at 3AM. I'm sure what you heard was the truck coming to pick up the dumpster for the debris removal next door. They normally come in the evenings or the early morning...but not that early. Also on the other side of the house...2 doors down, the house has been completely gutted on the inside and is in the process of being refurbished. That should be complete in the next 2 months!! Progress!!

  • Rick has done a wonderful job on this house. We were absolutely comfortable and enjoyed being near downtown in the exciting city of Nashville. And when we had a problem with one of the showers and had to call Rick, he was over in a couple of minutes and repaired it expertly.

About the neighborhood: I had read the "iffy" reviews and was wondering how we'd like it. We felt secure and had the impression that this transitional part of town is succeeding in its revitalization efforts.

The attractive back patio has the disadvantage of being within hearing distance of the interstate. Since rain prevented us from using the patio anyway, this really didn't matter on this visit.

The code lock on the door is great and was very convenient, as we were three people going in and out at different times. What a good idea!

    Thank you, Rick!

  • Rick was such a wonderful host. He responded immediately anytime I had a question. He makes it super easy to enjoy his beautiful home. The house exceeded all our expectations. The location was perfect. We paid $11 for a cab ride for 6 girls to Broadway. Also located walking distance to a Kroger and Farmers Market. Strongly recommend this beautiful home to anyone staying in Nashville.

  • Rick's place was spotless and very welcoming. It's so convenient to downtown. The local farmers market is just a few minutes away. My husband and I stopped in and picked up fresh produce. We will definitely rent Ricks place again!

  • A great little house with a great host. Would stay again! In a part of town undergoing "gentrification", but as long as you're comfortable with that it is a short walk to great restaurants such as City House and Rolf & Daughters, and easy to get downtown and to other attractions. Perfect for our stay.

  • We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. It was centrally located to Music City, Vanderbilt University, the Farmer's Market and downtown Nashville. Rick was a gracious host and responded to our texts/questions immediately. We came to Nashville for a soccer tournament and it was wonderful to have a quiet home for rest and relaxation. We had no problems with the neighborhood. The neighbors next door were very friendly. Our children played soccer and lacrosse in the open space close to the home. It was nice having a grocery store within walking distance. We would recommend this home and will stay here again. Thank-you!

I know your not coming to Nashville to visit me, but i will do my best to provide a great place to stay while you are in Nashville! I am a single Dad with 2 great kids off to college! I built this home 3 years ago and love living near downtown Nashville. I am an avid walker and most weeks put in 15 to 20 miles just walking from my home to the Historical Germantown area, Bicentennial Mall State Park, Farmers Market, State Capital, Legislative Plaza, TPAC, then on to Lower Broad, 2nd Ave, and Riverfront park where all the honky tonks are located! That total distance is just a little over 2 miles each way. I was in the USAF and Tennessee Air Guard for 13 years where i was a navigator on C-130's. After my military life i became a General Contractor and started my own business. After being in the country for so long i decided to try the city life. I bought a vacant lot in this historical overlay district and loved it. Since then I have built 2 more homes on this street. I do love this up and coming neighborhood. I also love to hike the mountains! I have summed 3 12,000 foot peaks in the Rockies and last summer my son and I summed 14,254 foot Long's Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. I must admit - it kicked my ass ... but wow!... what a view! Leaves no doubt there is a God! I also love to kayak and travel. But the best times are with the kids. We love to play strategy board games..Settlers of Catan, Acquire, and Cashflow. I love Axis and Allies, but its hard to get them to play that! I also play in a Texas holdem Poker League...for points...not for cash! UPDATE: That's my first grandbaby...Walt....Born 19 November 2012!!
