The Space

ENGLISH: Lovely room with private bath, in private home. Kitchen privileges. Various sunny terraces with panoramic views of the beautiful City of Guanajuato. The only off-limits part of the house is the music room which is my workspace.
Eight minutes' walk from the Jardín de la Unión and the Juárez, Principal, and Cervantes Theatres; as well as from the University. Easy access in taxi, microbús and on foot; there is also a private access coming down from the Panorámica.
The room has two single beds which together form a queen-size bed, so that it works for a couple, for two friends travelling together, or for a single individual.
This is a "people's" not a "rich-folks" neighborhood in an Ibero-american city, so you will hear roosters, dogs, and the occasional goat; but it is all quite agreeable.
Please note that to arrive here one must walk: either one walks up or one walks down, but walk one must. If you have any issues with stairs, either up or down, this is not the place for you.

Guanajuato was not built with the automobile in mind ;=)) ... Nevertheless, should you need to bring a car, with a little advance notice my neighbour just above on the Panorámica usually has an extra parking space: cost is 150 pesos / night, 350 / month; anything in between is negotiable. Public parking lots cost 12 to 15 pesos/hour. (I do not recommend finding "free" parking in a tunnel: it may well cost you the repair of your windshield.) If you arrive in a car, you will probably park it and forget about it until you leave: this city is far easier to navigate walking, in public transit, or if necessary in a taxi.

As of 1 January 2013 I am raising my prices for the first time since I started hosting on AIRBNB, mostly because I want to be able to better pay the woman who helps me with housework. People who do this work tend to be very underpaid here, and I would like to do my part to remedy that situation.

Guest Access

I invite all my guests to enjoy the beautiful views from the azotea (roof terrace)! Each room comes with kitchen privileges: I ask only that you take good care of my pots and pans, my knives, and the Talavera dishes.
Really, the only off-limits area is the piano room which is my own work-space.

  • Our experience at Ana's house was wonderful. Ana was a terrific host. Her tour of the city was so helpful and her recommendations were spot on. Her friend, Ramiro, picked us up at the train station and we did a day tour with him. I'd highly recommend this. The house is exactly as the photos looked, so there were no unpleasant surprises. The twin beds were actually much more comfortable than they looked! View from the top is amazing. We didn't get to spend much time out there though due to mostly raining afternoons. Her dogs are the best! I've had some bad dog experiences, and Estrella and Azabacha are two of the best dogs we've ever met. If we return to Guanajuato, we would definitely stay here again. This was a perfect place for a Mother/daughter trip and we left with many wonderful memories. Some highlights: Estudiantinas (well worth the 100 pesos), Ana playing piano at Teatro Juarez and the trip to Dolores and San Miguel w/ Ramiro.

    Response from Ana:

  • What can I say about Ana that has not been
Mentioned before? She's great! After arriving she showed us the places to go for food, coffee, resturants & etc. room is comfortable, and the view from the top is killer! Very close to El Centro. It is a small hike back up to house but not bad. And if you are lucky enough to be in Guanajuato when Ana is having one of her recitals, you are in for a treat. I will definintly stay there again if I'm ever in Guanajuato. Thanks Ana.

  • We loved staying with Ana, it was so relaxed and she was so generous in sharing her knowledge and her house with us. She helped orgained a driver (Ramiro) to pick us at the bus, and when you arrive with no Spanish, this makes it all so easy. The room was very comfortable and her roof top is a great place to just sit and take in Guanajauto. Ana's house is a unique and intriguing piece of architecture and we were grateful for the opportunity to share it for a few days. Thanks Ana.

  • Ana's house is the perfect place to stay in Guanajuato. The beautiful centre is a short walk away (5 minutes going down, 10 minutes coming back up the slopes and stairs). However, the amazing view of the city and the sunset from the terrace more than compensate.

Our room was super clean, spacious, beautifully decorated, quiet and very comfortable.

The real star of the show, however, is Ana. She is the perfect host - generous with her time, approached, intelligent, funny and kind. She gave us excellent tips and advice about Guanajuato's restaurants and sights and went out of her way to help us organise a day trip to San Miguel, book taxis and buses and generally chat with us about her life and music (we were very lucky to get the opportunity to hear her play).

Also worth a mention are her dogs who are super friendly and quiet and added to our experience.

Thanks again for an amazing stay Ana!

  • Ana's place is exceptionally beautiful! I didn't even want to leave it, but the view from her nicely decorated roof terrace onto the colourful city was quite convincing. We had a wonderful time and are very thankful for the warm welcome and the many suggestions to spend our time in Guanajuato.

  • Our stay with Ana was wonderful. She was so accommodating, knowledgable, and helpful. Ana was generous enough to walk us into town and point out some good places to eat. Ana's casa was well-situated in a secure and beautiful location up on the hill. Before we arrived, Ana had made some changes with the hot water heater and was still working out the kinks. We had some trouble getting more than a few minutes of hot water in the mornings for showering. However, the temperature in Guanajuato was warm enough that is wasn't really a problem for us. Ana was kind enough to let us use almost her entire house. My favorite part was the terrace overlooking all of Guanajuato. We loved getting to know Ana and her sweet dogs and cat! We highly recommend this lovely place to stay!
