Birchgrove is a wonderful friendly suburb making up part of the beautiful Balmain peninsular. It has the warm feel of a village with all the benefits of a vibrant city
Located a mere 15 minute drive from the centre of city, with buses and ferries on the door step, it is a painless (and often beautiful - particularly by ferry) trip to such attractions as the Opera House, the bridge, the magnificent harbour and historic areas such as the Rocks.
Also close by is the stunning Cockatoo Island, with spectacular views, historical buildings and home to the Cockatoo Island Film Festival held in October
The Balmain area itself has plenty to keep you occupied, with a welcoming village atmosphere, a variety of interesting shops, fabulous restaurants, numerous coffee shops, beautiful harbourside parks, quirky 2nd hand markets, pubs with live music and a wonderful ambience

Balmain/ Birchgrove/Rozelle make up a very special neighbourhood, located only 10mins from the CBD by regular buses, but located on a peninsular its like living in a friendly village but with all the amenities of a world class city, the best of both worlds
Getting around is extremely easy, the bus stop is 2 mins walk and provides a regular bus service via the 442 and 441 to central sydney. The ferry is 8 mins walk away and the ferry takes 10 to get to Circular quay (via the Harbour bridge and Opera house)
This is a friendly and relaxed household, we would like you to feel at home and come and go as you please.
Breakfast cereal, bread, tea and coffee are provided in the kitchen and you are also welcome to use the cooking facilities
Smoking is allowed on the outside covered verandah but not in the house
It really was the perfect experience for us. Sue was so accommodating, warm and friendly. The room is gorgeous and we so enjoyed wandering through Birchgrove. Overwhelmingly, we felt welcome in Sue's lovely home. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Sue, you are a gem! Many thanks from Ana and Luca xo
wonderful stay at this beautiful house in Balmain. Sue is a very welcoming host and the room was lovely. Would absolutely recommend it and I'll stay there again if I'm back in Sydney.
My wife and I experienced a great Aussie real life with kind Sue and her daughter.
A fatastic breakfast at the balcony, a sweet sleep and shower!
Sue always made us feel comfort ,even when I lost the key late in the evening and even after checked out she dropped us off at my destination.
We thank you and hope to meet your smile again.
I visited Sydney with my partner and parents, who had never been to Australia before. Sue was a wonderful host who made us feel very welcome. Her home is a gorgeous house in the lovely and quiet part of Birchgrove, yet only a short stroll away from lots of restaurants, shops, bars, etc. The ferry ride into the City is quick, convenient, and simply beautiful. She made us feel at home, and offered us coffee and tea, breakfast, great sightseeing advice (including big binders full of tourist guides, maps, and public transport schedules), and many opportunities to pet her two mischievous bunnies. We would definitely come back next time!
If you are looking for a place and a person, which are not mainstream, Sue, her daughter and her house are definitely the right choice.
Sue has always a smile on her face, and the word "problem" seems to be an unknown word to her. She's got always time for answering questions, help you with any recommendations or sit on the patio for a chat.
Her house is big enough to give you the privacy I like sometimes and provide places (kitchen, living room, patio), where you can "meet" your host. That's practicing the real idea of Airbnb.
To comment on the 8 year old son of another guest: " i love your house Sue, its so creative", I definitely would subscribe to that.
Balmain is a former working-class district with a lot of atmosphere, beautiful houses, many shopping opportunities and the flair of ancient times. Not to mention the daily sightseeing trip by ferry to Circular Quay, with smashing views on Harbour Bridge and the Opera house.
I would not hesitate at all, to return to Sue, when coming to Sydney next time.
Sue, whenever you come to Germany, how about a motorcycle trip? I would more than like to show you around!
We stayed with Sue and her daughters for 3 nights and it was the perfect start to our holiday in Australia. We were welcomed and felt at home right away- it's hard not to in this cute and comfy home. Our highlight was the beautiful terrace and the beautiful ferry ride to Balmain. This is a great place from which to explore Sydney.

Positive, outgoing individual, firmly believe you only get one shot at this wonderful condition called life, so you should grab it with both hands and live it to your max
Proud mum of three gorgeous daughters, 2 at home and one off exploring the world.
Row, swim and walk to keep my body fit, and ride my motorbike, travel, trawl flea markets and hang with family and friends to keep me happy
Have had a variety of exchange students living with us and love the added dimension this brings to family living.
I have a warm and inviting home ...... to quote a friends rather gorgeous 8 year old son " i love your house Sue, its so creative" and sharing it brings me a lot of pleasure.
