About this listing
Big room in our 1950ies private house at fringe of town. Lawn and high trees provide suburban/country-style feel with 20min walk to CBD. Am happy to share some simple Kiwi life-style with you. Off road parking or bus stop in front of house.
This is one double bedroom in the three bedroomed front part of the house. Next door is a sizeable twin bedroom offered at AirBnB as well. The third room is occupied by my Aromatheraphy clinic / massage room.
Well heated lounge, kitchen and bathroom are shared between people living there at the time.
All guests so far have reported exceptionally good, deep sleeps which I believe come from
the all natural furnishing materials and the chemical-free cleaning (steam, micro fibre, aromatherapy).
With two high quality air beds at hand, each room can be expanded to take three people, so a party of six can comfortably be accommodated.
A simple kiwi-style breakfast is included (toast, jam, butter). Organic, local and seasonal fruit and vegetables can be sourced prior on request. Gluten free and raw food gourmet cooking is offered on request and at cost-price only.
City bicycle trail passes opposite the house (two bicycles available), access to various walkways close by. Stroll to hospital in 15mins.
Filtered water, kettle, cups and hot drinks are available in the lounge. A shelf in the fridge is reserved for my guests.
I myself live in the private back part of the house. I use my own facilities. As mostly there is only one party of guests, they will have the bathroom for themselves.
There is off-road parking for cars in front of the house and another, more secure parking space for bicycles and motorbikes behind the house.
I understand that my guests are all on a holiday of some sort and feel it's their right to choose the interaction how they want it. If they want the help of a local to plan their Invercargill exploration, I am happy to advise, help organize or even bring them to certain places for a small contribution towards my petrol bill (usually 1/4 or less of Taxi cost).
Due to heater going in the lounge, the door is usually shut. I encourage everybody to come in (no need to knock at the door) and spend their computer or other leisure time in the warm lounge as I understand the lounge to be the extension of their room as well as the common room for all guests. All my friends that may drop in occasionally are very open to my guests, yet I may just as easily take my friends to my living quarters, so guests do not have to meet the locals if they don"t want to. I generally only engage in conversations with Guests who start talking to me first, thus respecting their requirements for privacy as well.
With some individual travelers I do end up in often quite deep thoughts and conversations though and we have learned a great many things from each other's experiences.
I reserve myself the right to allow only some guests access to the kitchen. It is well stocked with machinery, pots, pans and tools that are important to me and seem to require people with some cooking / housekeeping experience.
Access to filtered water, water kettle, cups, plates and cutlery is outside the kitchen. One shelf in the fridge is reserved for your food.
I am happy to pick up and drop off from airport, bus terminal or Bluff ferry terminal for a small contribution toward my petrol cost.
Bus to CBD stops in front of house every 30 minutes. 2 Bicycles available - loss or damage will be recovered from your safety deposit.
please eat in Lunge -> no food in bedroom
absolutely no smoking in this house
Thank you Marianne, for making me feel welcome in Invercargill. It was an interesting experience and your house was home away from home.
It was a pleasure to stay with Marianne, in the Kiwi Classic. The environment was comfy and comfortable. We became quick friends over breakfasts and a beautiful dinner. A perfect place to stay on a quick trip to the Southland.
Stayed with marianne 2 nights. She was lovely to talk to and gave me some good recommendations on places to see in town.
The slat bed was comfy. Marianne's suggestion of visiting Demolition World was good. The accomodation was cheap but not to our taste.
Very comfortable accommodations, currently (March 2015) undergoing some renovations. No problems of any kind, good communication from Marianne.
Marianne was very nice to us. She helped us with all sorts of things. The room is very large and there is an option with two beds. The area is a few minutes' drive from the city center.

About the Host, Marianne
Of German origin, I ended up here in New Zealand for the love of nature, hiking and going out on my bike. I love music and dance; Latin and Rock 'n Roll is best. A stereotype "mother hen" I love cooking and catering for the needs of my guests.
My favorite travel destination would be any nature reserve one can hike or bike through, smelling and sensing the character of the particular spot on the globe.
