Birchgrove is a wonderful friendly suburb making up part of the beautiful Balmain peninsular. It has the warm feel of a village with all the benefits of a vibrant city
Located a mere 15 minute drive from the centre of city, with buses and ferries on the door step, it is a painless (and often beautiful - particularly by ferry) trip to such attractions as the Opera House, the bridge, the magnificent harbour and historic areas such as the Rocks.
Also close by is the stunning Cockatoo Island, with spectacular views, historical buildings and home to the Cockatoo Island Film Festival held in October
The Balmain area itself has plenty to keep you occupied, with a welcoming village atmosphere, a variety of interesting shops, fabulous restaurants, numerous coffee shops, beautiful harbourside parks, quirky 2nd hand markets, pubs with live music and a wonderful ambience
The room we offer is a spacious double bedroom in a characterful double-fronted weatherboard house typical of this lovely suburb.

It was lovely to stay at her amazing house. Nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful people.
We will definitely recommend this nice home.
I visited Sydney last week for a conference and stayed at Sue's lovely home in Balmain for five nights. Sue is such a warm and welcoming host. My room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and furnished very stylishly - as is all of Sue's home, so bright and filled with eclectic objects and furniture very tastefully.
I especially loved the pink flamingos and other the creatures decorating the front garden and the stories behind some of them:)
Location was perfect with many options for public transport, buses and ferry a few minutes walk away. Wonderful cafes in adjoining streets and fantastic opportunities for eating out in the many restaurants on Darling Street, very good Japanese and Spanish food.
Overall a wonderful place to stay which I highly recommend. I would never consider staying in a hotel when I can stay somewhere with real warmth like this. I only discovered the beautiful parklands around the harbour on the morning I left so I hope to return again and spend more time in Sydney.
Thanks Sue! :-) !
It was a lovely three nights stay at sue's place for me and my family. Sue was helpful and prompt in her replies and was always ready willing to help with any questions i had. We love the decoration of her beautiful house and was impressed with the cleaniness of the place. Driving to the place was easy and sue was kind enough to lend us her gps for the whole duration. Free wifi and breakfast was provided. There was plenty of parking slots around the neighbour and plenty of good restaurant near to the house. Overall an excellent experience with sue and i will definitely recommend the place for my friends.
It was an awesome experience at sue's place. Lovely, cosy home that is easily accessible to town.
Sue is very hospitable and willing allowed us to use her kitchen when we wanted to cook.
The only problem we had was finding parking space. There are free but limited parking outside the house. Overall, good experience:)
Sue was a great host. Very friendly and helpful with local information. Her home is very cosy and a great location for going to the city by ferry.
We stayed 3 weeks there and it was absolutely amazing. Sue and her daughter are very friendly, open to talk and are amazing hosts. The place is very beautiful, clean and quiet. The location is perfect (30s to the city bus and 5 min walk to the ferry) and the view is stunning. There are everything you need in the neighborhood (bank, market, coffee, park etc). We really enjoyed our stay there and we recommend this place to anyone who want to have a nice stay in Sydney.
Sue made me feel very welcome! It is a lovely area of Sydney, and very close to city (10 mins on ferry).
