We are far, far from the crazy Kuta crowds, hawkers, noisy clubs and bars. Great surf, pristine beach, stunning rice field vistas and a wonderful range of eateries nearby, Plus a massage therapist who the staff can arrange for $15 a blissful hour.
Bali is known as the ‘Island of the Gods’. Its South West coastline is peaceful, serene & spiritual. This is where you’ll find our Private Villa, right on the Beach.
Close by is the traditional village of Surabrata. Surabrata means ‘meditation under the sun’.
What we’re not is what we are.
If you’re looking for the bright lights, the bustle and hum of the traffic, all night clubbing, beach hawkers, wi-fi, satelite CNN, boisterous market life, then our beachfront Private Villa is definitely NOT for you.
In fact, it’s opposite in almost every respect.
Where Kuta is chaos, our Beach Retreat is serene.
We’re about 60 kilometres from the Airport. (In Bali traffic through the single-lane mountain road, that’s about 90 minutes - on a good day. But hey, you're not driving, sit back and enjoy the views.)
We're ideal if you’re looking for a taste of the Real Bali. A deserted beach, lush rural surroundings, unspoilt villages, welcoming people, absolute beachfront, on-site Warung (café) which prepares simple snacks and drinks. We do not sell wine or spirits, so if you want to bring some to keep in your fridge, feel free. There is a 15 litre container of drinking water in your Villa.
Beer, soft drink etc are on sale at our Bar. A simple breakfast pack is provided by the staff and the manager arranges to take guest to nearby restaurants for meals. There is an infinity swimming overlooking the peaceful beach. In fact, the village temple is on the site. It is well known as an auspicious location, and has been for a thousand years.
There's good body surfing in front of the Villa and a sweet sand-bar break about 200 metres to the left. But a reasonable walk along the beach, and beyond the point, is a world-class surfing location – Balian. It's perhaps a mile up the beach. Or if you don't want to schlep your boards, about 6 or 7 minutes by car or motor bike with a surfboard side rack and $5 for the taxi. In fact, if you had a motor bike with a surf rack, you could ride there along the beach. Drive further west to Medewi which is reputed to be the longest point break in Bali; a left-hander that rolls gently over black boulders and offers rides of up to 400 meters.
Our Beach is almost always deserted, apart from the occasional fisherman from the traditional fishing villages that are nestled at each end of the long, sandy beach.
Our private villa is one of a small group. It's air-conditioned, has two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a lounge/dining room with kitchenette. When the cool breezes blow, full length windows open the living area up to natural cool.
We can arrange airport pick-up, day trips and taxi services on request. We can arrange a tradition massage, day trips to the mountains, and so on. A full day with a driver (comfortable car and petrol included) is about US$60. Ketut, the driver we use, speaks excellent English and is a safe driver.
Personally, when we come to Bali, we split our holiday. Half the time we stay on Soka Beach recharging, and the other half we stay in Seminyak or somewhere similar. That's the best of both worlds.
So, what are you waiting for? Get away from it all. Enjoy carefree, simple pleasures of the real bali. Sleep in. Take in the view. Read a book. Relax. Doze. Read. Doze. Enjoy a cold Bintang or fresh fruit juice by the pool. It's a real holiday in the heart of the real bali.
Serenity. Peaceful beach. Lush rice fields. Wonderful staff. Unhurried days. A pool that belongs in a movie.
The staff can arrange an inexpensive car and driver or a local taxi.
Go to vimeo and type in the search panel, Alun Bartsch. It should take you to a number of videos. The last one on page two is of some vision our private villa I shot with my phone.
This is the most amazing location, a fantastic isolated volcanic sand beach stretching as far as the eye can see, with a perfect backdrop of mountains and rice and coconut plantations. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves, as the other villas were mostly unoccupied during the low season. The disadvantage was that the restaurant wasn't working and we had to cater for ourselves, but this was only a minor inconvenience - moreover, the staff were happy to drive us down to Balian if we wanted to do out for dinner, where there are some fantastic restaurants. Great location, one of the best beaches we have been on. Great staff. On the whole, we had a wonderful time - including our seven year old daughter who found lots to occupy herself with during the week we were there, even without TV or internet!
The beach is very beautiful and it is certainly very remote. The pool and surrounding are lovely. Unfortunately there were no restaurant facilities on sight and with no transport, we decided to leave earlier than planned. Marian was extremely understanding and has organised a refund for us.
