The absolute highlight of this apartment is the living room. Its spacious, comfortable and beautifully furnished.
The high ceilings give extra dimension to the space.
The woodburner was great once it finally got started ( the wood was a bit moist) and got the apartment snugly warm on rather chilly evenings.
Upstairs, outside the second bedroom is an extra sitting area. This is particularly great if you travel with 4 people, as you can relax in different areas of the house without sitting on top of each other. A shelf with books could provide the holiday.
The house also has a lanai, but as it is situated in the middle for the farn forrest, we did not use it at all.
The bedrooms have both queen beds, which are comfortably enough. Adjacent to each bedroom is a bathroom, one with a shower the other with a tub. The Bathrooms are a bit aged and could do with a lick of paint. The kitchen has all the basics but no dishwasher. Fridge, washer and dryer are working well but equally antiquated. ;) All around a nice place to stay, communication was friendly, our young kids could stay for free- which we appreciated.
We arrived by night and had no idea where we landed, as you dont see anything but forrest- Vulcano is quiet a special village in that respect. Cafe Ono is nearby and serves great food.
The national Park is only minutes drive away, which makes this a great base to explore this region of the Big Island.
Nice little place and pretty well appointed. Nice area, but no real view, full on jungle woods. Woodstove must need to have flu cleaned as it did not draw well and consequently the fire would not burn well at all. No other source of heat. Requested an Axe to make smaller pieces for better burning, it was not delivered.
I however would recommend this unit as it fits the description, is close to Volcanos, dining, and short drive from Hilo. Beautiful when its clear!
The house was very comfortable and close to the Volcanoes. This is important if you wish to view them at night as approaches are dark and as little travelling as possible is preferable.
There is only one small store at Volcano, so you may wish to take supplies with you. Food at the local Thai restaurant is good.
The cottage is very nice and very well equiped. Merlenna was also available for any request.I fuly recomend this place
