About this listing
My home, AKA The Lily Pad, is a beautiful San Francisco Victorian flat with a terraced garden, period detail and modern amenities. Safe(r), charming Bernal Heights location near the Mission offers the City's best weather combined with access to 101 and 280 freeways, public transportation (BART and MUNI), great restaurants, stores and markets. There is a large sunny park at the end of the block, and Bernal Heights Park is a moderately strenuous walk uphill with stunning City views.
In-unit washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, full bath with soaking tub, wireless internet and telephone line.
This listing is just for the living room with a comfortable queen sofabed, and shared use of common areas (vegetarian cooking only).
**Unfortunately, persons over 170 lbs may NOT find the sofabed comfortable. 9 out of 10 guests had no complaints about it, as you can see by the reviews.** I use a foam topper to make the bed a little bit cushier :)
The living room is next to the front door, with the option of a curtain hanging in the living room doorway for privacy. You will be sharing my home with my pup Lily and me - we offer and expect friendliness. I work from home some days. I am happy to give you some insider tips on enjoying SF and the Bay Area.
This eco-friendly home includes unique wine crate furniture in the kitchen, recycling and compost bins, gas fireplace, CFL & LED lighting and green cleaning products. We even have a compost pile in the backyard that you may use (instructions provided upon request). Terraced garden leads to upper deck with City views.
My dog Lily (a bichon-poodle mix who doesn't shed) will greet you at the door and will happily curl up next to you. She sometimes barks but is so cute that hardly matters, unless you are a light sleeper. You're also right above the garage and will occasionally hear the garage door opening & closing.
1. You will have space to hang clothes in the armoire in the dining room.
2. You are welcome to use the dining table as a desk & leave papers, laptop, etc there.
3. The bathroom is shared with me. I designate a shelf in the medicine cabinet for guests.
Interaction with Guests
I am happy to visit with you over a cup of tea or glass of wine, and will share my knowledge about SF and the greater Bay Area. I generally give guests complete privacy in the living room, and I often retreat to my bedroom during guest visits.
There is something magical about Bernal Heights. The architecture, views, hidden stairways, parks, dogs and friendly neighbors make it a joy!
The neighborhood is easily accessed by BART (to/from the airport and downtown) and SF MUNI bus lines.
No high heels; thanks for protecting my softwood floors.
No parties, but you may bring a friend or relative by if they leave before 10:30 pm.
"Quiet hours" 10pm-9 am
Turn heat/HVAC down to 64 degrees (or off) when leaving for over 30 minutes. Thermostat is in coat closet, bedroom side.
Please try your best to follow basic recycling and (food waste) composting sorting as outlined on signage.
No pets, sorry.
I had a really nice time - Ilana made me feel comfortable and welcome; the place is lovely and Lily (her dog) is an absolute sweetheart. I also really liked the area; Precita Ave is quiet and residential but all the houses have character and the food nearby was great.
Ilana is very nice and warm. She made me feel at home. I did not get to spend much time in the apartment since I was attending a conference;
However I felt at ease there. Ilana was great at interacting when I wanted to
Do so and respectful of my time alone when I needed it.
The neighborhood Us safe and a short walk to public transportation and
The Mission district, Valencia St. Going downtown is a 10-15
Minute ride through Bart.
I would recommend her place and go back.
Ilana was not at home when I stayed at her Apartment. The Treehouse is a very beautiful place situated in a great neighborhood. I really enjoyed staying there.
Illana was great - very friendly and very accommodating. Her apartment is lovely and she'll effectively give you the entire living room to yourself, and very nice/clean bathroom with a lovely backward!!
Lily, her dog, is also awesome.
Ilana was a gracious host. I enjoyed staying in her beautiful and well-appointed apartment.
My flight was delayed by a day and Ilana was very nice in adjusting her schedule to make it work and meet me at her place. I loved the neighborhood - walking distance to great coffee and food!
This was my first experience with Airbnb and really like the site, easy to navigate with helpful information. I was in San Francisco for 2 nights attending a conference and I wanted to be able to park my car. leave it for the weekend and walk to my destination My three selections got narrowed down to one and Illana was very responsive to all my questions about parking, etc. She was even willing to me meet me once I found a parking spot just 2 blocks form her house and drive me to where I needed to be the first night. Her house is located in a very nice neighborhood, and easy to find. After experiencing a somewhat challenging first night on her sofa bed, Ilana graciously offered me her own bed for the second night which I thought was very kind of her.(And she has offered a discount on my next visit to make up for it) I was much looking forward to using the hot tub on Saturday night after a long day of sitting in a conference, but discovered that it was empty and non operational. A minor disappointment. Because I was gone most of the day, I really did not have much time to spend with Ilana but she is a warm and responsive host who wants to make sure you have an enjoyable stay."

About the Host, Ilana
I am a native San Franciscan and am proud to share my home & city with you. I have worked in the environmental field for over 10 years and am active in the local Jewish community. I love going on outdoor adventures in the Bay Area, from hiking to stand-up paddleboarding, or just relaxing with a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
Favorite travel destinations: Israel, Hawaii, Galapagos, Guatemala, snowy mountains. I speak a bit of Hebrew and Spanish.
I think my home reflects my personality- a mix of traditional with eco-chic and modern accents. Some of the art in my home includes etchings by my artist grandfather and a few things I created myself. I have a sweet little dog named Lily who would be happy to cuddle with you if you're renting the sofabed/living room.
I enjoy gardening and get along very well with my condo neighbor upstairs; we share responsibility for the yard.
Feel free to ask me any questions about the Bay Area - I also know a fair amount about traveling around the West Coast.