If you want to feel like Robinson Crusoe, than this is your place. Marion's villa is directly located at the beach, you can see the ocean while waking up. The villa is spacious, well equipped and has very comfortable beds. The staff at the villas is incredible friendly, thoughtful and completely engaging. The food their are preparing at the Warung is fresh and delicious. This place is far more beautiful than it appears on the pictures. It is very tranquil, peaceful and indescribable dulcent. You can enjoy long walks on the palm-fringed beach without encountering anyone else, taking a sunbath at the pool or just enjoying the beautiful view on the ocean and listen to the waves. If you really want to leave this wonderful retreat to discover Bali, you should do a tour with Ketut. Enjoy your stay in paradise...
Really enjoyed our stay. Soka Beach is certainly a place of beauty , a tranquil spot to relax and explore.
The staff were lovely , food was tasty and the house clean and comfortable.
Our stay at Marion's villa at Soka Beach, Bali was a lovely way to unwind at the start of our Indonesian holiday. The villa is beautifully appointed with a spectacular view. The beach is kept clean in the immediate vicinity by the groundsman and we enjoyed long relaxing walks along the beach. This truly is the real Bali in a rural environment. It was lovely to wake up to the sounds of roosters crowing and the crashing of waves on the beach. The swimming pool was a delight and spotlessly maintained. The staff were attentive and arranged bike hire for us however we did not want to risk the busy main road and just rode along the beach. If you intend to bike to the next beach be sure to get clear instructions if you don't want to use the main road. There is a back road that one can take however we never actually made it to the next beach but had fun trying. We felt that these adventures led us to see the real Bali and we are thankful for the experience. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, beach towels appeared on the sun lounges when we went swimming, they stayed back late to provide dinner for us on the night we arrived and the meals were freshly prepared, affordable and delicious, enjoyed in the restaurant overlooking a little piece of rural Bali and we could watch as a local farmer tended his cows and chickens. Ketut, Marion's preferred driver was easy to contact by email and was waiting for us at the airport. He was a safe and considerate driver and speaks English well. He has many years experience as a tour guide in Bali. We loved the beautiful gardens surrounding the villas and felt at peace there. There is also an on site security person 24/7 in case of assistance being needed. Marion was always prompt in her replies and arranging her accommodation was smooth and trouble free. We would certainly stay at Soka beach again as it is exactly as described and pictured. Iit is a wonderful rare treat for families before hitting the hurly burly of the tourist traps of Kuta/Seminyac/Legion.
We spent four nights at Soka Beach retreat. It is such a wonderful place. Although we loved the very Balanese architecture, the grounds and pool; the most impressive and for us reason to go back is the people at the resort. Marian and everyone else was so incredibly nice. And on an island that is so full of genuinely friendly people, these were the most fantastic of them all. Thanks for making us feel so at home!
One needs to know that it is a isolated from...well most anything. But we either had a driver pick us up for a day trip or we rented scouters to get to Balian to surf. It felt like a great adventure. I can envision coming back with a group of families to make your own private resort.
To make it short, it is an amazing resort on the Bali Island. It's so peaceful, the people there are really nice and the beach is really for yourself (except 2 or 3 surfers sometimes).
We had a really pleasant time, the bungalow is very comfy. In 3 words : Go for it !
Marian did a great job preparing us for the tranquility and isolation of Soka Beach. It is every bit as beautiful as she said. Unfortunately we went before the new resort owners had things up and running (the pool was broken and the restaurant was closed) but Marian was very understanding when we communicated this with her. The staff that was present was super helpful- even willing to go out and get us dinner which was above and beyond. We will return once the new resort owners have things sorted. Cannot wait! There are not many places left like this...
We have just returned from four beautifully relaxed days in Bali.
I can report that the pool is crystal clear and operational. The gardens are magnificent.
And the warung (café) is also operational where a simple, affordable and tasty menu is on offer. They also have cold Bintangs in the fridge and freshly made fruit juices.
I can send you a vimeo link of some footage of the resort we shot with our phone recently once a booking is confirmed through Airbnb. Sorry Airbnb will not allow vimeo links.
This place is heaven! Our holiday was planned to be quiet and peaceful and boy this place is just that. The beach is deserted and just metres from the villa, powerful waves thunder to shore and palm trees wave in the breeze. The house is delightful - very spacious and well furnished, comfy beds and spotless linen changed each day by friendly staff. It is about a 30 minute walk down the beach to Baliaan Beach surf spot with cute bars and eateries. We paddled and lolled around in the surf there but I would not recommend going right in as it is pretty full on, but divine to go up to your thighs maybe. But watching and listening to the ocean is AMAZING!! and then the sun sets over the sea. WOW. the pool is lovely to have a big dip in though as the frangipani flowers flutter down from the trees and float with you.
